Ok folks, here’s the final instalment of my creepy true tales. https://ask.fm/CactusDoug/answer/142850736112?utm_source=copy_link&utm_medium=iOS This was the least popular title, so I hope it’s ok! I did stumble on one further story from my diary, but I’ll leave it for another time. Thanks again!

Great, I've been to Edinburgh a few times, not seen anything like enough of the city but I love what I've seen.

Have you read Justified Sinner by James Hogg? If you like spooky goings-on at Arthur's Seat you'll love it!

What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done for money?

Syphira’s Profile PhotoSaphira
Well the first job I had was working in a warehouse that distributed CDs and DVDs, including porn.
The very first thing I ever did for wages was load 80 copies of a single "I believe in a thing called love" by The Darkness (I hate them). So I did think this wasn't a very fun introduction to the world of work.
Sorry if this isn't interesting but I've never done anything that wild!

someone gifted us some handmade goodies today including fig preserves (yum) and a rubarb and onion relish. I've never heard of that before, so I don't know how to serve it. Any ideas? Google seemed to lean towards meats but one source said ice cream and I just can't imagine that

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
Bake the fig jam into a cake, fig rolls are a delicacy and I'd imagine this would be even better.
Have the relish with some poppadoms as part of an overarching curry meal.

Regional quiz: Duck duck grey duck, or duck duck goose? Lolipops or suckers? Midday meal: dinner or lunch? Lightning bug or firefly? On accident, or by accident? What do you call a carbonated beverage? The bumps on your skin when you're cold? A hole in the road?

Goose
Lollies
Dinner (though lunch is beginning to catch on, even in traditional working-class areas)
I've never encountered a lightning bug or a firefly!
By accident
Pop/fizzy drink (I don't like them)
Goosebumps
Pothole
Hope this solves the mystery :)

What was the last thing you had to eat? And what was the last thing you had to drink? ?

ronniebon’s Profile PhotoRonnie
Well I had a vegetarian curry based around butternut squash, and adding small pieces toasted rye bread during the final stages of cooking, it's fantastic!
And after that some nakd bars as it was quite heavy.
To drink, I've had a lot of water and some of this

Actually quite nice, and hardcore healthy!
The only problem is, I undermined the health benefits by eating so much of it :)

What's the silliest thing a child has said/done around you? A while ago I had a 2nd grader tell me that they heard one of their classmates say "what the *whispers* HECK"! I also had a 5th grader try to throw away their assignment bc they didn't want to do it. If only life were that simple! :p

AmericanLass’s Profile PhotoC.
Yes, that second kid's outlook on life is one I wish I still had :)
On Saturday I went in a guided tour here & we went up the tower.
http://www.thepotteries.org/tour/003.htm
A child of about 3-4 was excited to see a train pass by and expressed the hope that "the rabbit train. would come soon. This inspired much head-scratching as to what exactly the rabbit train might be, and I joked to the tour guide that if you drop a few tabs you might see the rabbit train then :)
Unfirtunately this has never happened, and I'm still waiting for the rabbit train to arrive!

Can you tell about a time you had the feeling something bad was going to happen and you were right?

Syphira’s Profile PhotoSaphira
Well let me turn this around a but to describe a time when I was terrified something would go wrong but it didn't :)

The power station looks dramatic and moving but I actually got lost in the middle of the scariest part, a big fuck-off electricity generating zone, I could hear the crackling and was worried I'd get shit as an intruder or something. A promising "way out" led to a locked gate and I was disprited but I looked again at the map and somehow found my way back to the river, then had to walk miles to my destination.
Funny how I can look back and say this but I was shitting myself at the time, I can tell you!

If you were able to remove one administrative chore from your life (eg filling out a tax return, signing in to social security), what would it be? Mine would be needing passwords for too many things online.

Finding quotes and captions to attach to my posts, it seriously takes longer than all the rest of the process! What's that all about?

What are you grateful for today?

"This must be Thursday,' said Arthur to himself, sinking low over his beer. 'I never could get the hang of Thursdays.”

It’s been ages since I sent this question out, so I thought I’d repeat it to see if your answers have changed. What topics do you like to receive questions about here? What topics, if any, do you not want to discuss?

I welcome questions on all topics and I do enjoy yours, so please carry on :)
A note to everybody is that I may not be able to think of an answer to your question so then I won't answer it, but I ask people not to be offended or think I'm ignoring them.
Well I also thought I'd mention that I had a really enjoyable religious experience last week :)

I’ve just been asked what the creepiest thing that ever happened to me was. Which experience would you like me to share? Most popular wins. (A) Pendle Hill Incident (B) Footsteps (C) The Asylum Wing (D) The Letter H, or (E) The Whistling Woman. (All true stories! Ignore if not interested!)

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
Tell us about Pendle Hill please!
Long tine since I was there

And I'm vaguely aware of the legend but I'd like to know more.

What do you have as your phone's ringtone?

Sonething called "medieval dance", I actually can't find it online as it's very, erm, unique. :)

Do you enjoy watching movies/shows in foreign languages? If so, do you prefer to watch with subtitles or dubbed into your language? Can you recommend me some (preferably on Netflix) that you've enjoyed? If not, what about foreign entertainment turns you off?

AmericanLass’s Profile PhotoC.
Yes, I really like foreign films if I'm interested in the subject matter, a great way of seeing the world (Though they need to be subtitled so I can understand them, and I don't like films that are dubbed into English).
Some people don't like subtitled films because it's too much effort for them, though such people aren't going to get anything out of any film if they can't be bothered to pay attention.
To give a specific recommendation I'd need to know what your interests are and which language you want to learn, though I can recommend this to anyone :)

what do you consider your "miracle product", or the one product that really has made life better?

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
My levothyroxine tablet, it's miraculously restored my health and I would probably have died if I hadn't got onto the medication. I know I was ill long before I was diagnosed and I thus support charities that encourage awareness and treatment if the illness, more people should have regular blood tests for instance.
This is why, despite being a live and let live type generally, I fucking hate quacks, "natural", "alternative" and "faith" healers and "sceptics" of vaccinations. There are criticisms to be made of the medical system-they got my diagnosis wrong the first time so weeks were lost- but that shows it needs to be improved, not made worse.

I seriously support jailing all fuckers who lie along these lines, thus causing others to be ill & die.

What is the worst kind of suffering?

Syphira’s Profile PhotoSaphira
In my opinion, having someone you like/love be indifferent to you is the worst, apart from starvation or homelessness, as it's our basic need beyond animal survival.
And maybe a human hurts more than an animal?
"The worst sin toward our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them: that’s the essence of inhumanity" George Bernard Shaw

How are you doing today?

I'm good thanks, I'm heading to Nottingham to see Nick Cave tomorrow and hanging round with my friend I haven't seen for a year, then going on a solo tour around the area (my brother got married around there and when we dropped his friend off at the railway station in Newark, I vowed to go back there, and now I am!
I don't know if you've read this but it's out of this world, highly recommended and on my reading list because it takes place in the same city but in the 1950s (Which weren't as strait-laced as they pretended to be!)
