How come no one does simple/old tricks anymore at contests like Eli hops or revolutions or arm grinds etc... Is it because they don't score or everyone has evolved into this new era of yoyoing? Why can't they be more like Jensen's BAC 2014? It adds a little flare and taste to a performance.

Jensen's BAC performance was highly entertaining, and came in last place.
That should pretty much answer your question, I think?

What advice would you give intermediate players to step up their game? Obviously practice, experimentation ect., but what sort of inside information could you share based on your experience throwing, competing, and overall sock purchasing? Dem stripes doe...

That's the thing about being a really serious return top player...there's no "inside information" to be had there. It really is just practice, experimentation, and keeping an open mind. Look for influences and inspiration outside of the return top scene, and try everything twice!

story behind jensen's bac I LOVED IT

It was a sticky, hot day and instead of worrying about hitting his tricks against the weather he decided to just get up and have fun. He didn't have any music so he used someone else's. It was a silly business.

What about the peak makes it "not up to snuff" compared to modern throws? I love mine and can still shred on it just like my other Yoyos

That's probably more because you're awesome. ;)
It's not a bad return top, it's just not as good for modern play as the rest of our line. And it's not the direction we want to move forward with.
