Do you cover girls games?

I do report on a lot of girls action but honestly adding the complexity of TV to our broadcast has demanded a ton of time. I am watching and reporting scores as they role in and obviously getting to watch as we setup for our games of the week. On Tuesday's as well when I take pictures.

Washington to win league?

That is becoming a real possibility now that they really have it going. If their bigs do in fact get aggressive and JT Bennett can keep filling it up then they have a shot. There was an injury I heard about but obviously won't speculate on that would be a big loss. They have as good a shot as anyone.

What do you think about Basehors new livestream network? They covered each game at their tournament with audio for each Basehor game and both championship games. They even hooked up 3 camera angles with one behind the backboards. What are your thoughts as I've heard many Basehor people really enjoy

I think it is a great investment by the school and they picked two young people with passion. I love it and support them anyway I can.

how do you feel about sumner academy

I like the pieces and it will be interesting to see if they keep developing. This recent run is just the sign of inexperience of handling a full season. Having sophomores leading the team equals some stretches like this. How the team responds though is what matters. We will find out a lot about Sumner on Tuesday night at Piper.

What one thing do you need to do next?

I would really like to officially be a 501c3. I am very hopeful this may help get some donations so I can implement some other initiatives with SHUKC. Specifically around tutuoring and ACT prep.

Lansing and Basehor are covered often and always by 810 varsity. Do the guys running that have ties to either? We know you went to school in KCK which explains your alliance with area schools.

I don't know that 810 covers Basehor that much. Chad Rader runs 810 varsity and does a great job. He could have the most knowledge of the entire landscape of high school sports in MO and KS. He is a Lansing grad which is why there is a strong tie there with him. I approach things differently. I focus on a few schools and like to think I have a good feel for all 14 of the schools that I cover. I know Chad and consider him a friend. There is no partnerships between our sites though. Basehor's new network is run by the students. They are really developing nicely.

Do comments like the previous one make you regret trying to help out these athletes? Just know, for every one person out there that thinks like that, there are 20 who appreciate what you are doing!

No. It is understandable because we have provided a good amount of coverage for Piper. I view it as a call for attention from another school. I can say that I have been in the building for pictures or broadcasting. Piper, Mill Valley, Basehor, Lansing, Schlagle, Wyandotte, Harmon, Bonner Springs, Washington, Sumner Academy and Atchison. I have not seen Bishop Ward, Turner and Tonganoxie live but on film. I am happy to provide coverage with the limited time I have. You just have to win!!

You need a game of the week for this coming week? What, does Piper have an off day Friday?

Yes I do. No, they play Ottawa.

How do you feel about Sumner's Sophomore Class in basketball?

Still a work in progress. coach parra and I talked about that at halftime of the game of the week. check out that interview tomorrow at three on This TV. 975 on time warner.

basehor 8-2 only losses to the 5a state champs and 5a runner ups from last year, knocked off a very talented and big blue valley team last night on to the championship to avenge last years loss to ottawa. how do you think piper will match up with them?

We have a good opportunity at seeing a three game series with these two teams. Patrick Muldoon is going to be a matchup problem for Piper. I am curious to see if they use Harper or ask Jennings to try and check him. what we are learning about Piper is that I specifically did not give Matt McDonald and Calvin Johnson enough credit. having that lockdown defender will make Pipers task pretty tough. who gets in foul trouble will also play a role. Basehor will be the favorite based on their current resumes.

Who has been the most consistent player, the player making the biggest plays, and the player playing the best defense in both the KVL and KCAL so far?

kvl is Zach Jackson, kcal is JT Bennett.

Thoughts on leaving starters in? it should happen more most of the kids on the benches also get 3-4 quarters of JV basketball in players should not be penalized playing time just because some of the competition is subpar, some of these kids depend on their stats to obtain scholarships.

This is true. I was actually speaking with a coach about that yesterday in relation to the number of quarters a JV player can get. I just don't think stats are a motivator for coaches.

What are your thoughts on a coach leaving his starters in against lesser competition just so they can improve their stats? Is that more important or should the non-starters get the nod? Is it worth possible injury just to beat a team by 40?

I do not think of injury in basketball like I do football unless the starter is already nursing an injury. I don't believe that we should say they are still in the game to pad stats. Perhaps the team has not been practicing well and some success in what can be described as a scrimmage would help get them out of a funk. This game is based a lot of confidence and maybe you get someone in your starting line up some confidence. The only time I feel this is out of line is if the losing team waves the white flag and sits his starters would I feel inclined to do it. You can do a lot in game to play with the mental aspect of the game with you team. Up 20 at the half you can coach you team to simulate being tied and winning this 3rd quarter. We are down 5 so lets win this quarter to get back in the game. Being able to play these types of scenerios in a game situation is important in my opinion. It is an opportunity though to get some JV players some time.

Isn't Good Friday April 18th and Easter April 20th? Seems like those would be bad dates for the All-Star game. If those are your only two options Friday would be the best.

That is the first I have heard he was gone. Are you saying he is hurt or left the school?

What game is SHUKC telecasting this week? You guys are really doing a great job. Too bad you aren't able to do one game of each team in the KVL and KCKAL because I know for most of these players and teams having a game like that on DVD would be special.

First I want to say thanks for the kind words. It is tough. I am going to try and do as many of the schools as possible but I can't guarantee everyone will get a game. I am trying to build this up from scratch really because "This TV" isn't a channel many people even know about. I am happy with it so far although we keep improving each week and learning more and more. Hopefully everyone gets on board and thinking of This TV just like they do Metro Sports but this is SHUKC's weekly time slot to spotlight out area. So inclusion and finding good competitive games is a difficult thing to manage.
Tournament week is hard. I plan to do the final of Spring Hill hoping like hell that SUmner and Piper get to the final. I will adjust if neither gets in.

jaron mcpherson from basehor, very overrated? his shooting percentage is horrible and he is a turnover machine.

He plays a role. We spoke with coach McBride about his slow start but he indicated that he is doing well on defense. I thought he played ok against Lansing. Couple of buckets and a 3. If he knocks down the second 3 in that sequence Basehor would have been in business but they don't all go in. He is coming off the bench now so we will see if he settles down. He is a sophomore.

would you rather want a good offensive player or a good defensive player

Really depends on the sport. If we are talking basketball I will take offense. We will coach them up on defense.

Do you have an opinion on parents as coaches at the middle and high school level? It seems to be very divisive especially if the coach exhibits either abusive or favoring behavior that the coaches child carries into the school day.

I can see that being a bad thing depending on the parent and the child. I struggle with trying to coach my son in some things. If the coach exhibits that type of behavior it probably isn't limited to his or her child. I can show you examples of great father son situation. Eric King at Washington and his son Deandre who was our POY last year. I can tell you though that the situation works because of coach Eric King. It is situations and individuals.

Why do you think atchison is good? They are trash!
