Celebrating!! I am not sure what more I can do other than to tell them to get to work. Signing is just the beginning. My main message is to get to work. It doesn't have to be with us but work and show up to camp prepared.

Derek also takes a lot of plays off on Defense, i dont think he has learned to take pride in his Defense yet. Young is a pretty good on ball defender but he needs to do what he was doing early on in the season offensively, he seems less confident now. Taller Sykes needs to hold his own vs Wash bigs
I agree on Young with his confidence. He looked nervous against Piper but again first year starter you are going to have to live with the ups and downs while he figures it out. The second he shrugs his shoulders and just plays ball he will be fine. I haven't watched every game for Derek but against Piper he looked worn down running that trap out top. If they are going to stick with the defense then they need someone to give them some minutes off the bench. Washington went very deep into their bench.

I didn't know about Smith from MV. Someone send me some details on that one. I love it. I know everyone wants to go D1 but my main concern off the top is an education and getting a majority of an education paid for is awesome. This is still a high level of football and I am happy to see these players get the opportunity to keep competing. It is a testament to their hard work and the programs that they are a part of.
Wondering how signing day will be effected if the schools are closed due to weather?
I want to say this happened a few years back as well. They will probably delay the ceremonies the schools do till Thursday.
Do you feel Matt McDonald can be a Division 1 player ?
His game translated well before the injury. If he can stay healthy then yes I am very confident he can land on a D1 roster.
A good coach doesnt have a set substitution pattern that he uses every game at ghetsame time no matte how any player is doing that is rec league! And piper still has not even won league or won a game at the state levethey have improved but not as much as people think
Coaches do not have set rotations? I know watching the NBA you have a pretty good idea the rotation of players and there is a sixth man award which is usually the first person off the bench. I do like riding a hot hand though and I am sure all coaches do. Piper took a major step forward. Going from 2 wins to state is impressive. Next year will be the real test for coach Wallace. Relying a lot of seniors right now so not a lot of experience being gained by the under class men.
Bonner Vs. Ward this Friday? Who wins? Any key match ups to watch for?
I would pick Bonner. Henley and Brull against the twins would be a good match up.
Focal Points for Sumner Academy and Focal points for Washington?
Will Derek Sykes attack Washington's bigs. Sumner is not the deepest team in the league either so it will be important for both Sykes and Marshall not to get in foul trouble. JT Bennett is a bull dog when he goes to the rim so foul trouble could be key for Sumner in trying to stop him. He is averaging 27 or so a game so you don't need to look much further than that. Sumner needs to make bennett a jump shooter. Imagine if Derek Sykes had JT Bennetts mentality. McNeal will be key. I would be as happy as can be to let Washington beat me from behind the arch.

A ton of production graduated. Conservatively I would guess 95% of yards and td's gone. one of the best dt gone all points to a rebuild.
Sumner vs Washington predictions?
Sumner needs to find some confidence and I am not sure they will get it from Washington. Coach King said it himself he looks at Sumner as his biggest rival so guess what he has been telling his team for the last week. GET READY!!
Ottawa had way more talent than basehor the year basehor beat them at state. They just got badly out coached my McBride
That is a stretch. Overall I think Basehor had more overall talent. that is why they won.
If coaching isn't a factor, then how did Piper bb do a complete 180 with basically the same varsity players? That is what a good coach, good players, AND a supportive community will get you!
Make no mistake a coach is important but those players have to buy in to what the coach is selling.

I honestly do not follow baseball very closely. I have flirted with ideas of broadcasting some baseball but we will see.
How well do you think Josh Adams will perform next football season?
I would say Josh was quiet in terms of production this year but he is a sophomore. A year of growth and development and we will see. I think he has the work ethic to get better so that is a huge plus for him.
Anyone in the last three years have a chance to go to the nfl?
I don't think so but again I am not watching that closely once they leave. Not enough hours in a day for me to do that. i hope so!
What if wardbaseball goes to state this year what will it do for the team and school?
It will be another feather in the cap for a great head coach.

Yes. He played on the team with the twins and a few other good players. he moved over and played with Coach Johnson from Avila.
ottawa had one superior player and he did beat a lot of teams on his own he took over 90% of the shots the year that they won state. basehor had 5 try solid players compared to ottawa who might have had one great player and one solid player. also willie caulie stein was not very good in high school
Good enough to be in the Mo Kan game. I could do a lot of things with a 7 footer. Shields is doing well at Nebraska so the talent was there but maybe it didn't come out. So in less than a year at Kentucky the kid is NBA projected in top 15. 6 months out of high school where he wasn't very good?
It doesn't take great coaching at the high school level to win a state title. If you have a good class you can always out talent bad coaching. in high school this happens a lot more than in college or pros.
Tell the fans of Olathe Northwest that and see what they say. 2 division 1 players failed to get out of substate. Why didn't Ottawa beat Basehor then. They had one of the top talents this area has seen in years. Yes you have to have talent but if coaching isn't good then you won't win.
I have to say coach mcbride at basehor is overated he seems lost in coaching in close games and would rather blame the loss on refs than his own deficiency of knowing how to coach tight situations
A vague assessment. Do all coaches make mistakes? Sure. He however has an incredible winning percentage and a couple of state titles. So it is not overated to say he has done a good job in two different jobs.
