Freaky Friday is one of the only movies that comes to mind when I think of the remake being better than the original. What's a movie where you thought the remake was better than the original?

The Quiet American (1958) butchered Graham Greene’s vision for political reasons (although a cinemaphile himself, Greene was often badly treated by film makers who failed to understand his vision; The Heart of the Matter and The Power and the Glory are other cases).
The Quiet American (2002) is a far better film to see after reading the book!

Is it okay to send a happy birthday text to an ex? Even if they were toxic. I just want to be kind and maybe catch up but I'm not sure.

Yes, it’s ok to do that; you are showing that you’re a good, caring person. It certainly isn’t a bad thing to do.
But if they will react badly, it may be unwise; I don’t know your ex well enough to say, but if that isn’t a concern then do it!

If you go out for a meal do you know what you're going too order before getting there or do you decide there and then?

I read the menu and decide what I'll have, then tell my friend who is placing the order if that applies, or tell the waiter/waitress as soon as they come round, as I don't think it's fair to keep people waiting.

All of my previous questions today were inspired by the videogame Man Of Medan. If any of you want my Twitch handle to see my streams on it, let me know. Now for some less dreary questions. Are you happiest when you find something inexpensive worth a lot or when you pay a lot for something high-end?

There is an old Arab saying that the best way to make a poor man happy is to take away his camel, then give it back.
That is what I think when I lose something then find it again; I forget my other problems and reflect that at least it isn’t quite as bad as it would otherwise have been!

You're walking around inside somewhere and you see what appears to be a ghost.... Then one by one your four friends see and hear things too at different times. Are you more likely to think it's 1. real ghosts, 2. a gas leak, 3. black magic or 4. something like shared delusions such as Folie A Deux?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
Probably a shared hallucination like Fatima?
(As per your earlier question, it certainly isn’t a coincidence that sort of thing happens far more often in wartime or at times of great strain in society).

When on the Edinburgh City of the Dead tour, I did get a bad feeling like I had been bitten by insects, but it wore off so fast that I decided it was caused by my state of mind rather than any paranormal forces that had nothing better to do on a Friday night than sting people in Greyfriars Kirkyard.

During WWII 5million women went from working at home cooking, cleaning and raising children to working other jobs. This led to many women across the world taking on jobs and careers more often. If WWII never happened, how do you think that would have affected women wanting to work today?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
War is always the driver of revolutionary change, literally so in the cases of the French Revolution (France was trying to reform itself after pointlessly battling Britain for decades and butting into the American Revolution even though it should have been obvious to the ancien regime that they were bankrupting themselves and birthing a movement far more anti-them than the British monarchy was), the 1917 Russian revolution, the imposition of communism in Eastern Europe, and so on.
I agree that once women were used to working outside the home during two world wars, and rightly felt they had helped win the war, they would not go back to what sexist men insisted was their place.
Yes, such forces, once unleashed, could not be put back in the box! That is why women got the vote very soon after WW1. (Though interestingly, British politics was very stagnant and conservative in those times; women wanted a seat at the table but obviously very few wanted to kick the table over).

In WWII there was an alliance in a sense between Germany, Italy and Japan. For decades The US was anti-Japan as Pearl Harbour was what lead to The US joining the war. Today, what are some German, Italian and Japanese things Americans like and how do you think that history affected these opinions?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
I don’t know what Americans think but given that so many are ethnically Italian, German and Japanese then surely the culture has rubbed off, as has the food; pizza, bagels, sushi and what have you, as well as delicacies that have become local in areas such as the midwest.
I hope no one clings on to old prejudices as some thickos in Britain do with their bigotry against France, Germany and the anti-Irish racism which I hope you’ve never encountered, but which definitely exists.
And as to what is done in America, nothing definite but I hope to be going there in ‘22 (to San Fran!) and finding out.

If you had to give someone with low self esteem advice, what would you say and why?

qveenjvzz’s Profile Photoqveenjvzz
I can’t really give advice as I haven’t learned it myself?
What I would say is that others probably aren’t judging you as much as yourself, and you wouldn’t be as hard on a stranger as you are on yourself, so that is the thing to bear in mind. Though obviously this is easier said than done.

What kind of museum is the museum that's closest to where you live? Mine's an antique vacuum cleaner museum

The museum of my home city!
There are sections on the history of the city, nature in the area, the spitfire (which was designed here), the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia (the Staffordshire Hoard was found nearby), and above all, a world-class collection of ceramics, of which we’re the world capital!

Have you ever met someone really privileged who shocked you?

The few times I have met priviliged people, who went to private school and so on, I have been surprised by how little they know (and in most cases they don’t care) about what life for most people is like.
It takes a lot of empathy and far more time spent with the people they were taught to look down ion than is common. I often think the ones I haven’t met are worse than the ones I have, because they simply never meet oiks like me.
Politicians complain about the poor ‘underclass’ but what about the out of touch overclass?

Is there anyone in the leader board where you are that acts rude towards you due to seeing you as their competition?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
No, I’m not on the leaderboard afaik?
I do hope no fucker has ever done that to you. It is a shameful & bizarre thing to do? If they care that much they can raise their own game rather than trying to pull down others.

Hey folks! I just want ye all to know that I'm deleting most of my social media as I've started new pages. If anyone wants links or usernames let me know off anon! Happy holidays! <3
