What vices if any do you have? Drinker, smoker, coffee?

I have had many. I however matured from many of them after I had kids. Funny story. I did smoke in college. I remember going to pick up a friend who was out all night and he smoked. He gets in true car and reeked. I asked my now wife if I smelled like that and she said yes. I was no longer a full time smoker.

Who do you think is the strongest team in the weight room in the KCAL

I don't have a feel for if solid weight training programs exist at most of the schools. My guess would be Washington. If the coach is a workout warrior then the team has to be right?

Whose the strongest team in the weightroom? What player or coach would you want with you walking down a dark alley

Awesome question!! Today I would say it would be bonner or piper. I don't know much about the weight lifting programs at other schools. I know basehor has a power lifting team. For a dark alley I would Jonathan Ortiz from Piper. I don't know if he is a beast in the weight room but I know he could look the part.

Yes. I think you heard wrong. I don't know that I need anyone to tell me he is doing a good job. I do know that he puts in the time for his players. Any player that complains about him may need to first look in the mirror. I like the staff he has put together. Bowens, Love, Harrison and Williams is a good core to work with. You are not doing a good job if you don't have haters so thanks for validating my answer.

What do you think about schlage football? Lost lots of players and coaches

Yes. Sam Simmons won't be back with the Stallions. Ian Moses however will be a good addition to the staff coaching the offensive line. You lose players like Browning, Wallace, Wallace, Sayles, McIntosh and you start thinking things are going to be a disaster but this team will not be void of senior leadership. Are these seniors good enough to earn the rest of the leagues respect is the biggest thing. I saw Terry Hunter at the Darrell Stuckey camp. We should see him on offense and defense this year. Bruce, Gibbs, McNeal should make a good core on defense.

If a football player was transferring in to the KCAL which school for football would you recommend? Best coach to play for and why?

I would pick Washington today. I think his enthusiasm and family atmosphere is going to blossom at Washington. He is putting the pieces in place in the weight room, 7 on 7 and engaging with the players to help get them to the next level.

How bad do you think bonner basketball will struggle this year?

Rest assured they will struggle. I got to play a bit with the Dotson brothers and Brenden could provide a solution at PG for Bonner. If Jordan Jackson is playing any other position besides a 2 or a 3 then it will be every bit as bad as you can imagine. Jordan is not the type of player that creates his own shots so that will be a challenge if he is having to play PG or even in the post. Zshavon Dotson is an interesting piece as well for Bonner. He is a scorer but will need to be willing to pass the ball if they will be successful. The team lost Howell, Twombley, Terrell and even with them struggled to score so it could be a challenging season for Bonner. I know coach Steit will work to figure something out.

Wha school do you predict to lead the KCAL in Rushing?

I don't know that I have quick answer to this. Javeon Williams and Marvin Bowens is a good tandem for Washington. I don't know yet who is going to step up at WR for them so they could be dominated in their run to pass ratio. Atchison will also sport a good duo in Housh and Rivers. Wyandotte will do a lot that should be considered run but will be a spread squad. I hate answering without knowing what is returning or what will be on the line but I will vote Washington right now.

Do you consider Beebe as part of the basketball mix at Piper, or is he strictly football only. Seems like I remember him starting as a Freshman.

Colton is very much a part of the basketball team. We in fact noted Colton on our All Underclassmen team as a freshman based on his success after that season. His sophomore season however I think he developed body and frame wise to make him an obvious first sport football player. I worried about this as he was lining up on the defensive line at points last year. He will be a bruiser off the bench for the Piper basketball team but I don't think he will be a leading scorer. I will state what should be obvious to everyone that he will get his scholarship on the football field and not on the basketball court.

piper seems to be very overrated for having one somewhat successful season in basketball? losing in 1st round of state

I don't know that I agree that going from 1 or 2 wins in a season to 17 is "somewhat success". If you are saying that then there is only 1 team in each division that is successful each year. Winning a Substate championship is a good thing. If it was a group of seniors that eventually got it together then I wouldn't have as much optimism but they bring back 6 of their top 8 players from last season. High school success goes in cycles based on groupings of players. Over rated would mean that Long, Jennings, Eskina, Owens and Harpers success last season was a fluke and won't do anything this year. I don't believe that to be true.

What movie star would you most like to meet?

Billie Bob Thorton. I want to talk to him for a few hours about Monsters Ball.

How come you don't do Next Level Workouts for Junior High players? I think you would be surprised at the turnout?

We have done that in the past. Many are in the local football programs and it didn't go over well that they were working with us. Hit me up. If we can get a group of ten or more I can make it happen.

I do not but I am not surprised there are more. I know ksstate has invited for a visit.

Take on Basehor Linwood basketball this coming season?

I haven't been popular in my Basehor opinions because I haven't penciled them into the state tournament. They will feature the best 3 guard line up in the city. You know what you are getting with Younger and Downing. We will see if McNabb will be consistent through out the season. Jahron McPherson should take a step forward on this team being first off the bench. Muldoon transfer is huge for the Bobcats.

Any chance Tongie vs Piper gets on tv?

I really need to see the schedule to get a idea for what we are going to broadcast. I have a goal to get each of the 14 schools once and let matchups dictate toward the end of the season. I am thinking though that the station is going to want to know the schedule. I thought that Piper vs Eudora would be a no brainer first game but see that Turner vs Bonner is also week 1. I am going to start reaching out to coaches for schedules so I can review. I will announce our schedule in the next few weeks. So all that to say I don't know yet.

Are you as pumped for bonner football as much as I am?

Football in general but not Bonner. I am pumped to see our broadcast on TV. I am going to have to bring it!!

It is rare to see leadership in a player so young but he has those characteristics. He has a good frame and as a freshman most likely will see some growth. Coach Cline said he did a good job picking up some of the basic techniques and I am confident that if he continues to come work with him that his skills will continue to develop. While I love having the varisty players out it is the young players like Haley that will benefit the most from Next Level workouts. If they come out and grind over the course of a few years then the sky is the limit.

Do you think McBride from Basehor is just as bad as the Leavenworth Girls coach for recruiting players to their school?

Ehh. I don't know that I would call it recruiting. That is an ugly charge without some legit proof of this taking place so I won't go there. You are still talking about families moving to get in the school district which is going to happen. I am aware of the Johnson deal from Piper but again I don't know that I would even call that recruiting.

How big do you think that haley kid will get

I am not sure who that Haley kid is but I am aware of a DB at Shawnee Mission NW.

Do you know who will be playing the o-line for basehor this year?

Basehor lost a lot of size in Andrew Lillich. Nick Chaney will be the senior leader on the line. Nathan Kenton looks intriguing at 6'2 239 coming back as a Junior. Jesse Small also has some weight on him. Young offensive line it appears led by Chaney.

Best "too small" player in kvl in football? Like build mismatch

Smallest impact player will be Travon Jones at Piper. Sterling Owens is short but will be hard to find for the Pirates as well.

Is Younger from Basehor quick enough, tall enough and have the handles to play college ball? I know he's a good high school playa?

College ball is pretty vague because he will play at the next level. Too good of a scorer not too. I don't think he is quick but he is smart enough and skilled enough to get his shot off. He isn't tall enough to play d1 but I wouldn't be shocked if he landed a d2 offer. I really like chase as a high school player. If he has one more growth spurt this conversation changes.

The next player to go to a major D1 school from this area is? (Any major sport )

Well for the third consecutive year we will have a bcs player. I won't sell Potter and Browning short. They are playing for d1 schools as well. Dumler, Jackson, Berry, Gibbs have shots at d1 programs. Next year I think it would be a travesty if Colton Beebe is not heading to a bcs school. I don't think we have any basketball players who will crack d1 but d2 is possible.

Who is the best local up and coming broadcaster other than yourself

I have little to no training on that so I really don't know if I am up and coming. I just try to have a good time with it. Vernon Birmingham and I have built a good team I think. I really don't listen to myself or critique anyone. I would need to listen closer I guess.
