Were any of the three Big Dipper colors more rare than the others?
Nope!
Hi! I'm thinking of getting my first CLYW throw. What do you recommend on a fairly limited budget? Are there any new maiderade drops coming soon?
BTW, you should come to Philadelphia, we have fairly good cheesesteaks.
If you're on a limited budget, either pick up a Big Dipper or wait for us to drop a bunch of Fools Gold (which will be happening a little later this month). I've been to Philadelphia! The cheesesteaks were pretty good. -Steve
How does Kurti calls his legendary tongue movement while he plays?
Did you know that Michael Kurti had no arms until the age of 7, and learned to do everything with only his tongue? Then his arms finally sprouted and he was just like most other people, but now with the addition of a super powered tongue that, when stuck out of his mouth at the proper moment, can alter and control wind currents and help him move objects. That's why his tricks look so impossible. Because unless your tongue has superpowers...they ARE impossible. -Steve
hey steve i just finished reading the interview that you did with noisey and i must say, it was a very pleasant reading haha, enjoyed it quite a lot :)
Players don't get a signature model until they've built up a following and demand. Dennis is awesome, but he's not there yet. -Steve
I just bought a Big Dipper and a Blizzard! You guys really nailed these designs. Thank you for producing these amazing throws:)
Thanks so much for the support! Glad you like them! :) -Steve
what freestyle was your favorite, Harrison?
Steve, what was your favorite freestyle from harrison?
I don't have a freestyle particular which is my favourite, but I have a few that I really enjoyed both constructing and performing. These freestyles are : my 2015 LVO, 2014 Canadian Nationals, 2014 PNWR and my 2013 worlds prelim. :) -HarrisonI like the one with the tricks. -Steve
Alec if you're recording yourself doing tricks for a nice invisioned video you have in your mind how long does it take you on average to record and set up? Can it be tedious at times readjusting stuff?
I have never actually filmed any videos myself. I always have a friend help me. I will set up the shot exactly how I want it and then pretty much have a friend press record. I usually go out with a vision in mind. Sometime I have stuff jotted down and sometimes I just wing it. I would say for an average 2 minutes video it would take me an hour or two to film and a few hours editing. -Alec
Do you believe in "talent"?
Yes.
Have you thought about 100% selling direct to consumers? Even with hiring an addtl employee I would think it would still be more profitable than taking the margin hit selling to a retailer. The overall volume is still low enough to do it inhouse I would guess.
Chris and I talk about this nearly every. single. day. -Steve
Maybe! We don't have another production run scheduled yet, and we don't pick colors until the parts arrive at the anodizer. -Steve
Hey Zach, you have so many great tricks, how do you choose which to put in a freestyle in a dilemma ?
I put in tricks that fit well with the music or if there is a trick I really want to show off I'll do it. -Zach
Hello Zach , How much did you practice everyday when you was like 17 years old ?
I didn't have any specific practice schedule or anything. Some days I wouldn't yoyo at all and others I'd yoyo for like 3 hours. -Zach
Zip zap rap igloo?
I don't think our anodizer in China can handle it. :( -Steve
Which yoyo/yoyos you've made up until now needed the most prototypes to hit just the nail you wanted to?
I'm guessing it was Yeti, correct me if I'm wrong (If I'm right, please name some/one more just for the sake of my curiousity. Thanks!)
Probably the AC1 for metal which was only 3. Complete redesign then a tweak for weight. Then for plastic the Yeti, which was probably like 15 different materials we tried. Today we rarely have to do more than 1 prototype, my design spreadsheet is dialed in and we have enough experience now to predict how a throw will play. Oh ya once it took us 8 months to get the BvM to be smooth. We were working with a machine shop that never made return tops before and it took a while for them to figure out he process. -Chris
My Blizzard should be arriving in the mail today so how about a new Maider Cabin Tutorial for me to learn?..
Not today, but I'll drop one this week! -Steve
With the Big Dipper released, will the Borealis be discontinued?
No. The Big Dipper is not a replacement for the Borealis. -Steve
Are you going to make use of gruntbull's new ripple patterns?
Maybe. Maybe not. Haven't really discussed it yet. -Steve
Hey Steve any news about rhe Igloo, and how are you today?
I'm going well. Sleepy, but well, thank you!Igloo is in production. That's all the news I've got. -Steve
When is next maiderade blizzard release???
We literally *just* had one, so you'll have to give us a minute ha ha. ;) -Steve
Do you miss Jensen and Chuck? Just askin'.
I just got a nice message from Jensen the other day. I need to reply to that. My inbox is a hot mess. Chuck and I never really talked before I started with the Lodge, we didn't talk much after I started working for the Lodge, and we don't talk at all now. We just never really *clicked*. Chris was much closer with both of them, and I know he was really bummed about them leaving, but still happy for them to see them branch out on their own and do something that was more their own style. Ultimately CLYW is trying to grow, and those guys weren't necessarily stoked on the idea, or how Chris and I wanted to do it. Change is weird and difficult and sometimes you don't have everyone with you at the end who was there when you started. But those guys played a huge part in the formative years of CLYW, and I think anyone who loves the brand certainly owes them some gratitude, myself including. -Steve
So I just got back into the yo-yoing scene after 4 years and I was looking for a new throw and thought to myself "fuck it, why not?", and bought a green apple Bonfire, so im super stoked for that. Which bearing does it ship with?
Nice, thanks for the support! The Bonfire ships with a CTX. They tend to be a little on the responsive side when they are new, so plan to spend some good time breaking in the bearing. Some people don't like to wait and will clean the bearing instead. While this will work ok, I've found that just taking the time to break in the bearing through play results in a MUCH smoother bearing that last a lot longer. Up to you, though! -Steve
