Not sure I would agree there. I have limited views on them but saw them. I would be curious the perspective from a sumner player as they played both teams.

They have lost once to a 6a team by one. they are good but anyone is beatable.
In your honest opinion how does Washington match up against High Land Park the their chances for the state title?
Highland Park is very athletic at like four spots. the big run the floor well. It is really going to be tough for Washington.
The earlier question was not meant as a criticism to the job Owens has done for Piper all year. He has played very well. Just think a true PG usually looks for the assist before the bucket. Piper relied on him to drive and score. Definitely think you need a PG who controls the game 1st.

Washington can score. yes the substate was weak but you can say the same for Lansing. Yes they have a shot if they get hot. highland is very talented though.
Are you heading to salina to watch the games this week?
I am likely in Topeka. If neither team is in the final in Topeka and basrhor or sumner is then I will.

BL has many talented individuals. They have lots of guys who love to shoot and the best big man in the KVL. I think the unselfish, unheralded leader is Downing. If he plays at the level he can, they have a great shot at another title!

Don't let these basehor fans fool you, 4A sucks. Basehor probably wouldn't make the state tournament in 5A and if they did they definitely wouldn't advance.
It would depend on which substate they were in. Basehor would beat many 5a teams.
4a basketball is a joke? A couple years ago 4a's top five could have easily beaten 5a's top 5. Benny, swank, semi, Murphy's?
Agree. I spoke about that. Sumner went to blue valley tourney and crushed. Same with the good Basehor squads. Not the case this year though. 5A if loaded.
Just from an outsiders perspective, the reason Piper did not win at state last year and against BL this year and last year is the fact that they don't have much discipline offensively and don't fully understand the concept of what a good shot actually is.
I don't follow. They were at the rim and saying that doesn't give the credit where it is due. Piper didn't play bad. Basehor in the end was a little better.
4a Basketball is NOT a joke ! Do your research on McPherson basketball. Arguably the BEST basketball town and school in the State of Ks over the years. 11 count them 11 State Championships ! Many other State appearances too ! Mostly they have been a 5a school until recently. Good luck Basehor !
My first exposure to state was in 91. Sxhlagle played McPherson in the first game. Henson was the truth. Funny enough I played in a league in Lawrence with one of the Henson brothers. packing some lbs and bald head could still fill it up.
Don't think 4a basketball is a joke most kids on the teams play on top aau teams and compete and beat 5a and 6a kids

I agree with the last question and what you guys said at the start of the season. Lack of a true PG hurts a team. Quickness is a plus but floor vision is a must. Would have been interesting to see if Piper's season would be different with a true PG.
I thought Owens played one of his best games but a floor general is always very important.

What do you think about the charges called on piper?
The one on Harper was gross to me. He turned strong which is what I would teach. refs were not good on either side.
I think Pipers main struggle this year was the fact that they didn't have many role players. All predominant scorers. What do you think?
I think they were a very good team. They shared a league with two teams a little better than them. We can not pick them to death to try and find a why but I think it is that simple. The addition on Muldoon pushed Basehor over the top.
Piper had too good of a squad this year to not get a state bid. What are your thoughts on what they did wrong?
They played their buts off. they didn't do anything wrong basehor was just a little better. there have been teams Luke this through out the years. schlagle in the eighties had a three loss team. all to wyandotte and didn't go to state.

Coin flip. I don't know how you can definitively declare a favorite in Topeka.
After watching that game last night I respect both Younger and Long a little more. They maintain a game face the entire game, no show boating, no trash talking, no questioning the refs, no complaining when calls don't go their way or celebrating when they do. Too bad everyone doesn't play like that.
Hate I didn't get to see Luke after. I never do it but I wanted to shake hands with the players. Younger is a quiet young man. I saw that during the media day event we did. He played his heart out. Long goes in my personal fav list for his four years. time goes by so fast.
It's funny but the same people complaining about letting the refs change the game with the t in the girls game are the ones who think it was OK in the boys game. What are you thoughts on Piper getting called for it when it was obvious Muldoon initiated and then celebrated after?
None of us saw what happened. of course it wasn't ok. they easily could have got Eskina which is who I was watching. second guy always gets caught.
