Would you tell us what Attingham Park was like after you've been there? It looks like a fascinating place to visit.

Yes it was fascinating, a proper old 18th-century pile that's been sensitively maintained.

What was fascinating is that the lives of the family (one was ambassador to Naples, several were soldiers, and the house was a hospital during World War 1) are implanted here, and the ruin of the former house literally still exists embedded into the new house!

In the area where you live there any news reports or legends of strange local creatures? In my region, particularly to the north of us, there are quite a few, including T'owd Lad in his Black Dog form, but locally we currently have a scare involving a werewolf (!) called Old Stinker. [Doug]

You can find plenty of those at closing time outside the pub if you dare ;)
I'm sadly not aware of any local legends of the kind you describe but have you seen this, it's fascinating.

What do you have planned for the week?

StephenInd’s Profile PhotoStephen Ind
Sadly a lot more work.
"Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too
Thursday, I don't care about you"
And a Friday worse than the singer presumably had. But I hope at the weekend to do this!
https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/attingham-park
It is a fascinating 18th-century home that I've enjoyed before and hope to have even more fun when the bluebells are out in the garden
Keep looking at http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/photos as I'm posting up my favourite old photoshoots and some new ones when I can find time to take them (most recently last Wednesday).
What do you have planned for the week

When is the last time you stayed home from school/work sick? Do you do so often? I'm considering calling out tomorrow because these allergies are kicking my butt real bad!

AmericanLass’s Profile PhotoC.
I left school in 2003, graduated university in 2006 ;)
I do confess though, on snow days when I hear reports of school closures on the radio, despite being 32 I still cross my fingers that "we" will be closed. Then I think it doesn't matter if my old school is closed since I haven't been there for 14 years :)
I can't give you advice as I don't know your school's policies, many schools are too bothered about attendence even if you can sometimes learn by yourself. So if you think you can learn your lesson at home & your school isn't too anal about insisting on "presenteeism"
https://hbr.org/2004/10/presenteeism-at-work-but-out-of-it
Then leave it!
And I hope you recover.

So it's Walpurgisnicht tonight, and Beltane tomorrow for me, in the UK it's MayDay, and in much of Europe Labour Day, and in the USA this weird new "Loyalty Day" thing. What are your various plans for tomorrow, wherever in the world you are? [Doug]

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
I went camping at Hulme End in the Staffordshire Moorlands. There was no wifi, hence the delayed response :)
Didn't take any pictures but I had a good time with my family & friends, this is the same place in January.

Have you seen any good movies recently?

StephenInd’s Profile PhotoStephen Ind
How are you doing Stephen?
I'm sorry for not answering this question but when I received it, I knew I'd be answering about a particular film that I've only just got round to watching.
http://observer.com/2000/01/thriller-of-the-century-the-third-man/
It's terrific, what makes it so good is that Graham Greene not only was a fantastic author, he also loved cinema and wrote his books with one eye on the film adaptation. So I look forward to watching other films of his books, several of which I love.
I recommend that you read this author & watch the films, starting here.

What do you do with old memories/memorabilia connected to people that you're no longer involved with? I keep letters, photos, small treasures etc from previous relationships. I have a friend however who cuts people out of photos when they're no longer in her life. What do you do with such things?

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
I try, generally without success, to forget them.
As my girlfriend lives a long way away & I don't see her as often as I'd like I often have a vague nostalgia fest and if I'm honest people and places often blur into one.

What is it about a stranger that tends to draw you in the most? Tell me about some of your favorite physical and non-physical traits/characteristics in other people? Do you have any of those traits yourself?

AmericanLass’s Profile PhotoC.
I don't know, but I knew I liked my girlfriend when I met her online (not on a dating site, I've never used one of those) and when I met her in person. To this day I don't know quite what it is and still less why she likes me but
"I knew right away, she was not like other girls"

You seem to have a fairly varied music taste! I listened to the first few pages from your link and I'm liking most of it; what makes you decide whether you like a song or not?

AmericanLass’s Profile PhotoC.
I don't know!
My roots are in heavy metal and that's what I listen to mostly but I may or may not like other things.
When I was laying down the foundations for my music I was on last.fm and the algorithm of "people who like x also like y" was very useful, that and reading about my music and finding who influenced who, then going back to the roots.
For example, in my metal (especially doom metal) Black Sabbath are obviously the main influence but various bands stated they were inspired by Hawkwind, so I decided to listen to Hawkwind and, no surprise, I liked them.
So I recommend reading interviews erc with your bands, finding recommendations on Youtube and Spotify (so long as they don't bother you with adverts, they can be a good sophisticated means of getting recommendations), etc.

What is your opinion on these new AskFM "this v that" picture polls? Personally I've rarely found any interesting or relevant enough (to me personally) to vote on, plus they seem to take up half my timeline leaving less room to display friends' answers. You might like them, though! Thoughts? [Doug]

I ask this every so often because I get bored with my music & like to expand my library, so, if you had your own radio station with a Top 5 playlist, what would be on it? This can be your 5 favorites, last 5 you listened to, 5 most frequently played, any 5 songs!

AmericanLass’s Profile PhotoC.
I don't want to list 5 but here's what I grooved to today.

I listen to my record collection from A to Z, and back again once I've finished, I'm very organised. If I hear about something and want to try it out on Spotify it goes into the rotation in that sense.

What’s the best place to go to, when you want to be alone and enjoy solitude?

Alderley Edge!

If you like Alan Garner, and f not I hope you discover him when you go to the edge.
"They left the shimmering road for the green wood, and The Wizard was soon lost behind them as they walked among fir and pine, oak, ash, and silver birch, along tracks through bracken, and across sleek hummocks of grass. There was no end to the peace and beauty. And then, abruptly, they came upon a stretch of rock and sand from which the heat vibrated as if from an oven."

It’s World Museum Day! What is so outdated that it should be put in a museum?

I'll tell you what is in a museum fam, a picture for Passover!
The Birmingham museum is fantastic, here it is.

21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
23 And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

What do you like about movie " Tangerines"? By the way, I am from Estonia :D

Welcome to my site :)
I like the way Ahmed and Nika are, in spite of themselves, forced to make peace in spite of themselves, and the role Ivo plays in the reconciliation. And the fact that I knew nothing about these events, so the film taught me about that time.
I've just come back from church for Easter and it seemed appropriate!

Can you badly describe a movie you've really enjoyed that never 'made it big'? Feel free to include or exclude the title of the film as well if you'd like.

AmericanLass’s Profile PhotoC.
I like subtitled films and I'm dismayed when people don't watch them, apparently it requires too much concentration?
I thought concentrating was the point!?
There are so many, if I can only mention one this filmabout war and peace (a war most of us never heard of in the first place) is outstanding.

I did this "what type of feminist are you" quiz out of interest and my score imo shows I'm a CIS male still fully trying to get to grips with important ideas. If you do it, what do you think of your result? http://www.celebritytypes.com/feminism-5/result.php?trad=30&lib=65&radic=61&marx=68&cult=64

I don't think I'm as "traditional" as all that?
But I agree that I'm closest to the liberal, Millicent Fawcett-esque school of thought, than anything you'll find in third-wave feminism or on Tumblr.
Also my results are a bit skewed by the fact that I hardly answered "strongly agree" or "stronly disagree" to anything, that's just me.

I know very little of Houseman or his background but in the interpretation of the poetry of Houseman in https://hokku.wordpress.com/2011/04/24/housmans-easter-hymn/ is there not a bias given to unbelief? Could one not interpret his works more positively for the existence of God?

StephenInd’s Profile PhotoStephen Ind
AE Housman was an atheist but he was, in spite of himself, very much a cultural Christian like me, that poem is obviously religious in its symbolism and quotes from the Book of Common Prayer.
Of course, a Christian would say that the good thing about the second verse is that it comestrue, so it could be interpreted that way, I suppose? The whole idea is that God's grace can work even through unbelievers so it could be seen that way.
I don't know what it is about this poet that resonates with me but I recommend you look for his completed poetry, it's only 177 pages long and it's fascinating.
The idea that he lived in a Christian universe but was (perhaps by himself?) excluded from it.
