What is the worst thing you got in trouble for as a child?

I was often in triuble, even though my parents were clear on right and wrong, due to my asd I just didn't understand the rules, got into trouble, and it must have seemed I was deliberately misbehaving but I was always upset at doing the wrong thing and it wasn't until I was 11 that I got my diagnosis and sone understanding of what it was all about.
On one occasion though, on April Fools' Day, my mum drew moustaches on all the family portrais then got me and my brother and angrily demanded which of us had done it. We stared at each other, each wondering how the other had dared, then it was revealed to be a prank (a rather unfunny one, I thought!)

What provides you a sense of stability and why?

I've always lived here, not just in the same city, but in the same house all my life and I'm 31. Other than when I went to university, I haven't moved anywhere.
So I've gone on trips all round the world:
http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/photos
But when I return from my journey, I always come back here, so that's my stability!

What do you have to lose if you just go for it?

I've already gone for it, fam. A five-hour train journey and a week away from home doing hard but I hope rewarding work.
http://treesforlife.org.uk/volunteer/conservation-weeks/
Anon, you can't be truly happy unless you've put in some kind of effort for your reward. That doesn't have to be paid work- a problem in society is that paid employment is seen as the only useful activity even though much of it is useless or actively bad, and much of the good stuff isn't paid or valued-
Be it voluntary work or some kind of hard physical or intellectual challenge (try doing a long-distance walk and making a blog or a photobook about it) and that's what you need.
“It’s not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.” (Sir Edmund Hillary)
Thus, despite disgusting bellends like Piers Moron saying otherwise, second or bronze medal or just finishing is a victory because it's a victory over your own selfishness and laziness, it's the better you defeating the worse you.
If you don't climb the mountain you can't see the view, anon.

Why do you think some people consider the idea of death comforting?

Some find life so intolerable that they welcome death, others look forward to eternal paradise once they're dead and can't wait to leave the travails of this world to enter heaven.
I know what you mean though, some people for no obvious reason embrace death as a lover, as a romantic thing. Why is that? I don't know, I'd be interested in what others think but I don't know.

Do you believe in the concept of basic human rights, or do you think each country should be allowed to determine which rights their people deserve?

theonlyems’s Profile Photolionessence
That's a good one :)
I don't think there is any difference between, say, a female genital mutilation victim in Somalia or a child bride in Qatar than myself and the people around me, in that they don't deserve that and don't want it given the choice.
I no longer believe in the concept of "humanitarian" "intervention" because it's so hypocritical, selectively applied, and never works. We now know that even Saddam Hussein is less bad than that particular mission accomplished. And why is there this hysteria about Basher Assad being the worst thing ever, by people who are mysteriously silent abou their "allies" the Islamic States of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and the Islamic State of Turkey.
So it's difficult, I certainly believe everyone has their rights but a lot of people in, say, Syria actually prefer their governments to the alternative-particularly the Christians and other minorities- so the role of the western countries shouldn't be to (selectively) "intervene", it should be to back off from writing a blank cheque for our (weirdly chosen) "allies".

Neocons say it is callously abandoning people to their fate but when you look at what they "achieve", who knows?

is there any difference between I don't like you & I hate you ??

Isn't it that dislike is passive, hate is inactive? as in the oerson you don't like, you wouldn't think of them if they weren't there, whereas the person you truly hate is always on your mind.
Which is worse, being hated ir being indifferent and forgotten? I don't know really.

When, if ever, is it impolite to appear knowledgeable? Should a person ever apologize for their knowledge? Why?

Showing off is bad when it isn't based on anything, when an arrogant, know-it-all attitude covers ignorance of a topic. People will follow "strong, confident alpha male" leaders, sometimes to disaster.
Also, when you do genuinely know a subject but want to beat other people with your knowledge, rather than put it at the service of others.

Do you look down upon those who choose to undergo plastic surgery? Why?

I've never really thought about it, certainly I've not considered it myself. I don't think I'd judge other people if they feel the need for it?
Because not everyone has my beauty.

Are you interested in post-mortem changes of human body or would you rather not learn the morbid details of decomposition your body will experience? Why?

I'm sorry, post-mortem bodies aren't my idea of a night out!
What I was interested in is in the old days, they were often not sure someone was actually dead, so people were buried alive and often died of suffocation in the grave!
http://www.theparisreview.org/blog/2016/01/06/im-not-dead-yet/
People would have it in their wills that if they looked dead they should have their wrists cut to save them a slow, agonising death in a grave. Great, I hadn't thought of that in ages and now I have :s

How would you describe a mentally healthy individual (e.g. your own, subjective guidelines to determine whether a person is mentally healthy or not)? Would you say that 100% mentally healthy people are a rarity and nearly everyone has unresolved issues? Why?

Only the easy questions :)
I don't know, like if our whole society is sick, does that mean fitting into it is actually a bad thing? Would someone with no issues at all just be a boring pushover? Sometimes anger and disaffection is the right response to injustice, sometimes it's just pointless, like walking around in a rage without ever using your energy to right wrongs.
This is a great question, but I don't really know much about it except to say this:

Five star hotels throw away all the leftover buffet food every day as they can't serve it to the guests because they pay so much, but why don't they donate that food to poor people?

This is a good question, since it's 6am I will answer with a link & video rather than saying anything myself. It's a very intersting subject, please do loom at it :)

what advice would you give to Someone Who's Being Bullied?

Why not phone a helpline? Because it happened to me and I never thought to get the school or parents involved, no one knows what the consequences of that would be.
I hear it is more insidious now, going online and so on. So I think your first thing should be to contact professionals who aren't to do with the school in case there are unintended consequences.
Above all, it isn't your fault and you have to try your hardest not to let them define you as fat, ugly, a freak, "swot" (this is what I so often got) and keep hold of your own life and interests, not let yourself be defined by what other people do to you that you don't deserve.
I don't know your circumstances, anon, so I don't soecifically know who would be the best people to consult but I'd begin by getting on the phone to someone and don't be afraid or ashamed of it.

Do any of the things that used to upset you a few years ago matter at all to you today?

Not really, a few years ago I had an underactive thyroid, so from vaguely around 2012 to March 2015 I was far more upset and angry at the drop of a hat.
Today, I still get angry at injustice or seriously bad behaviour but I don't get het up so easily.
But then again, I haven't got laid since January so I'm in a bit of a mean mood :)

"people says world will be better place if there is no muslim on this earth" no muslims = no isis what do you think ?

Except that Muslims and Christians lived in peace in Saddam's Iraq, which was a pretty nasty place but without mass sectarian killings and the worst of the Islamists kept in line...
Until "patriots" decided the best way of fighting the Scary Muslims would be to overthrow a secular regime that protected the religion they allegedly follow themselves. So who now thinks the "response" to 9/11 was a good thing?
9/11 eh, arentchasickofit? Perhaps it wasn't a good idea to sell arms to Islamists and anyone who was against communism in the 80s, without a milisecond's thought for the long-term consequences. Why have "patriots" spent decades cuddling up to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain etc, then have the gall to accuse Rotten Lefties of doing the same themselves?
Obama could have risen above this, but his own tendency to foreign policy realism was undermined by Killary, who is the main architecht of the Libya farrago. Therefore I support Gary Johnson.
Also why is Iran meant to be the worst place ever, neocons hate it far more than the Sunni regimes- which they quite like, and they even supported the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt- when there are no Islamic State supporters in Iran?
You're an idiot, anon, and should try looking in the mirror since "patriots" and "anti-jihadists" have spent three decades stoking up the problems they project on to Scary Muslims and Rotten Lefties.
