I wouldn't say the basketball team is alright. Baseball I don't watch closely enough.

I do not pretend to think I could come and watch one practice and say what is wrong with a team. I have full confidence that Coach Dorian and his staff are doing what can be to fix it. The bottom line is that Ward has 300 kids in which to put a team together with. That is not a good recipe for wins in this league unless you have a special group come up together.

I think the Bonner d line vs mill valley may be the matchup to watch. I am considering being stubborn as this is an opportunity for Kyle Dumler. if he can dominate Friday I think he cements himself as a target for colleges. if Bonner gets behind big early and has to abandon the running game then it is over.
What's wrong with piper
A simple question has a very complex answer. Piper is young and inexperienced at too many positions to replicate what they had last year. Here in lies the argument for numbers and then those numbers having to play on both sides of the ball. If you have such a few number of athletes that have to perform on both sides of the ball then you are not developing your young athletes. That then gives a smaller school like Piper a window to have something special happen. It is just a reality that after last years class that logged so many snaps left the new players taking their place to have to learn on the job at the beginning of this season. Colton Beebe is a prime example playing LB, DT, FB, RB, TE is great when Colton Beebe is there but that means that another player is not getting that experience. To win in football you need 10-15 players in a special class. Case in point Sumner Academy and Basehor-Linwood. Both teams post special class have fallen off looking for that next special group of talent and it has to be a full group. Maybe that next group of talent is getting experience now.

Well for the sake of me walking from Wyandotte to Schlagle: I am hopeful for a 3 way tie at the top. Wyandotte, Washington, Atchison, Schlagle, Sumner, Harmon.
Who should be schlagle starting quarterback Damon Downs or Mike Davis?
I noticed this week that Davis got some snaps. We had a few games to see Downs at the position and the thing that stuck out to me was the depth on his drop. He is a shorter QB so getting back and away from the line is essential. I really think he would have benefited from working with us over the summer. When he takes a 3 step drop he is litterally throwning over the lineman in front of him. He throws a good ball though but I would work to get him in the Pistol or shotgun so he can get away from the line. Davis we just have a short sample size. Not sure if he is the young man that came in for Sayles last year or not but no real opinion either way right now.
Why do you think Sumner's Slotback doesn't get the ball? He looks like a playmaker.
I am not sure who the slotback is. They are struggling to pass the ball right now as Ben Miller gets comfortable at the QB position. The running game is doing ok as well.

Never seen him play. He has some length. Not sure what position he plays but I will be on the look out for that. Ward should be improved.

Luke is a very talented player. I like his game a lot but he is also on a very talented team. Luke Long will be an All Star this year for sure.

Its a completely new team now watch some of there DBs film. Shut down basehor receivers and line is starting to step it up as well
basehor hasn't been able to throw the ball much. I would guess there is a good amount of success against a piper passing attack that has struggled.

db's are going to be tough in the law valley because really only one team passes the ball. McPherson has made some good plays. I liked 25 from piper. I am not sure yet.

After the game Friday what's your thoughts on atchison's secondary?
they stepped up big. we don't know yet the extent of the injury to McKinzy but he was stationary especially on the sack and int they got. the defense gave up 40 first half points but made plays. gritty.
Why do you think mill valley won
defense is the easy answer.
I know basehor isnt really that great on offense but lansings defense held the to only a two point conversion
