what kind of aluminum that you guys used in yoyo is it 6061 or 7075? do you have plan to produce 2a yoyo?
We use 6061 aluminum. No plans for 2A return tops...that's just not really our jam. -Steve
Can you arrange these in order from least to most expensive?
Blasting, tumbling, laser-engraving, solid anno, 2 layer anno, acid wash
This is the CLYW Ask.fm page, not "Teach Me How To Start My Own Return Top Company 101". :PC'mon man. If you want to know how much this stuff costs, I suggest you contact a machine shop that does it and ask them for a quote. -STeve
Speaking about the issue with hand testing yo-yos and vibe. Out of the box, my 2 Chiefs are dead smooth on finger grinds but all 3 of my Bonfires have vibe on grinds. They are all smooth on the string. Is the finger grind test done during quality control? It seems it is not.
The finger grind test is done on each and every return top before it is shipped. I'm really sorry that you have a problem with your Bonfires...did you contact the store you bought them from for replacements? -Steve
I get you but they machined by onedrop right? And i will be honest, if i wanted to buy em the price is not a problem but its basiclly the same what ondrop does but different designs
Do you really think that One Drop charges us the same amount per half that they charge themselves? LOL One Drop can afford to sell their return tops cheaper than we can because they own the machines that make them. One Drop does an amazing job and we pay them well for it. -Steve
can I have a free summit
No. But next time you want to glom a free product off someone, here are a few ideas for a better approach:1. Submit a picture of yourself pointing a gun at a watermelon with the caption "Send me free return tops or the melon gets it."2. Take a pic of yourself dressed like a caribou, holding an empty return top case, with a single tear falling down your cheek. 3. Write a haiku or limerick about why we should send you something. I'm not saying any of these are gonna work, especially now that I've laid them out for you, but at the very least they will make the entire process of strangers asking for free products a lot more enjoyable for everyone. -Steve
I recall seeing something a few years ago on Zachs Instagram
it was a few drawings and art work. Does Zach still do those type of things? ( Drawing, other art, ect.)
What's the first yoyo-video your team members ever saw? Mine was http://youtu.be/7kueRrQvUr0 -I accidentally stumbled upon Carlos Braun's 2014 WYYC performance and was hit by nostalgia, because he brought me into this whole thing).
No idea, but that might be a fun blog post for me to put together. Thanks for the suggestion! -Steve
How many space blizzard puffin 2s were made?
20
Are clyw return tops supposed to come DEAD smooth? My puffin 2 came pretty smooth but I tuned it a bit and it got quite a bit smoother.
Every single CLYW return top is hand-tested before it ships out. Sorry if you got one that was less than perfect, but glad to hear that you were able to get it back to perfect. :) -Steve
Steve, just wanted to thank you for all that you've done, and continue to do, for the yoyo and the yoyo community. No question just a thank you!
Thanks, I really appreciate that. :) -Steve
So the ano doesn't get damaged at ALL when you run your fingernail on the return too when it's spinning?
Unless you have eagle talons instead of fingernails....no, it's not going to damage the ano when you do a fingernail test while it's spinning. In 20 years of playing with return tops, I've never once broken the ano by using my fingernail to check the spin. -Steve
If there is ever a CLYW x TMBR collab, call the return top "the great wooden throw"
Thanks for the suggestion. -Steve
so it does not matter if the model is popular and successful? that does not sound like very good business. are you guys afraid of alienating your customers at all? after all you produce a product for your fans, shouldnt they have some kind of say in what is discontinued?
Whoa there buddy...why so hostile? Not sure if you noticed or not, but Chris, Chuck, and myself are relatively clever guys. When I say "we just kinda feel it out" what I mean is that there are tons of different reasons to discontinue something and we consider all of them before making that decision. A model might be discontinued because the design is too difficult to machine and has a high scrap rate, because the player leaves the team, because we have a newer model that plays similarly and there's no need to make it anymore, because it doesn't sell as well as we'd hoped, maybe it just doesn't fit in the line the way we thought it would, or even because we just plain don't like it. There's no specific plan or criteria...there are lots of reasons to discontinue something. So we just feel it out. We take our fans' needs and desires into consideration with each and every decision we make for CLYW but at the end of the day Chris has a pretty distinct vision for the company...and since that vision has built CLYW into what it is now, we're going to stick with Chris' vision. We trust Chris. You should too. :) -Steve
Thanks! We added the captions to this batch of colorway photos because when we post just the pics, the first question we get is "When are these available?" Even if we say when they are available in the caption, people will ignore that and ask anyway. So we're trying something a little different. ;) -Steve
I have got a chief and I am just wondering how different is the bonfire??
Completely different. I mean, they're both round and spinny and do tricks really well, but they look, feel, and perform totally different. The Chief is a little lighter and faster, the Bonfire is slower and more stable. Bonfire is better for horizontal stuff. -Steve
Can you describe each of the clyw throws with one word??
