Sleeper KVL athlete that we will all know after the 2013 football season

Jahron McPherson could open some eyes. He got a lot of reps in 7 on 7 and has the speed to do some things. I know I am watching to see if he breaks out.

What does it take for a freshman to start varsity?

Watch the movie Rudy. Work that hard and be that stubborn and you will get to play. Of course being void of talent is not easily over come. But if you are good then the best advice I can give is for you to come out and work harder than everyone else. I would love to see freshman at our workouts. Noah Alexander is going to be a sophomore and he is out there putting in work with starting varsity players. You will rise and compete with the company you keep.

What do you think is the most important quality or skill a basketball player should have?

I hate to say basketball IQ but I really think your brain can carry you pretty far. You can have all the talent in the world and jump out the gym but if you are a idiot it helps no one. Being 6'6 is another good quality but being smart basketball player means a lot to me. Passing on time, setting a subtle screen or flashing to open up space are lost arts and things that aren't discussed. It is an amazing situation how the game slows down when you play smart.

Best KVL football team over the last five years?

Nick Sloan wrote an article about the 2012 Mill Valley squad and the 2010 Basehor team. I only saw the 2010 team against Sumner and I really believe they just ran into a buzz saw that night. I would go with 2010 Basehor.

Any chance of getting a kcal-kvl allstar football game this year?

I have no plans to do that at this time. Austin and I were however talking about the development of a 7 on 7 team next summer. If we get the not for profit status this will be something we will pursue.

Any chance for more cross country coverage this year?

I don't know that I would call what I did last year coverage. I will post results and monitor the events. We will name award winners for the girls and boys.

Laugh my ass of the players you say that are D1 are awful!

Tell that to the schools recruiting them. I am sure they are looking for their future replacement. Always good to have a heckler. LOL!

What's the potential in the atchisons linemen and there size??

No idea although I anticipate getting to meet a young lineman from Atchison this weekend. #71 Haley is a freshman or sophomore and I really love it when players this young reach out about work outs. I am looking forward to seeing how he does working with coach Cline. You don't teach work ethic. As for the rest of the line we will have to wait and see.

Does Mikinzy stick at QB in Minnesota or do they eventually move him? By the way, he's impressive at any spot.

McKinzy was promised to play QB. He is a fantastic CB however and we will see how that goes. Cracking the lineup at QB is difficult but perhaps he can get on the field quicker as a CB. Armand Brisbane was like that at Benedictine. Perhaps they give him a shot to win the QB job or at least playing time there but he ends up getting on the field as a corner. Either way we get a treat watching him in his senior season. He was exciting last year at both spots. All SHUKC Offense and Defense.

Not familiar with Antonio Moore. Tell us more about him, so we can help promote his talents.

I call him Mr. Electric. He can take carries out of the back field and go out to wide receiver. He can go the distance on kick and punt returns. I have not seen his forty time but I would describe him like a Desean Jackson. Once he gets to the edge it is over. I am excited about what he does this year after what I hope is a solid bit of work over the summer. He is a kid you want to have touch the ball as much as possible in space. Junior at Wyandotte High School. I think this season we will see the impact field position wise of not kicking to him.

Speaking of Beebe and a possible BCS shot, what position will he play at the college level?

That is a good question and we have 2 years to find out. I thought based on his weight during basketball that he would grow into a defensive lineman. He had one of the top defensive plays of the year with his hand on the ground. I questions a bit his lateral speed to get to the edge but I have seen him numerous times this summer and he is getting faster. MLB or FB. He is under rated for what he did at FB last year.

Best two way player(s) in KCK and KVL football?

KCK: Dimonic McKinzy and Javeon Williams off the top of my head. KVL: Paul Berry and Khalil Bailey would be my first couple of choices. Many to choose from of course.

How far do you expect Piper to go in the playoffs?

Once you get the playoffs you just don't know. Piper has had just a fantastic run the last few years. Anything but a final is a step back for Piper who have taken a step each of the last few years. Kudos to the staff and the program they have built. Also a lot of credit should go to the community who are organizing and training them while they are young and most importantly together.

Are you gay for Kyle dumler

Jealousy and envy are ugly characteristics to have. I am just answering the questions to the best of my ability. If I think he is good then so be it. I am high on a number of players but I feel it is my duty in this role to promote and share information about our area athletes as much as possible. Perform better on the field and we can talk about you.

Sure fire D1 talented players in KCKAL and KVL football?

There are some obvious ones but I will pick a few younger players. Antonio Moore should get some looks. He has raw speed and should garner some attention. I don't know if he hit the combines but he can hurt you in so many different ways I can't imagine a D1 coach wouldn't want that type of athlete. KVL I think Beebe is going to land at a BCS school. He is good and his work ethic will make him better. Dumler will go D1. Berry and Jackson could get lower tiered D1 offers.

If another 4 win or less season in KVL, does Lansing find a new footbal coach for 2014?

No. He is getting to the playoffs so I don't see why you would want that. They fought some injuries early and really came on at the end of the season. He groomed a new starter in Krystian Abbott who is showing very well in the offseason. As long as you are getting to the playoffs I say don't touch it.

Who do you see in eithrr Metro Sports or 810 Varsity Top 25 from area? Piper and ...

Piper will likely be in based on what they did last year and some key returning starters. I am wondering if that is also the case for Mill Valley or they get crushed for losing all those seniors. Tonganoxie should but likely will get snubbed in that poll. Wyandotte has a lot coming back but I doubt they get any love after struggling in district last season. 6A is a tough pill to crack. Unfortunately we don't get a hell of a lot of love in these polls.

Who was the SHUKC baseball player of the year this past season

We didn't name one or a team. That is a possibility in the future. We only had award ceremonies for football and basketball.

Predictions on bonner wrestling?

I predict that Aaron Puckett will not be there. The only thing I know is that Coach Jobe has produced the last two wrestler of the year for SHUKC so he is no doubt doing his part to build on the success the program has had the past couple of years.

Why are you so negative towards basehor? I don't believe you ever give us a chance

I said that a few days ago that I am not making any friends in Basehor. Trust it is not personal as I am a big fan of both McBride and coach Hopkins. The players are awesome too. I was real high on Chase Younger and we broadcast a number of Basehor games in 2012 and we will in 2013. It is an opinion on the year I anticipate for this season. So it should be noted that yes I am not saying they are winning state this year but I will be happy to celebrate any successes and possibly being wrong.

What are Schlagles key loses including Wooten's transfer back in January?

Browning, Trevon and TJ Wallace, McIntosh, Ambler, Sayles and Cory Smith. I didn't know Wooten transfered so yes that is a big blow. McNeal, Gibbs, Hunter and Bruce however don't plan to rebuild.

Offensive and defensive PoY upper classmen and lower classmen

I will just provide some players to watch for each award. Offense: Jordan Jackson, Paul Berry, Tanner Eikenbary, Dimonic McKinzy, Antonio Moore and Khalil Bailey are players to watch. Defense: Derrick Gibbs, Kyle Dumler, Xavier and Dimonic McKinzy, Colton Beebe. Not official list at all so no complaints if they aren't candidates at the end of the year. Production speaks for our awards.
