Why do people give up so easily on relationships nowadays? Are we becoming more and more selfish?

Yes, I do think society has become more atomised due to neoliberalism and consumerism. I don't like the way jobs are now so insecure that people don't know if they will be in work in six months or even tomorrow.
Also I don't like how energy companies etc encourage people to switch and reward them for switching instead of rewarding them for loyalty, and we're supposed to all act as though we were mini hedge fund managers, when most people haven't got time for that and want a good deal instead of all this "competition" and "choice" that right-wingers fetishise, which in fact is a means of redistrubuting money & power from poor to rich.
Relationship breakdown is linked to this, I think. I accept that some people are LGBT (and I applaud those who form long-term, stable, loving relationships of this kind) and that others, like me and my girlfriend, are just not suited for marriage.
But I do staunchly think that marriage is a commitment that people shouldn't enter into lightly and once they do, they must acknowledge that their spouses and children count for more than themselves.
Some fathers are abusive but many more step-fathers than biological fathers are abusers and ssingle parents have a much harder time than two parents, so it is best for both parents to stay together and I do think the rise of selfishness and atomisation is one of the factors in this.

What is beautiful to you?

Trees, especially (as I live in an industrial area) the self-seeding trees which grow themselves on disturbed ground.
I am a great lover of birch trees especially this stand near where I used to work; it was a bloody awful job but I loved to walk past these trees reclaiming the earth.

Do you believe in past lives? If so, what kind of person do you think you were?

I don't believe in past lives but if I did I'd say I was some kind of great, powerful man who failed in his quest, a bit like Doran Martell, and is being punished by being put on earth as a loser, but one who is intelligent enough to know what not being a loser would be like,

What's Your Favorite City (country)???

The place where my brother used to live, and selfishly moved away from!
Since hotels there are ruinously expensive, I probably can't ever go back there as I can just about afford a flight but not both :(
But it's an awesome place that I'd urge everyone who possibly can visit, to do so.

Do you believe in palmistry?

No, though I do believe physical & mental matters can have impact on different parts of the body, and ill health anywhere, and the legacy of bad diet, substances etc will be visible on other parts of the body.

What color socks are you wearing now?

I haven't put my socks on yet as I try to keep my feet bare when I'm inside. I'm going to work in 5 minutes :( and I'll put some black & orange striped socks on.

What’s the last thing that sent you “down the rabbit hole”? In other words: what’s the last thing you ended up watching/reading about/etc. in excess without realizing how far into it you’d gotten?

In certain moods I compulsovely read right-wing blogs, I think I know their arguments and talking points quite well by now. After I've had a time doing this I always wonder wtaf I've just done and notice how much time was wasted!

What was your first paid job?

I worked in a warehouse in my first year of university, in 2003.
The warehouse handled books, CDs and DVDs, including porn (I watched some porn but didn't really like it; it still does nothing for me).
The first thing I did for money was put 80 singles of I Beleve In A Thing Called Love by The Darkness (I hate the song and the band!) in a box.
This dates me in several ways; thankfully The Darkness buggered off years ago, I can't imagine anyone buys singles, and the warehouse closed in 2007. So thanks for a reminder of how old I am?

In your opinion, what is the most painful thing that a human being can be destined for?

Welcome to my website :)
The worst thing is to be dead inside and feel nothing. Pain is part of life, but killing all your feelings isn't part of life, it's a death.
At Easter I re-read my Easter book, The Four Loves by CS Lewis and he had these words of wisdom to say that I think about when I've quarreled with my family or my girlfriend.
"There is no safe investment. To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket – safe, dark, motionless, airless – it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.
The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell."

Assuming you are hetereosexual, how would you feel if someone of the same sex was attracted to you? Flattered? Uncomfortable? Indifferent? Other?

I'd be more surprised than anything else!

I am straight as an arrow, I have no problem with anyone of any gender fancying me (though I can't imagine anyone does?) as long as they don't harrass me or anything,
