Want to make more friends? Try this: Tell us what you like and find people with the same interests. Try this: + add more interests + add your interests

Do you challenge other people's authority or do you always accept it as a given? Why?

I'd like to say I use my great disinterested wisdom, following people's lead if they know a subject and have values I agree with and refusing to follow them if not.
But really I will just end up doing what my brother says to do. Once a younger sibling, etc!

What would be the most useless superpower?

Miraculously surviving a plane crash and finding land, only to find you have no food or water, would be pretty futile :)
What morbid thoughts we have when we go on planes and stand on top of volcanoes :)

Great lesson!!. I think that story would also show that we all have a purpose or place in life. Lowly sand was able to fill spaces that the all-important rocks couldn't. But yes, I like the reminder of priorities. So, now that you've shared the pebbles, what are the important "rocks" in your jar?

I don't know, I've tended not to be able to set priorities, I have a load of things I'd like to due few of which ever get done.
It's largely because the need to do things (work, notably) has to be put before things I want to do, which I know is part of life, but which shows for me that I've never made money out of my interests so I have to do things I'm not interested in to live.
I thought it was a worthy idea but I'm still trying to apply it to myself :)

Muhammad Ali said "It isn't the mountains ahead to climb that wear you down. It's the pebble in your shoe". What are some of the "pebbles"-- the small obstacles-- that you struggle with?

Pointlessly stressing myself out over things that don't matter is my soeciality, I have to say!
I love that quote, it's so me. On a slightly related note, have you seen this?

What constitutes online etiquette, in your opinion? Is online etiquette important for you?

It's difficult to tell, for example people say "don't say what you wouldn't say in person" but I disagree because political dissidents, whistleblowers and LGBT people in a lot of places need the protection of anonymity.
So all I can think of is:
1. Don't speak to people who've indicated they don't want to be spoken to
2. Don't be a dick.
3. You can always ask me questions, I welcome anons and anyone who's a good person and asks intelligent questions like this one.
I haven't really thought about it, though :)

How well do you cope with crisis (be it professional, mental or otherwise) and what are the coping mechanisms that help you to regain stability?

I like to walk (sometimes cycle) and let it all out that way, especially climbing hills where I can feel the problem is being left behind and I'm climbing away from it.
"Solvitor ambulando" :)

This is my dad climbing up a famous hill called Winter Hill in a similar way, I made a calendar for my family and friends and this is the October entry, somehow I found it had a significance I can't quite express but hopefully you'll see.
How well do you cope with crisis be it professional mental or otherwise and what

If you got offered a reset button for your life, would you take it? Give up all you've seen and done and learned-- successes and failures-- to chance getting a better life in the next toss of the dice?

I don't know but,

Many things I thought of then,
Battle, and the loves of men,
Cities entered, oceans crossed,
Knowledge gained and virtue lost,
Cureless folly done and said,
And the lovely way that led
To the slimepit and the mire
And the everlasting fire.

If you use Facebook or other social media, what do you do when you see a friend or family member post something that you know isn't true-- political propaganda or hoaxes, for example? Do you correct them or just let it be?

I must say, I'm a fan of unfriending and- even better, since it doesn't offend them- simply blocking someone's updates fron my feed. An especially rancid organisation called Britain First smuggles ultra-right content beneath a facade of "patriotism", "loyalism" and concern for good causes, and I question the sense of anyone who shares them unthinkingly- but I don't bother, my own life is bad enough ithout making it worse by arguing with idiots.
So I just un-read their updates without actually unfollowing them, it saves all round :)

are you a vegetarian

You will find me drinking rum,
Like a sailor in a slum,
You will find me drinking beer like a Bavarian
You will find me drinking gin
In the lowest kind of inn
Because I am a rigid Vegetarian.

What is the most interesting invention?

This is an excellent question that at least one interesting answer has been given to.
I'm off to visit my brother in Singapore in a week and I remember its founding father, Lee Kuan Yew, was asked for the most significant invention of the 20th century, he said air conditioning.
http://www.economist.com/news/asia/leekuanyew
The writer of that article diesn't consider it seriously, but how else would such a swelteringly hot country-or the Sun Belt of the USA- keep up with cooler places? What would the world look like if the productive capacity of millions of people was wasted in sweat? Ever since I've been fascinated by the idea.
Though I'm actually going to have to sleep in a room without aircon, I'm not looking forward to that :(
