FG scout?

You know that putting a question mark after something doesn't necessarily make it an actual question, right? -Steve

"There is Hulk Smash, Hulk Smash Fade, Intergalactic Hulk Smash Fade, and the upcoming Hulk Splash Fade" - what is the "upcoming hulk Splash Fade?"

:)

Will I have my pizza shirt before the 9th? would you suggest using it as a contest shirt with green string?

I hope so. The patches were shipped to us on Thursday of last week, so hopefully orders will start shipping on Monday/Tuesday? -Steve

what is your opinion on players starting their own companies with zero experience in yoyo design and do you have any advice for them?

*opens can of worms*
On the one hand, I VERY MUCH come from a punk rock / DIY scene. I absolutely love the idea of people deciding to participate and then finding a way to make it happen for themselves. I've written and published zines (Here Comes Another One and Rocket To Mediocrity were two favorites), I've been in terrible punk rock bands, I've written for small music magazines, and all of those experiences have made me smarter, more organized, more self-sufficient, and more creative. I encourage EVERYONE to get involved in whatever they love and find a way to contribute to it.
Now, the caveat here is that a lot of people get started as fans. And the first things that fans do is make fan art. And in this industry, that means that a lot of companies come out the gate with a body shape that looks like someone else's, packaging that looks like someone else's, ano that looks like someone else's. The amount of general copycat releases out there is just tremendously insane. And since return tops are, by and large, sold to incredibly young consumers who have no concept of intellectual property, who place no value on the exclusivity of other people's creations, and who think that anything you can find on the internet is fair game for you to take and do with as you please, you end up in this weird spot where you are trying to encourage new blood while simultaneously damning them for ripping you off.
So my advice would be this: If you don't have something new to say, then shut up for a while and LISTEN. The best thing that we've ever done for CLYW is shut up and really listen. And that doesn't mean just ask "What color?" on your Facebook page and then make a whole run of return tops in that color...that means asking good, deep questions, and listening to what people say not so that you can just take it literally but so that you can learn to understand what they really want. Your customer always knows the answer but in our experience they don't often know how to give it to you. So you have to be really patient, and really listen.
Have a vision. Have something that is uniquely YOU, and let everything in your brand extend outwards from that.
Good luck! And stay off the brown boxes with stamped art. We've got that business on lockdown and ours look soooooo good that you're only gonna make yourself look silly. OUR BROWN BOX GAME IS STRONG. -Steve

What solid colorway usually sells best? I think it would be fun to plot a graph with all the solid colorways, showing how fast and how many each sold.

I like that idea! Green and Pink solid out first for the Orca. I know the Solid Green has always been in high demand for our return tops, and Pink does really well normally. After that I would say Orange and then Blue. Clear and Black seem to sell the slowest. -Steve

Will the orcas ship with a sticker by chance?

Nope. They all have thank you notes on prints from our Instagram feed. -Steve

Are the orca shipping in order of purchasing? I want mine out to my door soon! I think I buy first one? Love!

Usually all the domestic orders ship first just because they require less processing/packing time. Then internationals. ALL orders will ship out this week no later than Wednesday. -Steve

Hey Chris, I just sent you a Facebook message, where do I email you guys? -Francis

You can email us at info@clyw.ca, or me directly at steve@clyw.ca. -Steve

Steve, do you like the Advance Scout or production Scout more? I absolutely love the Advance Scout and am pretty pumped about the production model. Does it retain that solid, fast, and light feeling to it?

I really like them both! It's like having chocolate and dark chocolate...can't pick a favorite, but they both have their own deal going on. -Steve

please don't tell me the prize for the Ernest grind contest that it was a return top. I would've entered!

You should have entered because it's fun, not because of the prize! -Steve

When you guys move return tops around during production in those cardboard trays, are those trays custom made to carry return tops or are they like reused egg boxes or something?

They're just egg crates. -Steve

What are the benefits to buying an orca over the ac2? Is there anything that the orca achieves that the ac2 doesn't?

They are both return tops, they both spin, and they can both do pretty much all the tricks. It's really just a matter of preference. -Steve

Can a really unwound string cause string tension? How do I fix that kind of string tension?

"String tension" refers to how loosely or tightly wound your string is. A really unwound string has very low string tension. A very tightly wound string has very high string tension. -Steve
