Tesco is now the first supermarket here to produce plasters/bandaids for many skin tones. What's your opinion? Is it better/worse than only supplying translucent ones? Is it a step in the right direction to make poc feel more included or are the translucent ones best for all? Is it anti/racist?

I agree with it as people of all skin colours should have 'flesh coloured' tights, knickers etc.
And if someone uses a plaster to apply medicine or contraceptives then they need to be discreet about that, which beige plasters are not for many people.
I heard about it on the radio. I'm not following it as I've only heard one mention of it, but I do hope conservatives/boomers will make some kind of effort to understand instead of being offended and thinking it's some personal attack on tgem, as they do with most things.

Do you think it’s possible for a person to have a solid moral grounding without subscribing to a religion? Do you think an atheist has to believe in nothing at all (including things beyond religion) simply because they don’t follow organized religion or believe in a higher being?

One can be a good and moral person by following the golden rule; thus, a Christian, Muslim, atheist or anything else.
I suppose that one can be an atheist in terms of thinking that a personal god exists but believe that consciousness survives teh death of the body, or that there are extraterrestrial beings or something.
Have you read The Perennial Philosophy by Aldous Huxley? I would recommend it as, while I don't know much about these things, Huxley was an expert on them and while he modestly said that the saints and geniuses he quotes wrote the book rather than him, he wove it together through the brilliance of his mind which can understand such things.
The most important thing, and one I admittedly struggle with myself, is the need for humility.

What do you wish you were doing right now?

On a walk!
Not on some remote hillside, but further exploring the area I live in.
On yesterday's walk,

I covered a lot of ground but slightly further along is a place I haven't visited for over 3 years and would like to go back to.
Beats sitting in a hotel reception (not a guest, just using their wifi) near work, waiting untilmy shift starts!

What's your favorite veggie?

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
Hard to decide just one but I cooked parsnip soup yesterday and it was really first-class. They are also good roasted or curried, and go well with cumin, fennel & other things, so I'll go with them for now!

Do you enjoy philosophical discussions?

Yes, my friend is a university lecturer and we enjoy setting the world to rights and discussing world events and ideas.
Sadly, not enough such discussions take place as I am obliged to spend most of my time with my work colleagues.

Thinking about my Appalachian grandma today- do you know what "holler" means? How about "yonder"? "Jake"? Do you know what a "crick" is?

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
I have an idea of what all those words mean, apart from Jake, both because they are similar to Standard English words and from hearing country/folk songs.

I was listening to this when walking in a wood the other day and seeing a holloway, as above.
