Difference between Yeti 2.0 and Big Dipper?

Totally different shape and size. Yeti 2.0 is a bit bigger and a little heavier. But with the size you don't notice the weight. Think there might be a bit more stability and spin time with the Yeti 2.0 too. Big Dipper is quicker though and more nimble. -Chris

How were you able to make the Salmon Fade more consistent?

It's a different anodizer. Not sure. Plus Chinook Wind was a 3 color fade and Salmon Fade was a 2 color fade. -Chris

I'm sorry that so many people are being so inconsiderate about what you put into the company. I'm really happy I can support you guys cause you clearly have so much invested in the company. I have 8 clyws and I hope to see my collection grow! Thanks for all you do Chris!(and Steve and Alec and all!)

Thank you so much for the support! Means a ton! -Chris

I'm actually excited for the Manatee (ordered blue) and I'm glad to hear the company in China who made them are caring and precise about yoyos. Quick Q, how is the Manatee with finger spins?

Keane Usman
Thanks for the support!! In Riccardo's video he did a crazy finger snap to finger spin trick. So I think it's pretty good. -Chris

I don't think people are trying to be offensive or anything when they ask about your business decisions. They're just curious.

I'm a little sensitive sometimes. I'm sorry. This last one that had a few implied statements, and got me fired up. -Chris

What material are you using for your pixel bearings? I'm guessing it's a traditional stainless steel, but have you considered doing a mixed-material bearing like the MonkeyfingeR revolution bearings? (Maybe someday you could do a release with BAM ceramic! That would really be something special!)

Where did you get the idea to call your new bearings Pixel Bearings?

There are literally 8 faces that makes it a centering bearing. To me it looked Pixelated ... Like an 8 bit video game. So that's what I wanted to call it and Geigle liked the idea. -Chris

What do you mean by your office being stocked? Do you have yo-yos you sell from there? I'll be visiting Edmonton this summer, I'd be interested in buying one from you, if you're okay with that.

Yes I have lots to sell from our office. Definitely down with you coming down! I'll email you back soon with more details :) -Chris

Does the Manatee have a ceramic Konkave or a steel Konkave?

Steel concave centering bearing. -Chris

Do you ever plan on selling through returntopshop? It would be really nice if there were a way for Canadians to buy your Canadian return tops from a place in Canada.

We did sell them some Big Dippers and they are on our list of retailers that we will start working with. My office in Edmonton is stocked if you're ever in the area in Canada. -Chris

I bet if you took some Green Manatees and some Blue Manatees and made a bunch of Half and Halves, they would sell very well. Im having to buy two manatees to build my half and half, but those two colors together is a real stunner! Just a thought. :)

Thanks! Would be a good idea ... But would be copying the Bapezilla by Anti-Yo and I am sure if we did that we'd get people calling us copy cat Bapes. So uhmmmmm. Try trading with a friend next time! -Chris

Why did you choose to make the Manatee in China?

There were a lot of factors as to why we decided to make this change. Here’s a few:
The industry is changing and it's harder to sell higher cost metals. Which means if we want to keep that higher price point we have to make less yoyos. But we want to keep growing …
The cost of manufacturing in USA and Canada is very high. Anodizing alone is about $12-16/yoyo … then when you add on machining, shipping, parts, assembly ... Ack!
Plus a lot of stores want better margins, so to do this we have to decrease our costs and increase production …
We found an amazing shop in China that is small. it’s not a mass produced factory or anything like you see in the news. They are amazing and only have two CNC machines. They pay a lot of attention to detail and their customer service is the best I have ever had. They know yoyos. They understand the market. They follow the industry. They are yoyoers.
I don’t want to work with a factory that just bangs out yoyos and doesn’t care about the industry or the product. I think a lot of people just don't trust me with this decision. It sucks. We’re trying to get our yoyos into the hands of kids who can’t afford our throws.
I’ve heard stories about kids who steal money from their parents so that they can afford a CLYW, because hey think they are gonna get picked on at school for not having one. There is no way we can make lower cost metal in the USA/Canada. One Drop can do it easily, because well they have their own machines, but it’s just not possible for us. Especially in Canada.
We’re still going to keep making yoyos in Canada though, Borealis, Orca, Chief … those will all stay in Canada. Plus maybe a few other new models. But to grow right now we need to try this out. If it doesn’t work then I’ll probably have to shrink the team. Lay off our employees. Get a job. Then return back to small run expensive metals released maybe 2-3 times a year. I don’t know. I don't like the sound of that.
The industry is in a weird spot right now. It is flooded with good stuff. There are so many new companies right now. Expensive stuff is sitting longer than it used to. So we need to adapt.
The Manatee is an incredible throw with amazing quality for one of the best players on the planet and I wanted to be able to make it available to people who previously couldn't afford our throws. You'll find that the Manatee is smoother than our best runs we've ever had. The surface finish rivals our 2009 stuff.
I hope this answers your question, feel free to contact us any time! :)
-Chris
