whenever i throw my bonfire up, the string starts to wrap around the bearing and the yoyo comes back up... is that a problem with the bearing, response pad, or something else?
I would check the bearing first, that's the most likely culprit. -Steve
We've never made CLYW pogs so....no, I guess? -Steve
what makes a yoyo play 'better' in terms of how a company designed it? obviously factors like axles and bearing, etc. could contribute to vibe, but why are some yoyos cheaper than others? is there a certain design where it would cause vibe?
Seriously, I could talk for at least two hours about this. It's not an easy question. Short answer: The weight distribution on some designs makes them more prone to vibe. In the hands of an incompetent designer, this results in crappy, inconsistent return tops. In the hands of Chris Mikulin, this results in the Puffin 2. HE'S A GENIUS. "Better" is purely a matter of preference, but a good return top is a good return top. As for cheaper, here is a short list of all the factors that contribute to price; design time, designer rates, # of revisions, machine time, material costs, bearing costs, axle cost, pad cost, scrap rate, anodizing, shipping of raw material to machine shop, shipping of raw parts to anodizer, shipping of anodized parts to assembly, assembly time, testing time, b-grade rate, packaging costs, shipping to retailers, retailer markup. For everyone who is thinking about starting up your own return top company: get ready for the pain. -Steve
To add to the CTX that came on the Advance Scout, it's the best CTX that I've ever received with a return top. Mine felt like it was already broken in and was completely unresponsive right out of the box. Was it some kind of special run or something? Also, I love the Advance Scout, y'all are amazing
Glad you like it!Nothing special about these....there is variance in bearing tolerances though, so sometimes you get one that's a little bit "meh" and other times you get one that has magical super powers. -Steve
Chris, what IS the difference in play between the colored yetis and black ones? You said you like how the colored ones play. Does that go for all colors??? Thanks!
The makeup of the plastic itself is a little different so they feel slightly different in the hand and the weight is a little different. The surface also feels different...more like clay than plastic. It's purely a matter of preference, but I think *most* of the team like the colored ones better. I still like the black ones better myself, and I think Ernest does too? -Steve
I'm going to get a PO Box here soon...once I do that, I'll set up something where you can send us a self-addressed, stamped envelope for free CLYW stickers. -Steve
