do all clyws use the same dimension axle? if i wanted to mix and match halves and make frankenstein yoyos

If it doesn't have a long nipple then it is a short metric threaded axle. If it has a nipple then it is a long imperial thread. Don't mix halves with throws that have a nipple and with those that don't. It will destroy your thread. - Chris

Is the first run orca going to have bip bop?

The fancy splash Orcas are coming from a new anodizing shop. We're going to try, but it's going to be interesting to see how a Bip Bop turns out with a new anodizer! -Steve

will you guys do another facebook contest? Any video contests in the works?

Yeah...we plan to start doing big giveaway contests like that probably once a month.
As for video contests, we have a BIG one that we're planning. Practice up. -Steve

Dear god, that Buffalo Bob colorway looks gorgeous! Of the older ones I really like the Musket too. How do you guys come up with the names? Of both - return tops and colorways? Is there a story behind each? For example the Camp Caribou colorway sure sounds like it I think.

Camp Caribou is going to be something fun that we start one day. This was just the start. Most of the time we just try to stick with the wilderness theme and try to think of names that go with them. Or random words that come to mind. Sometimes the name inspires the color. We try to get inspiration from everything around us, from songs, art, anything really. -Chris

So there was a question about the new ano shop earlier. The AC2 was not mentioned in there, does that mean it is with the old one?

Yep..they went to the old ano shop, and are finished and being assembled now. -Steve

are the yoyos from the new anodizers gonna be super different or stay mostly the same??

Super different! We've been wanting to make a big jump forward for a while now, and we just found ourselves an awesome reason to do it. :) -Steve

Let's say there were some b grades made.. Just between me and you... When do you think I would see them

Just unloaded all the b-grades that I have at the moment. We tend to let them accumulate between 2 - 3 models before do a release, to make sure there are enough for sale that everyone can have a shot at one. -Steve

So...that prototype ano that you gave away on facebook... If you had to name it's colorway, what would it be?

Flim Flam Banana Patch. -Steve

Are you being sarcastic when you say not to remove the bearing shields? Also would you mind demonstrating how you could possibly properly clean and lubricate a bearing without removing the shields?

Nope, not being sarcastic at all. The shields are there for a reason, and removing them is the #1 way that yoyo players screw up their bearings. You can very easily buy bearings that are de-shielded by design if you insist on getting in there and fiddling with them, otherwise by removing the shields you are removing what the manufacturer designed and installed specifically to protect the inside of that bearing.
You can use a solvent to clean them. The solvent will break down any teeny tiny bits of whatever that managed to get through those shields into something small enough to get back out when you take the bearing out of the solvent and spin it to clear the solvent.
As for lube, it gets in just fine past the shields without you removing them.
I've been throwing return tops for 20 years and never once have I needed to remove the shields from a bearing. They aren't designed for it, there's no reason to do it, and it's really just going to screw up your bearing. -Steve

Is the bonfire actively used by yeti and Sasquatch to cook food?

No. They use FIRE to cook food. You can't cook food with a return top, silly. -Steve

if anodizing is inconsistent has any companies ever experimented on a new way to make a standard of painting yoyos

calebg6’s Profile Photocaleb maggard
Unfortunately, your options are pretty limited when it comes to coloring aluminum in a way that doesn't affect tolerances, looks good, and lasts a while. Anodizing is pretty much it, and anodizing is just really, really hard to keep consistent from one batch to the next. -Steve

can I get a baped sasquatch?

Only if you buy two and switch halves. Sorry.
As a side note, I find this term "baped" to be pretty hilarious. Anti-Yo released a return top that was half-blue, half-green, and jokingly named it the Bapezilla, after the Japanese clothing brand BAPE which has an insane amount of hype around their every release. At the time, Anti-Yo had a ton of hype around their releases, and named that return top to make fun of this fact.
It went over most people's heads, as a lot of kids had no idea at the time who or what BAPE was, and has now been completely repurposed to mean "a return top that is half blue, half green". Such a strangely specific term to be repurposed! People say "xerox" for every copy machine, and "kleenex" for every tissue, and now "baped" for every return top that is half green, half blue.
Return top players will never stop making me giggle. -Steve

hey steven. i don't mean to come across as rude or ungreatful -infact I'm a huge fan of what you've done- but you've been working with clyw for over a year; what have you done/changed for the company?

Mostly back-end stuff. Helping Chris disperse the workload, brainstorming a lot of ideas for new products and new marketing directions, working on content generation, social media management, and generally being the yin to Chris' yang. (Insert your own jokes here, ha ha)
The amount of stuff that needs to happen on a daily basis to keep a company like CLYW active, not to mention the amount of work that goes into building and growing a brand, is pretty staggering. And it requires a level of organization, even more so with a small team, that is really daunting. Chris and I currently use Google Docs, HipChat, Trello, iMessage, FB Messenger, email, Zoho Invoice, Freshbooks, ShipStation, Iconosquare, Harvest, Wiselytics, and a ton of other software tools to keep in touch with each other, communicate with the team, manage production, figure out our budgeting, analyze our social media, and all of that other hella boring stuff that goes into keeping a small business afloat.
We're tiny, but we are working really, really hard to grow this company into something that's stable, sustainable, and less stressful for us to run. It's easy to get something done, but it's hard to get it done *right*. We're working really hard to get everything done right.
Thanks, seriously, for everyone's support. We work crazy hard to give CLYW to you, our fans. and when we look at a graphic like this one below it really warms our hearts. On the left you'll see that it says "Social Engagement". That's a fancy way of saying that's how many people liked what we posted, shared it, commented on it, talked about it, and interacted with it.
That number means that you, our fans, like what we are doing, and that number means that we owe YOU our absolute best at all times. When we have an amazing week with numbers like that, it means that we owe you even more.
So thanks, everybody. It's all that love that makes it possible for Chris and I to support our families with CLYW. We owe our fans BIG TIME, and we try to pay that back every single day. -Steve

Is the Puffin 2 good for competition? And what other CLYW's are great competition yoyos?

Palli and Andrew Maider seem to think so. ;) Bonfire is also used on stage a lot by the team, as well as the Scout. Orca is going to be an instant favorite. -Steve
