Who's your favourite artist?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
Edward Burne Jones, ever since seeing the collection of pre-Raphaelites in Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery when my girlfriend lived there (she later went back to live with her parents and I’ve visited her there once and met in Birmingham once since lockdown began, so a bit unhappy about that now).
Anyway, the beauty of Burne-Jones is that you can not only see his excellent paintings, like the Star of Bethlehem, but in the Anglican cathedral (itself a fine 18th century building, which I appreciate even though my tastes are mainly gothic) you can see his work ‘live’, in the stained glass windows.
PS I added you on Twitter though I didn’t respond to your message on here in order to keep it private. I know my posts are mainly #fbpe stuff that won’t interest everyone, but that’s what I feel the need to talk about. And the picture

I put my drink in the freezer to cool it down faster, set an alarm so I wouldn’t forget, shut off the alarm when it dinged, and then forgot my drink in the freezer anyway. What’s your worst habit?

Hey folks! I set up an art page recently! If any of you have an interest in digital and/or traditional art and would like to see, let me know.

Yes, I’d certainly be interested in your art, if you’d tell me where it can be found!

Which are the worst/most difficult companies or organisations you have to deal with regularly? My top three are 1. ? My phone/telecoms company; 2. ? The government’s Department of Work and Pensions; 3. ? My bank. I try to avoid interacting with them (inc via tech) unless absolutely necessary!

Thankfully I’ve escaped the DWP‘S clutches but I’ll never forget how impersonal & hopeless their system is, You can count on my full support :(

Do you ever think there could be a world leader that has power over all countries? Would that unite people or divide them?

Adham5l5’s Profile Photoa.
No, certainly not. I’d suggest reading Mission Accomplished by Simon Jenkins to answer this and the war question at the same time.
He is a fine writer, and unlike me and most others doesn’t need to be embarrassed at what he said in the past. The critique of armchair strategists & keyboard commandos is searing.

Today is Women's Equality Day! Who do you think is the greatest woman in history?

Aethelflaed, Lady of the Mercians!
You would certainly not be writing these words, sitting in comfort, if not for her achievements!
Here she is at Tamworth! Was Hail to the lady!

Storms seem to be hitting everywhere right now, so quick check in. Everyone safe, warm and dry? Any sightings of rampaging trampolines yet?

Thank you for asking!
I’m alive and well, hoping the storm ends by weekend so I can cycle to Delamere Forest.

What's one thing you want to be remembered for?

introgeeky’s Profile PhotoGeekette
I’d want to be remembered for my trees!
Each year (not this year, due to covid) I go to the Highlands of Scotland with https://treesforlife.org.uk/ and plant trees.
Living in a house for a week with 11 people (most of whom I hadn’t met before the week, though often people from last year come back and i see them again), working outside and running the house and cooking, cleaning etc together, no mobile signal or wifi, bathing in the stream, it’s a different world and I can’t wait to be back there in 2021!
Because of overgrazing by deer, the forest has been depleted and new plantations have to be fenced off.
The first group came in 1991 and planted these trees; look at the difference on both sides of the fence, and that’s what I work for!
When I say I want to be remembered, I don’t mind if i’m personally forgotten as long as the trees are still there! Maybe a hundred years from now, people will assume the trees were always there, and not know that they almost died out and had to be restored.

Ok, I realise this is a bit of a dodgy question, but I've just used some stuff for headaches and now I smell awesome. So what do you smell like today?

Palmolive milk & honey hand wash.

If you could eliminate any word from the dictionary, meaning no one can ever use it again, what word would you choose?

I’d outlaw starting sentences with so, and ban anyone from saying ‘like’ more than once in a sentence, or saying ‘I was like...’ ever.
We speak the English language, not the American language.

What was the last book you read? Is it worth recommending?

introgeeky’s Profile PhotoGeekette
A Gun For Sale by Graham Greene, my favourite author.
No spoilers but it’s not only superb, it gives a real insight into what people thought in 1936, and is rather uncomfortable in parts given what we know happened next, but Greene and most of his readers didn’t.
By 1938 Greene had changed his mind, as had many others, so this book is not only a great thriller but a snapshot of public opinion in the 30s and I certainly would recommend.

What are some challenges you think the next generation will face?

Adham5l5’s Profile Photoa.
The housing crisis, inequality, the climate emergency, and culture wars started by boomers/gammons/karen’s that are designed to make their lives worse.
I think young people are grand, and hope they sort these problems out in the way generation x & millennials haven’t done!
Here are some young people having a go, in edinburgh last year! Good luck to them!

Can you cook? If so, what's your favorite dish to prepare?

Adham5l5’s Profile Photoa.
My fish curry (mackerel) crowns my kitchen.
Can do a lentil & chickpea curry for the vegans though I don’t think this is as good as the above?
