Biggest surprise tonight? At each position?

Joshua Bruce from Schlagle at Qb was a nice surprise. Abbott is going to have a very good year. He us throwing the ball real well. Porter is an athlete. Receivers fought the sun a bit but were steady. I want to watch some of the footage I got.

Did the Lansing girls team have any good players last year? Cause they sucked.

We had Morgan Brommel on our All Star team. She showed very well in the game and the 3 point contest. You need 3 or 4 good players. Turner was the same way. McKenna Mortell probably should have been a player of the year candidate but didn't have anything around her.

Who was all there at workouts tonight?

Schlagle: Derrick Gibbs, Rodney McNeal, Joshua Bruce, Bishop Ward: Evan "Rainbow" Brull, Xavier Tucker, Noah Alexander, Lansing: Krystian Abbott, Christian Porter, Atchison: Tanner Huntington, Bonner Springs: Joshua Adams, Les Wessel, Piper: Colton Beebe, Sean Pahl, Dion Saunders. Stevie Williams who is at Butler CC. Great session! I don't think I missed anyone.

Do you only promote basketball and football?

I do some baseball and we will post some articles for the other sports if it is shared. We did a wrestling meet last year which was fun. There are just not enough hours in the day to cover every single sport. I am looking for guest writers though that would like to use my site to cover other sports.

Of all the seniors last year who do expect to make an immediate impact in college?

Hard question because they all are landing at different levels. So comparing making an impact at a JUCO and even sniffing the field on a D1. I think Potter at South Dakota has a good shot to earn some PT. Will depend on where they are playing Browning at Northern Iowa. If CB I would expect to see him not see much playing time year 1. If RB he could get some carries. Ben Johnson we will see. Hard to just play at the D1 level your first year.

Who will be Wyandotte biggest competitor in the KCKAL?

Washington. That will be a good game. Pretty sure you can pencil that game is as a game we will broadcast.

I'm hearing that the center for Washington "Rucker" is down at Coffeyville for FB what you think?

I haven't checked Coffeyville's roster. I know Johnathan Jackson from Bonner will hopefully get a shot there as well so a KCK backfield.

Who was really the best player in kck this past year

Best player and who had the best year are two different conversation. I will speak freely a second to say that not having access to Dimonic McKinzy's numbers hurt him. Getting crushed by 3 excellent teams in district didn't help him either. Browning would have won the award if he played the whole season. It was a tough sell with him missing most of Atchison and then sitting against Mill Valley. Paul Berry was consistent and dominant in 2012.

Will it come down to Khalil Bailey and Xavier Tucker for best wide out this upcoming fall?

Ehh. I like Tucker but I am not sure I am putting him in with Bailey. In the KVL they will both be good performers. We have some things to see up front but I think both have the ability to good things. I would lean to Bailey first though.

What's your thoughts on Isaiah Smith?

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting him. Not sure where he is playing.

I here Tanner is one of those QB that kids look up too over in piper?

3 year starter at Piper. I think highly of him as a young man. Very respectful guy so I can see that.

How will Wyandotte perform if they lost McKinzy?

About the same as any of the schools dealing with the loss of a starting QB. Not very good. They do have weapons however in Moore, Xavier McKinzy and Ford.

What do you think of Demetris Abernathy?

Good size and ability. We had him on our All SHUKC Defensive team. You had to account for him on the offensive line. Wyandotte was stout up front and he was a big reason why. They did a real good job against Schlagle's highly touted line. He will be one to watch at the JUCO level for progression to a D1 school.

Thought on Tucker, Henley and Paulakovich in the WR spots for Bishop Ward?

I will have to see it to believe that Coach Dorian is going to go 3 wide very often or even in the spread. A lot will depend on Barnhart and Brull having the time to get them the ball. I will be curious as well to see if Alexander gets some PT. He did pretty good at 7 on 7 although he struggled off the line against press coverage.

Who is gonna be the best WR this upcoming season? and why?

Khalil Bailey because he has the size, speed and jumping ability to be a high level receiver not just at this level but possibly next. Steve Ford and Antonio Moore are going to put up silly numbers because they are fast and have the best QB in the city.

Believe Schlagle offensive and defensive line will struggle since they lost 2 powerhouses?

You know it is interesting as I just spoke to the new O-Line coach at Schlagle Ian Moses. Ian will be coming to do some lineman sessions with next level over the next few months before the season. He is a former KStater as well and does a good job with the kids. He will be at the golf tournament in August. I told him flat out they are going to struggle. I don't see how you don't losing some of the best lineman I have seen the first few years.

Who susprised you the most at the preps to prospects showcase?

The tackle who just committed to KU. From our area I was a bit taken back by Paul Berry's ability to throw. Keeping in mind I haven't been on field with him in a practice session until then so no real frame of reference. Krystian Abbott threw a good ball as well.

Who you think were the top 5 wide receivers in the KCKAL in the 2012 season?

Mario Garcia, Jowell Daniels, Deon Tripp, Lloyd Stanfield and I would pick this kid from Harmon but I can't think of his name.

Do you expect to see Washington improve? & what you think they record may look like?

Yes record wise. It is yet to be seen if Harrison can take a step forward. There were some big mechanic items I referenced last season that were covered up having a talent like Lloyd Stanfield at receiver. Harrison needs to be an option in the running game. Defensively I think they will be strong. Coach Salsgiver is a excellent coach in the weight room. I bet some kids are taking some big steps forward. 4 wins would be my goal for Washington.

Expect to see Harmon actually win a game this season?

Unfortunately not. I did see Coach Jackson at the Saf-K 5k and he had some of his player with him. He said the Dedric Bradley would be back from an injury last season but Harmon struggled in the classroom last season. This will be a test for Harmon's coaching staff as a lot of young players are going to play this year for them. Like at Sumner is a young core can grow and build up together then you never know. Good numbers out working this summer according to coach.

Which players you think may stand out for Washington?

I think Javeon Williams is a stand out player in the city. I have not heard how much work he has put in this summer as he got nicked up a bit last year. Marvin Bowens is a very active and hard working full back. Shakir Love is another player.

What are your thoughts on Bonner Springs RB Jared Knernscheild?

I haven't gotten to interact much with Jared. I was very high on him last season entering the season. He didn't disappoint to open against Turner as he had one of the best run of the 2012 season. He however got hurt I believe against Piper and suffered production wise because of it. I believe he had surgery on the knee so we will have to see if he is dedicated to getting back. A set back is a setup for a comeback (Eric Thomas). I am cheering for him. It would be a huge shot in the arm for Bonner.

This isn't a question but i want to thank you. Your dedication for this areas sports programs is remarkable and your love towards this city and helping us young athletes on our way to our dreams i appreciate it

Believe me that this feedback helps drive me. Thank you for the kind words.

What are your thoughts on Bonner Springs High School Football program?

I just answered about my thoughts on the season. I will ask it though in a different way because that is what High School's need to be in order to compete. A program. Coach Aslin has done a real good job in creating a infrastructure of player development and building a fan base. The development and growth of players like Kyle Dumler and Jordan Jackson are a testament to this program and the viability of it. So I think highly of the program. KCAL schools need this type of infrastructure.
