Which is worse, being too hot or too cold?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
At the moment, being too hot as it's a daily occurence. While being cold can be dealt with by wearing more clothes, what exactly do you do when sweating at home, short of buying aircon or a fan which I'm reluctant to do because of the expense?
So now and at other times being too hot is the problem I'd identify.

Have you ever been rude to someone and you didn't mean it? What did you do after that?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
Not yet, though I' sure I'm on the brink of telling my co-workers what I think about them!
It's true there are about 3 people I really don't get on with because there is a personality clash. I'm not saying they are bad people, just people whose way of thinking & behaving is so different to mine, I would have nothing to do with them if I didn't have to.
And spending 40 hours a week with people I have nothing in common with except that we all need our wages, such differences are magnified.
But the eruption hasn't happened yet, mainly because I'm too far down the food chain to get away with it!

What was the last gift you gave someone?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
Gave my brother & sister in law a signed copy of this book :)
https://www.emmabridgewater.co.uk/products/pattern-by-emma-bridgewater-paperback-book
They had been living in Singapore for 9 years but they're back now, and I bought this book because I was at a literary festival in Emma Bridgewater's factory and hoped I'd see her around, which I did!
So she signed it Dear (real name), welcome home, Emma Bridgewater.
A good day's work, I feel, and I look forward to presenting it tonight :)

Going on a walking tour at Bank Holiday.

This will be done to the tune of an audiobook about the industrial revolution so the learning won't stop!

Several places I've long wanted to see, like the war memorial at Crich, will be taken in so it will be a good trip ending in Derby, which is a great city.
Somewhat marred by having to take the inevitable train to work on Tuesday morning but still, a great plan!

PAP if a throwback/memory!

August 2015, I think this picture is the epitome of me.
Out in the outdoors enjoying nature but a bit shy and hidey when someone approaches. It wasn't designed that way but that's just how it came out.

What’s your favorite spot in the city where you live?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
Cycling up to the highest point in the city.
https://www.visitstoke.co.uk/see-and-do/park-hall-country-park-p737121
The views it commands are unsurpassed. I'd rather see the view from here than some great mountain in another place, as I know all the places I'm looking at. From here you can look over to a spot that's always fascinated me.

How do you discover new music to listen?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
I read about the bands on wikipedia, see who they were inspired by and which other bands their members were in, etc.
I learnt a lot when I was on last.fm even though I'm no longer there. For instance, it's reasonable to say that people who like Iron Maiden will also like Saxon, and people who like Led Zeppelin will also like Deep Purple, so it's good to get recommendations based on the algorithm.
Although I buy my records, I greatly value Spotify as a way of helping decide whether a record is worth buying. And when I hear a song that I discover is a cover version, I seek out the original.
I'm very open to new discoveries, because I have great confidence in my algorithms to help find something I'll like. Occasionally I hear new bad stuff but almost all good stuff.
My own wise advice is to be found at http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/music

What is your middle name(s)?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
My real middle name is Thomas as when I was confirmed I adopted the name after Thomas Aquinas.
Also I have taken on the name Chad in honour of the legendary saint who was the first Bishop of Lichfield and was one of the patrons of https://twosaintsway.org.uk/ which is the first ever long distance walk I did.

Which word or phrase annoys you the most?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
Starting sentences with so.
Overuse of like, especially 'I was like x, he was like y, she was like z'
(There used to be a repectable northern English working-class tradition of ending sentences with like; this is still acceptable, though I've stopped doing it myself to avoid confusion with this new rash of saying like at all times'
The phrase 'the reason being is x' (correct usage would be 'the reason being, x' or 'the reason is x'
Basically, I like traditional accents and dialects but not the new rash of Americanisms. Because I speak the English language, not the American language.

What was the first novel on which you spent your money on??

My pocket money was spent on Sharpe's Company by Bernard Cornwell when I was 12!
Before that my parents would occasionally buy books but as they were more expensive in those days, before online selling took off, I would more likely use the library, which I still proudly do today.
It was an inspired choice as it's an account of a fascinating part of history written by the master storyteller and the film starring Sean Bean is also excellent.

Most of you who I follow are from other continents and countries so, have you ever watched Irish comedy like Hardy Bucks, Derry Girls, Father Ted, Killinaskully, Moone Boy, D'Telly? If so, what ones have you watched and what ones are your favourite?(Including ones I haven't mentioned)

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
I'm afraid I haven't; I know Father Ted had crossover appeal but I've never actually watched it, or any other Irish programme.
As you probably guessed, Britain and Ireland have become more foreign to each other over the years and that's regrettable to me, but true.
There is my wife* though, as she is from the United Kingdom but culturally Irish and that's good.

My country has very varied accents that depend on what county you're from so I usually tell people my accent is like a mix of Call Me Kevin from YouTube and Eddie from Hardy Bucks. Who are some people your followers could look up who have similar accents to you?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
Robbie Williams; he actually went to the same school as me, though he's more than a decade older so we've never met.
(Though when my granddad was a bricklayer he worked on Robbie's mum's house without knowing who he was or why all the young, attractive women were hanging round!)
His accent has slightly faded but he is still the most famous potter I can think of and is obviously one of us.

What's the furthest from home you've been?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
Geographically, when I visited my brother in his former home.
http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/singapore
I probably won't go there again as it's too expensive to pay for a hotel as well as the flights now that I can no longer stay at my brother's house.
There is a place that feels much further away, in that the life there is totally alien to my workaday life and it's so remote from anything (there isn't even running water; we bathe and drink from a stream, thankfully the bathing downstream from the drinking (!) and you can forget all about being connected to anything).
That is the place I've been to three times and will go back to this September, and is now my favourite place not in spite of but because of the rawness of life there.

Yes, I look forward to planting my trees and hopefully walking the Affric Kintail Way to the sea!
