Hey Steve, is there any reason why you unfriended multiple people? Jesse Singh, Adam Schultz, and Tal Mordoch in specific

I'm slowly but surely unfriending a ton of people on Facebook, and just culling my list down to people that I actually hang out with in real life on some kind of a regular basis.
My personal Facebook page has been turning into the customer service hotline for YoYoNews, CLYW, the NYYL, and everything else. And while I'm totally cool with answering questions for people, it's seriously impossible for me to keep track of FB messages for things like product returns or anything that requires some kind of future action. I was starting to miss customer service messages and people were upset and it was getting to be just a bad scene. So I'm trying to push focus back to "contact me through the official channel of whatever the thing is you are asking about" so that I can actually help people better and not leave anyone hanging.
It's really just me trying to keep my customer service obligations in check and not screw anyone over. Sorry if that weirded anyone out...wasn't a "I don't like you" thing to anyone! -Steve

Do you strictly use string centering bearings? Any flats that you're a fan of?

Personally, all I consciously use are CTX or Gold CT. If something has a flat bearing in it already I'll leave it there until I decide that is going to become an everyday throw, and then I'll swap in a CTX. -Steve

Gonna do any splash blizzard or unique engravings?

We already did a Maiderade Blizzard, although we had some problems with that anodizer. Got things sorted out though and there will be a lot more splashes on the next run of Blizzards. -Steve

CLYW x Monkeyfinger? Would love to see the ano job on your stuff!

Nah, not really a good fit. But thanks for the suggestion! -Steve

For CLYW's tenth anniversary you guys should do like a tribute to the peak, like a super limited reproduction run or something,

Oh, we've got a little thing we're working on for the 10th Anniversary. I think you'll dig it. -Steve

Thanks for explainimg all that Steve. I guess i'm just wishing I could work with you guys, Well I just have to get good enough to be sponsored then!

Being sponsored isn't the only path to CLYW. Be amazing. Make a name for yourself. Become an asset to the community. Stand out on the strength of your talent and kindness and ability. We'll see you around. ;) -Steve

My blizzard sleeps for 11 minutes but I haven't times it ever since I dinged it and then sanded it. Will it still sleep for that long?

I know a lot about dinging my return tops but no idea what you did when you "sanded" it. Youch. Good luck! -Steve

You mentioned in your answer to "why the blizzard is more expensive" question that other companies dont have a "huge team" to support. Why is the cost of your team the consumers problem? Maybe trimming down your huge team to pass the savings on to the people who pay to support your company is better

Well, might as well say "Why is the cost of paying your employees the consumers problem?" or "Why is the cost of sponsoring contests the consumers problem?" or "Why is the cost of anodizing the consumers problem?" or any other basic expense of running a return top company.
The team is a HUGE part of what makes CLYW great. If you don't want to support our team, then that means you don't want to support our company. And if you don't want to support our company, we completely understand and hope you'll enjoy some of the many, many other options on the market that might be more in your price range. I've been throwing the YoYofficer Shift lately, which is a great budget bi-metal, and the YoYofficer folks are great people. Sorry to lose you as a customer. -Steve

So is that something new that petr has a new sig of his? Or could it be Ricardo's new throw?

It's a little something something. -Steve

What do you think bout scammers in the bst page or forum? Lets say if scammers win world. Will your respect them and forgive what they have done?

No one good enough to win Worlds would ever be stupid enough to scam people. It's basically a one-way ticket to getting drummed out of the community. -Steve

How are you doing? I hope you're doing awesome!

I'm doing well! Getting ready to leave for Toronto tonight for Canada Nats. :) -Steve

I think my question was kind of vague too, i meant design with someone as more of a code 2 project? That way you get lots of crowd input and you get a clyw with the qualities that people really like, sort of a combo of all things clyw

Oh, crowd-sourcing design? Nah, not really interested in that. It's fun from a community standpoint, but the end result tends to be a little mediocre. When you try to cram in everything that people like, you end up with something that is just an average of everything, and it usually doesn't have a distinct personality of its own. We prefer to design return tops that each their their own style and flavor...we aren't trying to make return tops for *everyone*, we're trying to make return tops with a wide enough range of personalities that everyone can find one they like. Does that make sense? Sort of a hard thing to explain. -Steve

Would you guys ever considering working on designing a yoyo with a "random" player? Like I know Chris is actually a genius when it comes to designs but it would be awesome anyways

I TOTALLY mis-read this question earlier and gave an answer that made no sense. Sorry about that! I thought you were asking about us designing a return top FOR a random player, not WITH one. My apologies.
You're asking if we would work with someone else to design one of our return tops? We aren't explicitly against the idea, but there would have to be a good reason for it. When we collaborate with people, there needs to be some larger, interesting, compelling reason for it. And it needs to be of equal benefit to both parties. So...it could happen, but it would have to be a pretty special set of circumstances. -Steve

Is Riccardo getting a signature return top? If so what stage is it in? Same question for Yuuki.

Yes he is! I've seen the first draft of the design and it looks super fun. I think people are really going to dig this!
Haven't seen any renders of Yuuki's sig yet, not sure if Chris is to that point yet. -Steve

Not to be rude, but isn't the Blizzard pretty expensive at $165 if the yoyo is being produced in China to try and lower costs? What's keeping you guys from selling this at the same price as say, the IYoyo Steel or YYF Nightmare which are both great bi-metals?

I feel like I have to keep explaining this over and over....Ask.fm really needs a decent search feature!
Here's how it shook out: there were no machine shops in the US or Canada that we could find that could produce this to the quality specs we required at the price that we needed. So, if you REALLY want to pay $250+ for a Blizzard, we could keep searching and possibly make them here. But we didn't want the Blizzard to be over $200, so we went with a really great machine shop in China and they knocked it out of the park and helped us keep the price down.
There's a misconception that "Made in China" equals "it is magically whatever price you wish it to be" ha ha. Not even close to true! Good quality costs money, no matter where you go. Yes, things in China generally cost *less* money, but less ≠ little.
So yeah, making the Blizzard in China really did help keep the costs down. And I realize that other companies sell cheaper bi-metals, but you can't really compare them to us because we're all operating at different levels. YoYoFactory can offer wondering pricing on things because they are buying 10x the amount of them that we are and have a massive distribution chain. Pricing gets WAY better when you order tons and tons of return tops at a time like they do. And iYoYo can offer things for less money because they are making less money off each sale...because they don't have multiple employees to pay and a huge team to support so they can afford to make less profit.
I know it's confusing when you just look at "This bi-metal is $45 more than this one, why?" but there are soooo many variables that affect pricing that where we get these made is really just a tiny piece of the whole puzzle. -Steve

Know anyone that has been using the same exact yoyo for years? One of my personal goals is to give a yoyo to a friend and just watch them enjoy it so much that that yoyo becomes all they throw.

You should talk to Ed Haponik about that. -Steve
