I am a busy little panda, and I know about a lot of stuff. -Steve
What is Palli's favourite Puffin 2 colour? And for the left handed thrower you can make the vid fullscreen record it then mirror the recorded video.
Palli says it's Rafmagn! (Photo found on YoYoExpert.com forums)

Chris, any plans to release a responsive return top this year?
Nope, no plans. Doesn't mean it won't happen at some point, but nothing planned. -Steve
Im really love your return tops and they live up to there price but what does make them so expensive
It's expensive to make return tops in small quantities with the specifications and tolerances that we expect. One Drop does great work, and charges us a fair price for it, but it's not a cheap thing to ask a machine shop to do for you. Our anodizing is pretty complicated and we have really high expectations for that, so that costs us more to do as well. Plus we have to ship the parts from the machine shop to the ano shop to the assembly warehouse, then pay someone to assemble and test. $$$
We have a large team of really talented players, and we have to make money somehow to send them around so they can keep on kicking major butt at contests. That's not cheap.
Plus you have the expense of rejected parts (which still cost money but don't make money), payroll for our incredibly tiny staff, video production, packaging, etc. You know those stickers and patches and buttons that everyone begs for and demands we produce and give away for free? Yup, costs money.
Basically, it's just really expensive to run a small return top company if you try and do a good job of it. We love doing it, but it means that in order for us to offer a premium product, we have to charge a premium price. But believe me, we really appreciate that everyone continues to support CLYW. Means a whole lot to us! -Steve

What box will the advanced scout come in and what colors?
It's going to come in the usual brown box, with a custom stamp (image below). The text will be stamped in the color of the return top that's in the box. -Steve
what 3 clyw's do u use the most currently?
Orca, Advance Scout, Yeti. -Steve
What is the Orca and can I get a pic of it?
It's the new signature return top for Harrison Lee. Prototypes have been approved (Harrison used them at the Las Vegas Open!) and production is scheduled.

What do you guys do outside of CLYW business? This question applies to whoever wants to answer
I run YoYoNews.com, bgradeyoyos.com, and manage web stores for a couple of artists that I've been working with for a while. I also run Ohio States, and with André I run Triple Crown and Las Vegas Open. Plus other projects here and there. Plus I'm a stay-at-home father of two (three, soon!). I stay busy, ha ha.
Chris has a full-time day job with KickPoint, a digital marketing firm in Edmonton.

Business-y question, but do the B-Grade YoYo store and CLYWStore ship from the same location? If so, is it possible to have orders from the two ship together?
They do ship from the same location, but accounting is done separately for both so even though I can combine those orders, I can't discount shipping. Sorry. -Steve

Watching tricks in first person tend to mess me up more then they because of the fact im left handed. Do you maybe have any advice how I might be able to improve how I learn tricks in first person view?
Watch them on an iPad, lock the orientation, and then flip it over? -Steve
I just got ahold of 2 yetis and I'm in love. Thank you for being the best
Sweet, glad you like 'em! -Steve
Any tips on tuning a yeti? I've got a black one that hasn't been smooth in ages, miss playing the thing but these days it wobbles like all hell!
Unscrew the axle all the way, flip it around, screw it all the way in to one half, and then screw on the other half. Beyond that, I've got no idea....that's as much as I've ever done. -Steve

What should I get the orca or advanced scout
The Advance Scout is a one-time-only release, while the Orca is going to be in production for a while. -Steve

Should I get a Advanced Scout or a Puffin 2 for my next Return Top?
The Advance Scout is pretty limited, so you're only going to get one shot at it. I'd say go for one of those. -Steve
if I buy a scout... do I have a chance to get one of the ones in the picture (when the scouts were in the snow) and if so... can you write on the box or something "this was in the snow picture on clyw.ca"?
I used Fools Gold for the photos...so those will end up with the team. Sorry. -Steve
Why are you making so little and not making another run
Because it's a great design, but not what Petr wanted. It was just too good (and he won a ton of contests with that design) to let it go, so we compromised with a one-time-only run of them and are calling them the "Advance Scout", since they are coming out just ahead of the regular Scout. -steve

Who coined the term, 'return top'?
This is a great question.
These toys have been called a lot of things, especially in the 1940s/1950s when Duncan Toys owned the trademark on the term "yoyo". I found a patent reference to an "educational top" from 1899, and I know that bandalore and whirligig were both also used really early on. I suspected that "return top" came out of the 40s/50s when Duncan was trying to keep the name "yo-yo" as a proprietary term, but I wasn't sure. So I turned to the best possible source of info on these matters...my friend Hans Van Dan Elzen.
Hans Van Dan Elzen:
"If i was to take a educated guess i would say Duncan Sr would have created it to either fight the yoyo trademark or to protect the yoyo trademark. The lawsuits between Duncan Sr and Flores would have a good written history of this. I'm looking through my file of patents and they are referred to as bandalores, then whirlygigs, gyro toys. First mention of yoyo is 1931, US Patent #1,806,485 by a guy named Alfonso Flores of Guadalupe Mexico. Application date of May 17, 1930. First mention of a yoyo as a "top" is in 1934 in US Patent # 1,949,858
Bam! June 1957. See attached image, first mention of the phrase "Return Top" in the patents."
There you have it! Hans is the best source in the world for information about yoyo related patents and trademarks...if it can be found, he will find it! -Steve
