Top three kvl receivers in you're eyes and what specifically set them apart for the rest, any of them good leaders?

Bailey and Tucker are two. A lot of new faces. I like the potential for Freese at bonner. Not sure on the leadership part. We will see.

How can you say basehor has no talent when they have 3 all league players returning and that Phillips kid you talk about and made your alls KCK preps team last year?

Jake Phillips and Corey McCleary will be good defensive players. I don't ask the questions I just answer them. I didn't say they have no talent.

...and thats one major season gone out of only 4 years to make an impact

I would argue against this as well. Scholarships in basketball are not earned in high school games. Sorry but that is reality. 1 you play 25 or so games during the season and the season coincides with the seasons of the college teams so that doesn't lend itself time to go recruit as much at these games. Yes high school success if very important and not to be diminished in anyway but if your goal is to get to the stage then AAU basketball was where it got done. I had the opportunity to talk to a DII coach. I get many coaches following me now and if you are not playing AAU they don't know you unless you are a complete standout.

I read your article about playing 2 sports but what do you say to the athletes who dont want to play football because basketball is their main sport and they get injured during football season where does that leave them come time bball season

Basketball is a non-contact or injury free sport in itself. Yes football is more physical but I would like to focus on the main sport point. It may be your favorite sport but just as in the example I shared with my cousin Vernon. Basketball was his first love but football was where he dominated. If you are making your final decision based simply on love then you are possibly missing an opportunity to excel at another sport. Mitchell Ballock is the prime example. Freshman and has a D1 offer on the table in basketball. If he chooses not to play football because of that then I am all for it. If you are not getting D1 attention as a freshman, sophomore and especially as a junior then you have missed out on possibly securing one on the football field or baseball or track. You can't play sports scared. Injuries are unfortunate but they happen in all sports. Benny Parker had opportunities in both sports and made the decision his senior year to play basketball. I am all for that type of decision. Freshman and Sophomores that are good enough athletes without D1 offers should not be making this decision so soon.

will basehor football win any games this year? they have no receivers, a qb that has only taken a few snaps at the varsity level and a porous defense all coupled with a coach that has only won because of talent in the past.

I am not sure what coach wins without talent. I say this all the time. You don't see Phil Jackson running to the Bobcats to coach them to championships. Why? Because he would lose just the same. We will have to wait and see. I agree having a first year starting QB is scary but that is the same case from last season. Broc Lindsey and Jahron McPherson will be outside. McPherson is fast so we will see if they can come up with creative ways to get him the ball. There is no more chucking it up to Ben Johnson any more so they will have to get creative. I think Hopkins is very organized and can coach so talent or no they will be prepared.

Has philips from bazehor Linwood reall got that much bigger from last year to this year?

I didn't think enough to see him put his hand on the ground like I am hearing he may do out of necessity. I saw him at the Preps to Prospects camp and he is a good sized kid but think he is best suited at LB. Team needs however will dictate where he lines up.

Max preps stats are worthless real stats for younger last year for 21games 39 steals(led the team) 88boards (2nd on team) 50 percent shooting from the field 399 points 19 ppt average mcnabb was out 7 games so pretty evident why he had less shots people should get their facts straight

Well said. Hopefully those stats can be uploaded to Maxpreps to prevent confusion.

Just a little inside info on Coach Wallace, he's got game on the course. The guy can do it all.

I knew I should have gotten a ringer on my team!!

I hear that Coach Wallace from Piper may be playing. What kind of golf game do you think he will have?

Yes coach Wallace will be in the house. I don't know many former basketball players that crush it on the golf course. The safe bet would be he isn't very good so I will go with that. He spends too much time with his team to be good at golf.

I agree completely, but, those were the only stats I could find! Again, Younger is a heck of a player, but to say Schneider is not is just a little absurd!

I think we agree.

How many schools are being represented in your golf tournament?

I didn't get a lot of students unfortunately. I could have 9 teams tomorrow. So not players but representatives from Piper, Basehor, Sumner, Schlagle will all be in attendance. I have 3 highlights to pass out and some shirts. Its not to late if you want to sign up $280 for a team.

I am a young football and basketball player in the KVL. My coaches said I don't have a very high "basketball/football iq". Who would I look at the past couple years to figure out what to do?

This is a very good question. "IQ" in sports is broken down quite simply for me. Knowing the rules of the game, awareness of the situation you are in and your ability to quickly figure out what to do. It is the ability to find cracks in strategy. This PG sits and slams the ball with his right hand. So playing him the other way to force him into a situation he may not be comfortable in. I talk to my cousin about the 3 layers of thinking and your IQ will rise the second you read and understand how this can apply not just to sports but to life. Level 1 thinking = you as a player or person putting your head down and doing your thing. Not a thought in the world just relying on raw ability to get by. Level 2 thinking = you taking into consideration what your opponent is doing. You are now anticipating what is going to happen and excelling because you are slightly ahead of your opponent. This is why high school athletes struggle at the college level. Through high school their raw ability and Level 1 thinking was enough to get them by but now everyone is skilled so you have to think. Level 3 thinking = is you visualizing and countering what you think your opponent thinks you are going to do. This is when the game slows down completely. If this makes no sense then read it again and again until it does.

Of the golfers playing tomorrow, who do you expect to be the longest hitter?

Me of course. I can hit it pretty far. Now straight on the other hand is where the problem lies.

For the guy talking stats, I am curious as to where yours are from? I concur Younger is a good player, but stats are stats. Maxpreps showed Younger with120 shots, McNabb 40 and Downing 41. That's 3x. He also had only 4 steals and 7 boards in 9 games listed. Schneiders has better stats in all but ppg

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in the maxpreps numbers for Basehor basketball. It is only the first few game. l sounds like a good forum discussion.

once again people don't know what they are talking about on here if you look at the stats younger does not shoot 3x more than team mates he is also an above average defender, just ask joe schneider whenever they play each other they both shut each other down.

A sensible statement.

Best uniforms in the KCAL-KVL? Basketball & football.

I am partial to Piper's Purple in football. Basketball probably Schlagle.

Are there any athletes who received KVL honors in more than one sport? Seems like this league is loaded with talent.

Of the top of my head I can only think of Bailey. There may be some players that play both sports but none jumping out to me that would be on a league team in both.

Out of the kids you have covered, who has chances to go to the league?

My hope is more on if they take advantage of the opportunity and secure an education. Getting to the NFL statistically like ask who will get to win the lottery in a few years. I won't go there.
