What is some common slang (and its meaning!) in your native language/state/country or any other you’re very familiar with?

AmericanLass’s Profile PhotoC.
I like Scottish words, like "throbber" (work this one out for yourself!) and "getting off at Haymarket" (on many railway lines in Scotland, Haymarket is the stop just before Edinburgh, so it's used as a euphemism for... well maybe you can guess).

Do you agree, or disagree with this quote? “WAR is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.”

Yes, I do.
It always baffles me why conservatives have such a hardon for war, when it always brings radical & transformative change for the worse. (Why do they also- while claiming to be fighting extremism, and vilifying ordinary working-class Muslims, support Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Bahrain etc).
Read this statement by someone who, while I often disagree with him, has certainly figured this one out.

You can add to this the Libya debacle and the shame and disgrace of the orangeman's support for Saudi atrocities in Yemen.
Sad!

I can’t wait until I move to Israel, I won’t have to live amongst you filthy goy anymore who’ve made my life nothing but a misery.

What will you do in Israel, given that you have nothing to offer?
Do you think Benjamin Netanyahu will let you live on benefits the way we do?

Which cuisine is your favorite? Have you ever traveled to the place of it's origin?

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
Well it depends, as I said in my previous answer, my last meal would be very much an old-time English meal (of the kind that isn't eaten particularly often in England, actually).
But if I were to only eat one cuisine for a month, it would have to be Singaporean, I'm pleased to say I've been there.

And it's almost as if it were several cuisines rolled into one, as like so many former colonies (think of the former Austro-Hungarian or Ottoman lands, where the food is sumptuous) it's a blend of lost of influences.
Kaya toast for breakfast, chicken rice for lunch

Curry for dinner? Roti prata? Whenever it feels right :)
And what's for dessert, I often eat ice cream or a European dessert as there isn't much of a Chinese or Malay dessert culture that I could see, but you could always try this

How good are you at making small talk?

Given that I'm not only an introvert but INTJ, I'm actually quite good at this, or at least think I am & don't mind it.
It's prolonged socialisation with stupid people that bothers me, but I like chatting to interesting people & have no problems with it, I hope they like shootin' the breeze with me too.

Will intelligent machines take over most of our jobs in the future? If so, how are we going to earn money?

An excellent question to which I have no idea what the answer would be :)
Worth considering is that every new technology causes unemployment but generally, new jobs are found; there isn't mass unemployment in well-run countries, and where there are problems with unemployment it's generally due to bad government; Zimbabwe, for instance.
I do think that the concept of a basic income should be explored, look at http://basicincome.org/basic-income/ if you're interested.

In the USA and increasingly in the UK, military service people are referred to formally and informally as “heroes” by the public and media, regardless of whether or not the individual has been on active service. What are your feelings in this, if any? What’s your personal definition of “hero”?

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
I agree that it's heroic to put one's life on the line, I obiously disagree with what politicians order them to do and despise right-wing fucks who "support our troops" hypocritically, but tha's because I'm angry at the betrayal of heroism by bLiar, Darth Cheney, Murdoc, Shameron and other conservative arseholes.
So I do have great respect for servicemen, of whom I know several.
Let the legend have the last word (Rudyard Kipling called this the best war poem he'd ever read)

Drumpf is playing you like a fiddle and you're a fucking idiot, not only for supporting Britan First, but for imagining Drumpf on your side.
The whole thing has been orchestated to appeal to people like you, and draw outrage from the left, making you imagine things are going your way, when i. fact people like Jared Kushner continue to wield the real power.

I bought some coffee on sale and it tastes like hot vomit. What is something little that's really disappointed you recently?

In my weekend job, we are supposed to get 10 minutes eye break an hour, but we got less than that.
It might not sound like much but given that the job is very repetitive data entry we needed thise breaks, ans given that I've done the job every Christmas for the past 11 years I don't know why I had to soend so much time in training anyway. I was better than everyone else at the training so why couldn't I go at a more relaxed pace, given that I'd still do more work than most?
Again, it seems petty but the resulting tiredness left a mark on Monday in my day job, for no good reason.

If the plural of foot is feet, why isn't the plural of boot: beet?

Do you think Mat Crawford has fukt himself this time? (sssh! Don't tell!)

Well I don't see any way back to Ambridge for him, I think he may survive and do some small-time scam in Costa Rica or somewhere else but he knows he's lost what he really wanted & the efforts of the good part of him have been outweighed by the evil, like he just has to carry on being evil whether his higher self wants that or not.
Have you read Doors Open by Ian Rankin? My suspicion is his ending will be like the end of that.

Is it normal that my face goes red with anger and I have flashbacks when I hear an Eastern European accent? I know I have to let what happened to me go and I’m trying to, I never act on my anger when I hear Eastern European accents, I just bottle it up but I get flashbacks.

I have a zero tolerance approach for violent against me committed by women, when I was a young teenager I use to get carelessly assaulted by women all the time but now I don’t tolerate it, if a woman even just pushes me I will defend myself with a punch.
