? How are you doing today? ? What’s the most recent bit of news you’ve received that you’d like to share?

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
Bit of sad but hopefully not too sad news.
https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/stoke-on-trent-news/stoke-trent-woman-rescued-airlifted-2759359
This was my aunt and I was there, it was nerve-racking sprinting to the youth hostel to meet the first responder (who had left by the time I got there).
But she was conscious throughout, and isn't terribly injured, so hopefully will have a fast recovery. There were about 20 or more rescue people there and I applaud their service, which I think has saved the day.

?? How much of an effort do you make to read the answers people give you to questions you’ve asked? ?? Do you acknowledge answers people give you by liking/flaming them, or do you reserve that just for answers you like or agree with?

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
Yes, I always read them as I'm interested in people's thoughts and I think I follow an excellent group of people.

I give likes to things which I agree with and/or which are interesting, and flames to things which are especially so.

Ask.fm now has a new feature where you can choose the colour of your answer. Answer this with your favourite colour from the options available and tell me what you think of this feature.

Blue, blue, electric blue :)

I actually think the feature is a load of bollocks and will affect people with bad wifi but I'm playing with it for a few miliseconds.

Today I found out that I've saved 2.4k lives, 50k pounds of CO2, 73k square feet of forest, 110k pounds of grain and 2.6million gallons of water from my lifestyle choices in recent years & I'm ecstatic about it but there's more to do. Answer this with a pic of your favourite landscape or animal.???

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
Admirable!
My favourite landscape is that of the Highlands of Scotland, hopefully soon to be afforested by https://treesforlife.org.uk/ . I'm riding out with them again in September. This is us returning from our work one evening.

In your own personal opinion when people eat fish, do you see that as the same as eating other animals like cows, chicken etc? Why/Why not?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
Yes, I think it's the same. If people choose to be pescetarians they can, but the argument saying fish are different to (presumably lesser than) other animals doesn't really add up.

What are your plans for spring-summer?

Going to Torun in Poland which is where my granddad originally came from, I'm reading several books about Polish history (start with Poland:A History by Adam Zamoyski) and getting informed and excited :)

After that I will walk the English side of the River Dee as I did the Welsh side in May, I'm visiting Liverpool (one of my favourite cities) b4

Do you believe that people should change for the better by taking baby steps that they're not so strict on and don't reinforce much or do you think they should take big steps that they're stricter on and reinforce more? Which of the two do you think most people do? Which is the better option?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
I think they should start slowy and build up. As long as you've decided to change and not using relapses as an excuse, the direction is less important.
While you may wish to go cold turkey, I'm adamant that a few setback DON'T make you a failure. A lot of people who weren't very confident to begin with give up at the first lapse, when in fact that is the true failure; a lapse isn't a failure unless you let it be one by giving up.

"Never complain and never explain" is a phrase said by people who have rumours spread about them. Do you think it's good advice to never complain about rumours spread about you and to never explain yourself or the truth?

Best to not acknowledge them and rise above the level of the accuser?
This is another one that I have to say is well outside my area of expertise!?

With a serious answer, What is happiness for you in the future? How would u be happy in life?

Do you climb on trees?

No, I never learned! I do like playing in a tree swing though and I think climbing trees is good for body and soul, though I'm not the most agile person and I don't think it would be a good idea for me to start now.

Following Saturday’s horse racing Grand National, Ricky Gervais tweeted "Why would you gamble with a horse’s life for fun?" and while the majority of people supported this, there was a loud minority of people disagreeing. Do you agree or disagree with Ricky and why? How would you answer Ricky?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
I agree with Ricky, it's time such senseless cruelty came to an end. The appeal of it (and it appeals to lot of people I know) is mystifying.

Which of your past relatives would you have liked to have met/spoken to (if any) and why? Who is currently your oldest living relative?

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
My oldest relative is my granddad on my dad's side, who is 89 and while he's in the early stages of dementia, appears to have stabilised with his medication. Hopefully he will live to a hundred!
The one I'd most like to meet was my granddad on my mum's side. He was Polish and died 9 years before I was born, so I'd love to hear his thoughts on his early life in Torun with his 9 siblings (I'm going there at Easter!) and about what he did in the war (I know he fought for the Allies but know almost nothing else) and what settling down to life in another country was like.
As I have no idea of any of this it would plug a gap!

What is the most common first language in the country you're in?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
English, and Polish a distant second.
Sadly the language is now being bastardised by Americanisms, which is saddening because our language has evolved from Saxon roots with added Celtic, Norse and French words, and absorbed words from around the world.
The various accents and dialects have always evolved, but this sudden dumping of American and Estuary bastardisations is wholly new. The language can be enriched (enriched is originally a French word, originally is originally a Latin word) BUT starting sentences with so, and the 'I was like X, he was like Y, she was like Z' don't enrich the language, do they?
