Elevator or stairs?

Stairs for me! I know some people need the elevator (or lift, as I'd call it) but I think anyone who can climb the stairs should do so, so as to avoid getting unfit.
I don't want to become one of those people who is out of breath after climbing a flight of stairs and thanks to my exercise such a thing is decades away, or hopefully won't ever happen!

Do you have a teacher you're still in touch with? I have a sculpture teacher from 1994-1998 that still supports everything I do

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
No! My brother is a high school IT teacher so I'll ask him whether it's common. But I didn't have a hood time at school so never saw any teachers or pupils again, or wanted to.

Have you ever made a phone call to a politician's office?

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
Not phone call, but I used to write to my member of parliament and usually got a reply, though rarely a helpful one.
Stopped bothering when conservatives were elected tho :(

Do you listen to the radio often?

Yes! I'm a staunch supporter of Radio 4 and I love the world at one, the food programme, from our own correspondent, the archers, week in westminster and many one-off programmes that are on!
Although some denigrate the BBC, a subscription services with adverts blaring would not come anywhere near this quality.

Hypothetical: You do a DNA test like 23AndMe and your DNA shows that you've a significant percentage of DNA from a race you didn't know you were part. Do you then get culturally educated? Start identifying as the race and reclaim their slurs? What actions do you think are/aren't appropriate?

urlsareshittbh’s Profile Photourlsareshittbh
I did such a test! I found that I'm 17% Scandinavian (probably from distant ancestors who were Vikings) and 23% Eastern European (granddad was Polish and presumably he was partly Scandinavian as well if you go far back enough).
So in Poland

My mum understood more than me of the culture and I related to the Catholic theme, but my 'blood' didn't respond in some mystical way as I was raised in the British culture so (apart from being secondarily Catholic and Europan) my DNA had little impact.
Although I may well be a third cousin to some of the people I saw in Torun, as my granddad came from there, I never met him as he died 9 years before I was born and wouldn't recognise any of my relatives.
I hope to go to iceland this year as my dad is interested in the Northern Lights, and while that is a European and Germanic country and has some cultural similarities with Britain, my Scandinavian 'blood' which I recently heard about certainly won't change my approach to the place.

Do you say: purse, handbag, bag, pocketbook, satchel, or something else when referring to the bag that many people wear daily?

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
Those are all different things!
A purse is akin to a wallet but differently shaped and goes inside a handbag (I have a manbag, which I believe is different to a handbag as it is bigger and more closely resembles a satchel though differently shaped).
Bag is too vague a term as it may refer to a handbag, manbag, or carrier bag.
I haven't had pocketbook before so would have to look that up?

Do you say couch or sofa or something else?

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
I say settee, which is a British working-class thing.
But I understand sofa, couch or chesterfield.
Surely we all agree they are good to sit on even if we use different names!

Do you feel the wild birds where you live?

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
Yes! Birds are welcome to feed & drink at my station and it's important to get soecifically designed wild bird food, based around fat & the sort of grains suited to them, rather than bread which is unhealthy.
I'm not 100% sure they can be called wil as it's a major city wth all that comes with it, but we actually have more birdlife than rural areas which are deforested and a monoculture of crops and I'm fully behind that.

How did you meet your partner (or most recent ex if you’re single)? If you’ve never been in a relationship, how do you think you’ll meet your future partner?

AmericanLass’s Profile PhotoC.
I was a commentor on her (sadly now defunct) blog!
Never been on online dating or had much interest in relationships, until one found me! And we've been seeing each other on & off for 7 years, and will meet this weekend!!

Do you have a favorite gemstone?

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
I adore quartz! When I go to the Highlands of Scotland
http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/scotland
We go from Inverness into Glen Affric and stop for a walk in a certain place (I don't know exactly where it is, even though I've been there several times, but it's in the glen somewhere) and there's a huge deposit of quartz in a stream. That's when I know I'm back in my place.
Haven't yet taken a picture of that piece of quartz but I will do next time, which is in September.
