How do the normal Scout and 7075 compare?

Well, the normal Scout is a little more subdued, and prefers spending quiet time alone in the evenings. He's more of a "watching the sunset quietly" kind of guy. The 7075 Scout prefers the company of a friend and a good bottle of wine. -Steve

Hey Steve! This month's run of borealis is coming with free shipping worldwide right? If so is it only for this run or future runs of borealis as well? I really want one but I don't really fancy the current colors & I'm living in asia so shipping is pricey 😅 thanks in advance!

Starting now, all orders from CLYW.ca that are over $100 come with free shipping. Period. -Steve

hey sorry if this has been asked it's been like 6 months since I was last here but what you think the Big Dipper's going to cost?

Around $30. -Steve

Okay so I haven't been checking the clyw ask fm page in a while but now that I do I notice that you get a lot of questions about releases and stuff. I sure you've thought of this but how about putting a section on the clyw site with upcoming releases n stuff related

We don't always have release dates very far in advance, so instead we just have special statuses set up for all the products on our site so that you can see what's coming.
Go here: http://shop.clyw.ca/. If you click on “Filter” you’ll get a drop down menu that let’s you sort our products by different criteria. Here’s what they all mean:
ALL – Shows you everything, but at the top of each product logo there is a label telling you that product’s status.
AVAILABLE – We have some in stock and you can purchase them direct from CLYW.
FEATURED – Products that we have available for direct sale that are featured items. Used for promo.
FOOL’S GOLD – This is our “b-grade” product. Slight vibe or anodizing flaws, sold at a large discount.
IN ASSEMBLY – Currently being assembled, tested, and packaged.
IN PRODUCTION – Currently being machined or anodized.
RETIRED – No longer being made, gone forever.
SOLD OUT – Return tops that are not available right now, and have not yet started production.
We’ll do best to keep everything updated on the site so that you can quickly peek and see what is coming up next. When we have actual release dates we’ll announce them on the blog. -Steve

I am really disappointed in the yoyoing community. It feels like everyone is just trying to get noticed and treat it like a game. Contest can only change so much. These younger kids seriously need to chill on the amount they talk and post on instagram and focus more on yoyoing. Your thoughts?

I've heard people say this at least once a month for 20 years. Remarkably, nothing has changed and every thing is still actively getting better and better all the time. I wouldn't worry about it...in any community you will find the same people. Some who do it for love, some who do it for money. Some who want the glory and recognition, some who just need external validation. Some consider it a calling, some consider it a career.
Enjoy return tops for exactly what they mean to you, and don't worry about what they mean to anyone else...that's their problem. -Steve

convince me, why should I buy your yoyos and not the other brands?

Does this approach work with all the rest of the consumer goods you purchase? Like, do you call Kraft and demand that they explain why you should buy their Mac & Cheese? How does that work out for you?
I mean, I could sit here and give you a long and impassioned speech about why you should buy our return tops but I'm never going to tell you not to buy someone else's. I'm a return top player. I own return tops from every single company currently on the market, and quite a few that are long gone. If you see something you like, and you can afford to purchase it, then get it. You don't need to justify it to anyone but yourself, and you don't need anyone's reasons but your own. If someone has to actively "sell you" on it, then you obviously don't want it much in the first place and you shouldn't buy it. But if it reaches out to you, and speaks to your style and sensibilities, then just buy it, and play with it, and beat it up, and enjoy it.
And never ask a marketing guy for marketing. Sheesh. If I was a lesser fellow I'd have spun you a mile of golden bullshit and left you drooling and dying for the Borealis release this weekend. Might as well ask a wolf if it's hungry, lol.

What's the bimetal mass ratio of the blizzard? Your steel rims don't look very wide or thick compared to the body, and if you're going for the production cost of a bimetal, you should make the most of it.

Thanks for the tip. -Steve

I think one of the best ways to increase how awesome yoyo contests are is to not only get yoyo company sponsors, but also focus more on places like phone companies. Lots of parents go to yoyo events and I'm sure you could raise a lot more money if you target sponsors that could go after parents.

Rest assured, plenty of people have been working on that for a very long time. The problem is that return top contests just don't have a big enough audience to merit big dollar sponsorships. Yet. -Steve

What media do you use when you bead blast your yo-yos? I have some return tops that have a "glossy" finish and they don't grind very well. :c

Depends on the anodizer...every one does something different. -Steve

Is Nate sutter still throwing? He is my cousins friend and I was curious :)

He sure is, although mostly he's busy with life and work these days. -Steve

Does CLYW keep on to older throws, like as an archive or something?

Not really. Chris has one of each model, I believe, but honestly plenty of people have bigger CLYW collections than he does. -Steve

Could you explain the different versions of the Chief?

Buggot’s Profile PhotoLac Phan
We made some in 7075 once. Other than that, there were some that were a little heavier, some that were a little lighter. It was entirely due to variance between machine shops and between runs, but for some reason people have begun obsessively tracking the weights of each individual colorway. We have no idea why, but I have to admit the effort is pretty impressive, ha ha. -Steve

Will the B grade Sasquatch be for sale? And regarding the Gnarwal2 please schedule some to be made :( Looking to expand my CLYW collection. :p

Eventually, yes they will. -Steve

Normally I really don't care about when other yoyo companys than release new yoyos. Except when it is bi-metal. Bi-metals just play soooo good! And now that you guys are planning to make more and more of them, I'm soooo beyond hyped! Yaaay! :D

We're pretty excited about it, too! -Steve

How did a WHOLE RUN of Sasquatches get turned into B-Grades...

We aren't entirely sure, but right now it looks like a problem with the bearing seat. They play fine, but all have mild, low-level vibe. -Steve

I want the Gnarwhal 2. It is in assembly. When will it be ready to be bought?

Sorry, I didn't update the status. Not currently in production or assembly, not scheduled. -Steve

Woah... A whole run of a throw as B grade? That's awful! I really kinda feel sorry for you guys! :'-(

Yeah. We're a little pissed right now. :( -Steve
