What myths and legends do you find most interesting?

I haven't been able to find the story anywhere! But when I was very young, about 5-6, I read a story about a spoiled young prince who had everything he could possibly want.
One day, the prince saw a poor young shepherd boy playing a flute, and producing the most beautiful music he'd ever heard. But rather than enjoying the tune, the prince was seized by jealousy that a mere peasant could posess a thing of beauty.
So the prince seized the flute from the boy, and played it, but no sound came out.
And I do think that is a wise lesson in life, probably even wiser if anyone can find the original source rather than my fading recollection of it?

What, if anything, can you be a lil' snobby about? I can be an art snob I'll admit it.

I'm a 'snob' in that I don't like stupid people or, much worse, people who have brains but won't use them. Though this isn't snobbery as such, as in the information age anyone can find out about basic things given some minimum of effort.

If you had to pick up a print magazine subscription what would you choose?

The London Review of Books! I already subscribe but if it were offered free I wouldn't say no.

How old are you and do you have a crush on someone?

I'm 34 and I know I'm a bit too old for crushes but I've always loved Nadine, since I first saw her in 2002. I used to get drunk (underage!) to the tune of the sound of the underground and I listened to no good advice when I got preloaded in my first year at university.
And not just that, but I understand her becaue the milieu I grew up in was quite similar to hers, born in the same year, both Catholics, with the same points of reference. So that deepens the bond between us in a way that people who've just glanced at her on the tv can't understand.
Yes, and some of the young bleeders who just saw her in that TV programme she was in (which I didn't watch) weren't even born at the time.

do you know if coffeehymn is ok? i really miss her on here :(

I also miss her, and don't know where she is sadly. I hope she just decided to log off, which is understandable, rather than being ill or something.

If you had to use an emblem as a form of identification rather than, say, a signature, what would your emblem look like/consist of?

? Are you any good at wrapping gifts? Do you end up with very neat-looking parcels or messy-looking ones? (I’m definitely in the messy category here).

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
I can't wrap gifts but I can choose them!
My 23 year old colleague is going travelling for 18 months to Nepal, China, and Japan so I bought him this.

Do you know the etymology of the word travel?

To return to the main question, I find it hard to do secret santa as they are so badly wrapped they're obviously from me! So no disguising unless anonymous bags are brought in.
