what is the worst damage you've ever done to a return-top ? mine is when i was throwing at school in my classroom of course and all i remember is hearing a snap and it went whizzing straight into a wall about 5 cm away from a window. lucky break huh ? lol.
I've wrecked a few return tops. These big yeti hands of mine are just so clumsy sometimes.

could surface treatment make it seem like there is vibe cause some areas feel vibish while right along the rim doesnt. also there's no vibe in the string whatsoever which makes me think maybe it is the texture of the throw itself? - guy who sent you question about chief vibe.
You realize at this point it's like asking me to describe the taste of the food you're eating, right? There is just absolutely no way I can begin to guess what is going on with an old return top that I can't see in person. Sorry man...wish I could help you more on this one!

Do you guys select normal vs concave bearings based on the design and performance characteristics of a particular return top? Looking at photos on yoyoexpert it looks like the most recent Chiefs came concave where as the current Sasquatch has a normal V (and apparently amazing) V 10 ball bearing.
We've moved away from the CTX bearings not because of performance (they perform great!) but because of customer preference. A lot of our customers seemed to get really upset at the idea of the return top being semi-responsive out of the box and having a "break-in" period. So we switched to something else that we feel doesn't compromise performance, but has a shorter break-in period.

i got a chief a few months ago and its great but i now notice slight vibe.not noticeable unless you grind but im wondering is it just bad luck or are they all like that after a while?
Bad luck, or maybe you bopped it on something or bent the axle? We haven't made any Chiefs in a while so hard to even guess what has happened to that return top that could cause vibe.
