Next year's football season could Washington make it to the playoffs

We will see. I think they need to go to work on a passing attack. Shakir Love and Derek Jones are a couple of the losses. It is possible.

Thoughts on holloway from tongie?

He would be another example of what I just spoke about. Humble and dedicated. He is willing to put in the work to get a little better. He did great on the radio in showing that as well. Great family. He deserves a shot at the next level.

Beebe was pretty humble on your show last weekend. Seems like a good kid and a talented player! I agree with your comments on league selections, but wonder what the voting coaches were thinking, if stats mattered, and how much names they knew were more important than value to a team and performance?

I don't pass around the praise I give Colton lightly. He is the full package of talent, brains and character. He is benefited greatly by a strong family structure. It is no coincidence that the most successful players I have encountered have strong families supporting them. Vernon Vaughn, Benny Parker, J'Veyon Browning, Stevie Williams, Jackson's all have that same common denominator. Yes you can make it without it but I can't stress enough how much a strong family helps in shaping men. I really don't know what the league teams were about. Wins and league performance I guess but I can find cases where they were rewarding careers.

Not a real question but I graduated from basehor two years ago, coach hop was a great guy and a class act coach but couldn't simply get it done. He had some of the worst play calling ever. He is the reason why Basehor did nt go as far as they should back in the Murphy, Johnson era.

I was at the playoff game at Basehor-Linwood vs Sumner Academy. I don't think play calling allowed Sumner to score as much as they did. He was good enough I think to go 10-0 and 9-1 in a few years during that time but as we see with Mill Valley this year and in years past we have to elevate our games up. Basehor does have numbers out and some of the best facilities to compete at the highest levels but in the end the players will make plays. I struggle with this because it sounds like deflection to me. Coaches call plays and the players need to execute. To say the play calling is the sole reason a series of plays did not work when it takes 11 players to be successful is a bit tough to swallow.

How is it to work beside such a comic genious as Vernon? Being serious here. He's a guy that I would love to hang out with anytime just to talk about sports and life. Just a great sense of humor.

I am guarded with most anything that I do. Keep your circle small is always my moto. He is in that circle. I am not sure about a comic genious but he is a funny guy.

Who do you think will have the biggest year in basketball this year?

Big per player is relative. The person I expect to lead his team with the biggest step forward from last year is Nunnally at Wyandotte. I have seen the potential but now results are required.

hopkins finally resigns as football coach a little too late?

A little to late for what? I am getting mixed messages from people on this. small few didn't like how things were going. I don't have details. I will see if I can get Hopkins on the radio. I thought he was a good coach from my limited view. will never forget his willingness to help me when I needed film for my cousin.

What is the best recruiting service to use? No bias

I wrote an article on these. I don't recommend any of them honestly. Mainly because the service they provide is a lazy way of doing what you can and should do yourself. They maintain a database of information you should research and know about the schools you want to try and attend. Reaching out to schools through those tools will get lumped in with everything else. But a personal email from you to the recruiting coordinator is the way to go. You can create your film yourself and I can help for a fraction of what you would pay anyone else and then you can have as much information I can provide for free. Do they help yes but not for the money they take to be in their network.

I saw Bowens and he was a heck of a good FB. He was tough to bring down, opened big holes for his TB, protected his QB, and had solid hands out of the backfield. Many talented FBs, but he was a good pick. Also, not sure how many leagues appeared to ignore stats in their league picks? Thoughts?

http://www.buzzsprout.com/16389 we really hit this topic hard during the radio show. The KCAL team specifically snubbed the two highest yardage and TD WR's in the league. This didn't sit well with Vernon Birmingham and myself. I was a little fired up about the QB's in KVL. You can hear that as well on the show.

Midgyett or Green never crossed your mind for fullback? Leading Cobbins for a big season and both having decent decent yards on the ground

Honestly the hunt was for someone that was better than what we saw from Bowens at Washington. He had over 600 yards rushing and was effective catching passes out of the backfield. He is also the lead blocker for Javeon Williams who had over 1000 yards. Yes we looked at each of the offenses and how they ran their offense. Very few true full backs out there. Midgyett i saw at the harmon game. He did have a good game and season.

Who is going to win that "Play of the year" category?

Join us December 14th at SHUKC's version of the ESPY's to find out. 6:00 PM at KCKCC auditorium.

basketball season officially starts today great year ahead in the kvl?

Yes sir!! How about this senior class? I am looking forward to seeing what the KVL All Star team will look like. Lansing, Basehor, Piper, Mill Valley will all have competitive teams. Bonner, Ward and Tonganoxie will have good teams as well. I can't wait!!

Who was second place for All SHUKC Fullback?

We had some trouble with this spot. We chose not to classify Jared Knernshield, Shane Levey as true full backs. Colton Beebe was another consideration but Marvin Bowens we felt truly played up and had a lot of FB dives and was the true lead blocker for Javeon William's big season.

I think you are spot on with your snubs for all league teams. Especially in the case of Ford, who put up big nmbers in all league games, and unlike many players had to share the ball. I am curious if the coaches even considered stats, value to a team, or impact the player brings to overall game?

It wasn't a snub rather a flat miss. we talked about this at length on the radio this morning.

Thoughts on Mill Valleys season

Aj
I thought hey had a good year. You can't go 10-1 and not say the season was good. Once you get this far into the season all the teams are very good and Blue Valley obviously has a good squad. I haven't gotten to watch just yet but I could see even against Aquinas that physicality of these playoff teams would be an issue.
