Having goals less than a championship is a losers mentality so awesome goal. I don't think it is going to happen but I will be a huge fan if they get the chance to play for it.

Will you ever have workouts for Basketball players?

That is a very good question. I have thought about a invite only pick up game once or twice but the best players in the area are typically playing AAU. The reason I even brought up the idea of football workouts because there is no such thing as AAU football. I would like to introduce a 7 on 7 team soon to KCK. Austin Bennett and I thought we could put together a pretty sick team to travel with from the 14 schools. If we do get not for profit status and donations we will make that happen.

Brief summary of a next level workout?

Next level workouts is about bringing area football players out to work and drive to perfect their craft. We have former D1 players giving instruction and taking the players through a D1 style practice session. It focuses on the little things that there are simply not enough hours in a day for the team to work on. Footwork, route running and skill development. It is a affordable solution to come out and compete to prepare for the season. You get to hang out with me which is pretty cool as well. No Austin this week so we must settle for Justin Richmond and myself.

Brindle gets the nod right now. He has been our coach of the year in the first 2 years we have presented the award. I really like what Aslin and Hopkins are doing.

What's your full (or not so full) break down of Piper's Dion Saunders?

I don't have a full one although he stood out in 7 on 7's. Very small sample size and it was easy to get over shadowed last year behind the seniors Piper had in the secondary last year. He came out to work out with use last week and hopefully again this week. He has good hands and I will make sure we do some one on ones this week since we will have a few CB's at the work out.

What do you think about Harmon's offense?

The only thing I know right now from coach is that Dedric Bradley will be back at QB. Harmon is starting from scratch and a lot of young players will see playing time for the Hawks. My knowledge on these young players will be limited until practice gets started. Coach Jackson did say that he is getting a good turn out for the summer programs so hopefully they get some good numbers this year.

Why do you think so many people see atchison as an underdog?

If KCK suffers from a lack of exposure then Atchison has to be a ton worse. I will help some with that I would guess but it is mainly based on knowledge and location. Depends on the sport as well. Football if you win then you won't be an underdog. Win league and show everyone you are not an underdog.

Piper could be in the top 15 because of their run last year. Tonganoxie should also be in the 20 - 25 range. You could see Mill Valley hang in there but they lost a lot last year. Wyandotte should be in the 15 - 20 range.

Thoughts on atchison high basketball?

Atchison has been a doormat in the KCAL on the boys side the 3 or 4 years I have been watching the league. They did beat Wyandotte in a shoot out last season which is a good step forward. The problem is they lost their most explosive player in Tyson Downing. The girls team will roll through league and I would anticipate a struggle for the boys.

How's the speed at Atchison having housh,gassman,rivers,huntington,enzbrener an Harris ?? Is that a quick bullet?? Are they effective players ??

I will need to watch and see. I am aware of Huntington and Housh. The rest I would need to recheck film or see them work. I hear I have a solid group of Atchison players coming to work out Sunday including Housh so I will get a first hand look then and report back.

Of the quarterbacks at last weeks workout who has the best shot at making all state football?

So we had Brull, Huntington, Abbott, Bruce. Huntington had a strong season with 19 TD's and 6 INT's. I think Abbott can have a big year as well. Brull and Bruce will be senior QB's playing for the first time. I would say Huntington or Abbott would have the best shot. I however think that distinction would take a special effort and some huge numbers.

Why do people underesstimate Tongies lineman they did a great job against Basehor one of the best lines in the KVL last year.

I am being quiet on all offensive and defensive lines unless I see them at workouts. I can't predict that part unless there are a lot of returning starters. haters are fuel so just work hard and prove them wrong. If you do work trust me I will notice.

What's Tongie football have that makes you so high on them?

They have Weeks, Holloway, Levy, Ford coming back. When you bring back your skill position players from a team that went a couple of games deep in the playoffs you have to have some level of optimism. Holloway led the league in rushing. Levy was a contributor and weeks should get more action at TE. Ford brings a year of experience from a playoff run.

What KVL team(s) do you see going the farthest in the play-offs this year? Both 4A & 5A.

Tonganoxie and Piper right now I think will make runs in 4A. 5A we will have 2 teams in for sure between Mill Valley, Washington, Lansing and Schlagle. Assuming the district stays the same. Turner is in a tough district historically. I will say Washington and Lansing for 5A.
