Everyone's somewhat hypocritical in some way. For example, some consider me to be hypocritical because I'm vegan but I enjoy seeing taxidermied animals who passed away naturally, fossils etc. because I find it all fascinating even though they're all dead animals. Name some ways you're hypocritical.

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
I suppose I am hypocritical in failing to live up to the environmental ideal, but I don't go in for this line of criticism.
Generally, an accusation of hypocrisy is made by people (especially but not only conservatives) who want to discredit everyone, "prove" that everyone is the same and acts from the same motives as them, and basically no one should so much as try to change things for the better as it's never going to happen.
Whereas I think good things can be done, even if not perfect, and everyone who is trying to do something good should be supported in doing better.
Lots of people don't understand my tree planting work

And it makes me sad that I get blank stares in response, but I still do it even though I'm far from perfect and I know why.
The first group of people came in 1991 and had to fence their trees off to guard against deer. I took the enclosed picture in 2016. Now look at both sides of the fence and think about how proud I am and how optimistic about being a small part of that movement, even if I'm not Francis of Assissi I am doing things as me and ignoring the naysayers.

In part of Ireland it's still legal for an Irish man to kill an English man using a longbow. It's also still legal for a husband to hit his wife if the stick is thinner than his thumb. What's a ridiculous law from where you're from?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
I believe there's a law against cycling on pavements, which is absurd as a blanket law and I often break it myself.
If they brought in more cycle lanes is ok, but cycling on the road is dangerous and often holds up traffic pointlessly. I do think, if there are no pedestrians (and there generally are none in the areas where I take the bus, held up by cyclists) then the cyclist should simply go on the pavement.
This isn't a substitute for proper cycle lanes but at least avoid making it worse.

Btw, I'm going through the list of who I follow. If you'd like me to continue following you, answer this with "follow". I'll unfollow anyone who doesn't answer but also those who answer differently as I don't want my questions to be used as filler unless otherwise stated.

Do you believe that dreams can sometimes predict the future?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
No, except insofar as they illuminate the present and make people see things as they are and decide to change course. But that isn't the same as a prediction?

Does lard still exist in your kitchen at home? Our fridge always has blocks of lard in it for cooking with. I don’t find it necessary, myself.

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
I am without lard!
Pig fat on bread, unappetising as it sounds, was actually widely sought after as it gave a nourishing cheap meal to miners, farm labourers, and others who needed vast amounts of strength.
But I suppose it's died out in this country as I never use it in my kitchen nor do I know anyone who does.

Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
I read one book at a time listening to the audiobook when walking/cycling and then when I sit down, resuming reading the book at the point I'd got to, so the reading as a whole is ongoing :)
At the moment I'm branching out of my normal interests (mainly history) and reading an excellent science fiction book from an author who always delivers.

The word "bad" began as a derogatory word in old English for an effeminate man. Choose a word and tell me something about it's history, origin or any fact you know about it.

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
The word biscuit comes (like many English words) from an old French word meaning twice baked, referring to the process of cooking medieval biscuits.
Incidentally, my favourite biscuit is Abernethy, which I eat once a year, after my yearly Scotland trip.

What small gesture from a stranger made a big impact on you?

The last time I went here, a few months ago, I didn't notice the bus timetables had changed so faced a huge walk (more than 5 miles on top of a day's walking) or several hours wait, when someone gave me a lift.

He didn't have to do that and I knew he would be mortally offended by being offered money, and of course I had none anyway, so I lit a candle and prayed for someone to help this person as he helped me.
Another time, I was stuck in a very remote part of Wales
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain
When my dad's car almost ran out of petrol as we'd miscalculated the amount we need (it gave a distance in miles but that was only for flat land, so on hills the petrol almost ran out driving less than the distance we thought we had) and some people directed us to the petrol station, without which we've broken down.
Again, nothing in it for them but they did it because it was in their hearts to do so.

Which is your favorite pair of shoes? PAP!

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
I have 4 pairs of shoes.
Boots
Trainers which are strong and can be walked in
Smart-casual shoes but which are uncomfortable but which I wear on nights out etc
Work shoes
I don't actually like any of them as such, they're just there so as not to get blisters?

Swimming pool, river, lake, sea, ocean - where do you prefer to swim?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
Lakes or rivers are best for me, then seas, I don't much like pools but it can be good if there's nowhere else to swim as water is good.
Have you read the book Waterlog by Roger Deakin if you like outdoor swimming? I highly recommend it.
The place I go to in the Highlands of Scotland is so remote it has no mains water, so obviously no showers! We bathe here, downstream of the place we get drinking water from obvs :)

Are you a very ambitious person?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
Not in career terms. My goal is to do as much for the planet as possible so I'm looking forward to https://treesforlife.org.uk/volunteer/conservation-weeks/accommodation/athnamulloch-cottage/
This is me and my brothers and sisters in arms, returning froma day's work on the hillside. If I were some businessman working 90 hours a week, or a lawyer, how could I possibly feel as rich as I did when I surveyed the wealth around me that day in the Highlands?
