Can you show us a cross section of the chief? I'm trying to take measurements of the second inner rim manually, but it would be much easier if I could see the actual original design. If it worked so well for the Chief's distribution, I'd like to do some experimenting of my own.

Your asking for a cross section so that you can copy our design? Bold. -Steve

I have tried close to 70 return tops. My favorites are; YYF SuperNova, WM2 (got 2 now), YYF Delrin Severe, YYF Shutter and OD 54. Do you think I would like the Chief? What would you recommend out of the CLYW line-up?

Johnathon Gray
The Chief is sort of a flagship model for CLYW...it's the return top that really set us on the path we're on now, and it's still Chris' absolute favorite that he's ever designed. So I would definitely say if you don't have one...get one. -Steve

You guys aren't sponsoring pnwr are you guys?

We just got the sponsorship package a little before Christmas...so it's on the list of things to look at and discuss, but we haven't gotten there yet. This is a rough time of year, work wise, so we're trying to wrap up the last bits of 2014 while I'm running out the door for Vegas to run the Las Vegas Open. Crazy! -Steve

im deciding whether or not to get a yeti because i heard it has a reputation for snapping strings and theirs valuables in every room of my abode. should i look into it anyway

I've heard about this reputation, and to test it I've got four Yetis here (one of each color) that were never sanded or polished, and I've been using them for the past month and a half. I haven't snapped a string yet. -Steve

How does the ac2 compare to the summit they seem to have pretty similar shape?

They're both kinda "big and flat", but that's about all they have in common. The Side Effects system makes the Summit play unlike any other CLYW models...IMO, the Summit very much feels like CLYW play with a One Drop shape, if that makes sense? It moves and binds like a CLYW, but throws and feels like a OD.
The AC2 really feels more like a logical progression of the first Arctic Circle, and it's a big, light, fast return top that has a lot of stability but doesn't feel like it. -Steve

Hey Chuck, is the Gnarwal 2 good, because I might pick one up on Friday of this week at YoyoExpert

James_liptak373’s Profile PhotoJames Liptak
Yeah the Gnarwal 2 is a real solid little beast. I have a real picky and selective return top taste, so it's not something that I toy around with much personally, but I recommend anyone to give it a try! fantastic quality. - Charles

charles, what do you think of the AC2?

Great return top! Designed to achieve exactly the characteristics Zach wanted to update the original on. It's not a throw I personally gravitate towards but I would recommend anyone to try it if they could. - Charles

For Charles. Did you practice gymnastics long enough to think it has any influence on your yoyo play: body movement, reflexes, etc.?

Yeah I did do gymnastics for 5 solid years, so I'm sure that it does have an influence in some way. Exactly how though I'll never be able to tell. Sure glad I did it though, it was an awesome time.

Chuck, since your not much if a fan of hardcore V-shaped yoyos, do you like the shape of the Bonfire in your hand? I feel it's a mix of classic rounded yoyos mixed with modern V-shaped competition yoyos. Also what are your thoughts on Asian branded yoyos? I feel there too much and boring.

Yeah I agree, the bonfire is more rounded so it's not too bad in the hand. Still no peak as far as comfort goes, but the play overshadowed the hold for me in this case (and the shape is part of why it plays like that too).
Well I can't speak too much about eastern jojo companies because I don't really pay too much attention to what else goes on in the industry and I also haven't tried that many throws myself. There is a bunch of amazing stuff happening there and then a bunch of stuff I don't really care for (not much different than any other demographic) I'm not really a fan of some the trends I see going on with the shiny flashy aesthetics and the sharp lines in the designs; and as far as play goes some throws are too 'beast' for my personal tastes. And as far as branding goes, it's hard to match the care that Chris puts into the story and the artwork of all the projects... However I absolutely love some of the designs I've tried. The Diffusion is kind of an undeniably great plastic jojo, just excellently executing on all fronts. The Clash Cube is one of my favorite little throws with a real unique personality and feel. really im just a yoyorecreation fan, haha. I should be trying a bigger variety. Oh and then there is that crazy plastic throw where the whole yoyo is a hubstack sorta deal. Pretty neat and fun to toss around.

I owned an AC2. Sooper dooper smooth absolutely no vibe. Ano absolutely gorgeous. Only thing was it was really "grabby". I rechecked the specs and found the gap was a bit smaller than others in your line. I'm this was Zachs preference but did anyone else find it "grabby"?

I've never noticed it being grabby. -Steve

say 30 clones of steve brown throw all 30 clyw yoyoes at the same speed and only do a sleeper, witch would spin the longest

You are just bound and determined to get some kind of quantifiable answer to a completely impossible question, aren't you? Ha ha.
There is no answer to "which return top sleeps the longest". And just because one sleeps longer for me doesn't mean it's gonna sleep longer for you.
I can say that the Sasquatch and Gnarwhal 2 have the highest concentration of rim weight of anything in our line...if you're looking for long spin times, start there. Hope that helps! -Steve

You guys should keep doing what you feel is best in regards to the bearing situation. I believe that return tops should ship with the configuration that the designer envisioned for it, and if people don't like the bearing then they are free to change it. BTW the CTX just feels "right" in a CLYW

Agreed! -Steve

Have you guys tried NSK bearings in any of your throws? Thinking about putting in an order for some and would like to know if you've had any experience with them :)

They're absolutely amazing, and also too expensive for us to put in our return tops as a regular bearing. Although we have talked about using them for special edition stuff in the future. -Steve

i have both a Sasquatch and a summit. I prefer the Sasquatch but kinda want something in between. For example I have a shutter and throw that a lot. Which return top of yours is the most similar to a shutter. Or should i move out of my comfort zone and get something light?

You're probably gonna like Harrison's new return top. -Steve

Will my yoyo be okay if I have snow tires on one side and flowable silicon on the other?

Should be fine, although the response might be a little finicky. -Steve
