Hey chuck what yoyo(s) do you use for competitions?

I don't separate yoyos for playtime and for competition. How the yoyo feels and how fun it is to use is the most important thing to me. So, whatever I'm playing at that time I'll use for a competition. Using something else might get me a longer spin time or be more forgiving towards mistakes, but it would also effect the style of the trick's execution. Having said that, it's not often that I put a lot of effort into a competition freestyle and I ain't good at it; but I think my 2013 cal states routine was aight.

Best Music On Contest?

Best contest music? That's all relative. Whatever goes with the freestyle you're going for that fits with the pacing and style of your tricks. Also just whatever fancies your ear. Don't play to no one else but your sensibilities. - Charles

What makes a yoyo undersized? What makes a yoyo oversized? Is there some criteria such as if it's over/under this weight/diameter/width it's an over/undersized yoyo?

naah not really, it's all just in comparison. Like compare a Cliff to an Avalanche to a Wooly Marmot(the first). In relation to each other you can just see, 'well this one is bigger than the rest, this one way smaller, and this one in-between!" - Charles

wait does clyw actually stand for caribou lodge yeg wonderment? all the clyw members told me it stood for caribou lodge yoyo works. I have to know!!!

clyw stands for clyw. Back in the day it used to stand for your second option before we found out that that wasn't allowed in our country. - Charles

Which vegetable do you hate the most?

Is that latest run of gnarwhale 2s coming to slusny ?

If they order them, yes! YoYoExpert only released a small part of the run, we set some aside for all of our retailers. -Steve

Nah, the Gnarwhal 2 is actually popular, which is why nobody ever wants to get rid of it. It just doesn't get talked about, because everybody loves it and it doesn't need to be.

What some people consider "hype", we consider "customer feedback". So it helps us a bit if people are talking about it, ha ha. The Gnarwhal 2 is definitely an oddity in our line...sells out fast, no one really talks about it, you don't see them hit the BST that often. Plays great, though, and we love it, so we're gonna keep making them. -Steve

May I ask when the next production of Wooly Marmot 2's will be? Besides that, how would you compare it the the Arctic Circle 2?

See below RE: timing.
I would not compare it to the Arctic Circle 2. They are absolutely nothing alike. The AC2 is a full-size return tops with heavy rim weighting designed around Zach's style of play, while the WM2 is an undersized return top with the weight pushed further in to the center designed around Jensen's style of play. They are both return tops that we make but they play, look, and feel absolutely nothing alike. -Steve

When are the WM2 going to be available?!?!

As soon as they're done!
The #1 question that we get is always "When will XXXX be ready!?". Seriously, that's like 85% of what people ask us. Chris and I have talked about it, and we're working with a developer on a brand new website for CLYW, hopefully to launch in Spring 2015. One of the features on the site will be a full production calendar, so that you can see the production progress of all current models. You can count the days until your favorite is ready, gnash your teeth along with us as multiple production runs pile up at the anodizer, and nervously tick off the hours before they launch at your favorite store.
In the meantime, I'll try to keep answering as best I can here. But yeah....we hear you, and we're working on a better system to keep you informed. :) -Steve

Thoughts on WM2

I think it's a fine return top. My most recent thought about it was "Where that that green one go, the one with all the test engraving from the last Fool's Gold run? I thought it was on the counter but now it's not. Did Maverick move it? Maybe the cats? Where did that thing go?" -Steve

I'm surprised you named the Sasquatch as the most stable throw. I don't know much about yoyo design but my general impression was something with strong rim weight would be most stable, hence I thought the Gnarwal 2/Bonfire would've been most stable. Could you explain further? I'm really curious!

The Sasquatch is majorly rim-weighted. The Gnarwhal was designed to be a scaled-down version of the Sasquatch, although it's since evolved a little but yeah...that same crazy rim weight concentration in the Gnarwhal? Came from the Sasquatch. -Steve

My Jack Rabbit Chief had a lot ton of (Pulse) vibe so i had to return it. I tried everything cause it was so pretty :(

YIKES! Oh man, I'm so sorry about that. Sometimes a bad one gets through...I'm glad our retailer was able to take care of you and I hope this doesn't sour you on trying more of our stuff in the future. Ugh. This bums me out a lot. Email your shipping address to steve at clyw dot ca and I'll send you some stickers or something. -Steve

I personally love it. I think it's hella underrated and one of the longest-spinning return tops in our line. -Steve
