What is the ceiling for the Tonganoxie chieftains this year in football?

A lot of seniors on this squad. You bring back all the major pieces of the team from last season in Ford, Holloway and Levy. Throw in a very hard working Weeks and expectations should be high for Tonganoxie. This team won a playoff game and should have the goal to build on this season. We will need to see what they have up front on both sides of the ball.

What are your predictions of Javeon Williams this year

Over 1000 yards and 10+ TD's is one goal. I told him yesterday All League is another goal. He said all state and I love the goal and if he puts up the numbers I will do my part to making sure he gets the exposure. Pretty sure he ended up with around 700 yards last year but didn't stay on the field. We will know a lot based on whether he is durable enough to stay on the field for the whole season.

What do you expect out of Atchison Redmens defense this year?

I think Housh, Huntington, and Gassman all play both sides of the ball. They lose a good LB is Boos. I am optimistic. I don't know what they have up front but you have some good pieces returning.

how would you rate the girls basketball in this area

Well there is a clear divide between the teams in the KCAL and KVL. It showed up glaringly in the All Star game. Atchison will be the class of the KCAL but the rest of KCK will probably struggle again this season. There is something wrong with getting the ladies out to play basketball. KVL is going to take a step back this season as well as it was a special senior class with Whitledge, Deegan, Johnson, Hoffine, Tripp and others graduated. Bonner will be good again. KCK girls needs help.

do you see Javeon Williams going d1 if do what school

I wouldn't begin to speculate on a school. There are hundreds! I don't know. I was very high on Williams based on what he accomplished last year but I haven't heard a peep about the work he is doing over the summer. We will see once practice starts in a few weeks what type of shape he is in. If he has been in the dungeon putting in work then I anticipate a big season for Williams. If not then we will see. Too quiet of a summer so far.

how many seniors in the KVL do you see going to an NCAA football program after this season? Who and where could they fit in?

Dumler is getting looks from K-State and some smaller programs. I am hopeful that Paul Berry and Jordan Jackson get an opportunity to play for a D1 program and if not at least a D2. Cole Holloway I can see D2 or possibly NAIA along with Levy. I have been at this for a few years now and D1 commits are not as frequent as you would think. If Bailey from Lansing explodes I can see him getting a look as well. First 3 games will tell the story. Vaughn, Parker, Potter, Browning and Johnson are five amongst hundreds of players that have gone D1 since I started covering. It is not easy.

How do you feel about Austin Housh comiting to k-state today?

I saw the tweets about it and obviously am very excited for Austin Housh. I am hitting up the gopowercat site now to see the chatter about it. I will have more to say later.

Who will go to hell?

2pac said once we are already here. A lesson here. Two things you should never argue. Religion and being a democrat.

Is there a D1 possibility?

McKinzy is already committed to McKinzy. I think there is potential for three or four more mid to low level D1 players.

Did you play college ball?

Not minute or a down. It is why rely on the talent around me to teach at the work outs. I know talent and love talking so this all makes for a good hobby. Not to mention I watch more film than anyone in the city.

Which form do I fill out for a player profile?

At www.shukc.com there is a contact form. Put your vitals information in there. Height, weight, 40, bench, squat or any other bit of information you would like included in your spotlight. I will email you back to get a picture. Also include a link to your highlight if you have one.

Do you think Dai Coye Haley will be the best freshmen defensive linemen in the KCAL?

He is the only defensive lineman that is a freshman that I know. He has potential to be special with the conversations I have had with him and his size. I say this more because of the attitude toward putting in work. If he can maintain that attitude for the next few years on the field AND in the classroom he has a lot of potential. We will see if he gets some varisty PT for Atchison.

Would you consider putting on a 7 on 7 tourney?

Austin and I have talked about creating a 7 on 7 AAU type team but not hosting a tourney. That is a good idea though. I don't know that the school 7 on 7 events actually keep score so that could be a bit of fun. Yes we will consider that. Facilities is a huge limiting factor is hosting something like this but perhaps that could be made easier if we are a not for profit.

Which seniors from each kvl school are you looking forward to watch play football?

Turner: Paul Berry and Justin Kos, Bonner: Jordan Jackson and Kyle Dumler, Basehor: Jake Phillips and Cory McCleary, Tongie: Cole Holloway, Levy, Ward: Tucker and Brull, Mill Valley: Don't know yet. Piper: Eikenbary, Pahls, Saunders.

Which Freshman Boys are you looking forward to see play at Basehor-Linwood?

I honestly couldn't tell you any of their names. I do believe the younger brother of Colin and Ryan should be making his way onto the scene soon. I did hear as well that this freshman class is good and we can expect to see some of them making contributions this year.

When's media day, and how do players get invited?

I was just speaking to Vernon about this yesterday. What players get invited is totally up to the coaches. Each of the 14 schools will get an invite and it should be a lot of fun. I know I am looking forward to it. We are looking for a site to hold the event. So make sure you talk to your head coaches and tell them to be on the look out for the email invite.

What question do you hate to answer?

Political questions. There are two things you should never argue about. religion and politics. You can't argue faith, beliefs or democrat.

What is one thing you would change about KCK schools

Hard question because I don't know if we are talking about sports or the schools themselves. I wish I couldrestore pride in the schools and create a fan base that expands into the community. The community aspect of teaching our kids is lacking. It takes a village.

Are you doing a media day for football now that KCK Preps is no more?

Yes we are and I am looking forward to it.

Do you ever wonder what people are asking you these questions

Sometimes depending on the question. Most questions have been good.

How do you educate the athletes about their social media uses in terms of recruiting? seeing more guys lose out on opportunities because what they post

Trust me I talk about it often. My quote is simple. If you would not stand in front of your mother and say it then don't tweet it. College coaches are doing a job and are playing for bread and meat. Especially at the highest levels they are going to explore as much as possible into your character and behavior. During my recruiting conversations I hit it up and in some cases I will reach out to the young men about specific tweets. Getting a scholarship is hard enough without throwing it away on twitter.

What KCAL team do you see becoming a powerhouse in league over the next couple of years

Wyandotte's window will close out a little bit after this season. Washington will have a lot of experience in 2014. Atchison has a young core that by 2015 that may be ready to make some noise. We will have to see as well about Sumner because I am intrigued by Miller to Sykes and the potential of that combo.
