I feel so joyous about tulip season where I live, and have to go to the fields every year. Is there a particular flower season where you live that you love above the rest?

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
I like me some flowers, snowdrops, daffodils, I'd like Himalayan balsam if they weren't an invasive species. But the gold medal must go to the bluebells, I enclose a photograph of them from Knypsersley, a place that's been beloved by probably millions of people from this city down the generations.
And I was visiting my girlfriend yesterday and we looked at a book about her city and heard of a new place to see them! Tolkien lived in this place, which was then a country village, and it inspired him.

But here's one I made earlier :)

What is your favorite lie?

When conservatives talk about what "patriots" they are and why it's necessarily to illegally invade somewhere or other in order to fight Islamism...
... and at the same time, illegally selling arms to the Gulf states' "coalition" for its war crimes in Yemen and train Saudi prison guards to kill and torture innocent political prisoners.
When conservatives talk about the "sovereignty" of this country...
... and at the same time turn us into a Chinese economic colony.
I'VE GOT YOUR JOINED-UP THINKING RIGHT HERE OZZY, SHAMERON, HAMMOND-ORGAN AND WHATEVER THE REST OF YOU ARE CALLED!

Whats the best April Fools prank you've ever witnessed?

When I was young my mum painted moustaches on all the family photos, then got me and my brother and demanded to know which one of us had done it. We stared at each other, each wondering how the other had dared do such a thing. But it was all a prank. Not very good behaviour, if you think about it!
Laugh? I thought I'd never start.

What's the most troubling post you've seen on one of your social network accounts recently? (You don't have to repeat it word-for word, just the gist). Why did it bother you so much?

The welfare "reforms" and the threatened destruction of our steel industry. I'd imagine you'd share my sentiments here. And rage is so much better when it has a Rush song enclosed :)

How was your Easter? :)

It was swell, thanks, pictures are still being uploaded on my website :)

After finishing my hardcore walk, I finished with evensong in Lichfield Cathedral, it's such a joy to hear people sing in the 1662 prayer book's language.
Then I had 4 amarettos, a Thai meal and a bar of what legends eat...

What's the last song you listened to?

Because its Easter and I'm on my long distance walk

I'm an agnostic in terms of the deity existing, but I used to love going to midnight mass and it somehow feels right to be going to the catholic and the high Anglican churches (none of that prod shite, please) and anyone who went to any form of Christian school might remember singing this ditty when they were very young. In a totally different version to what we had at primary school but I love it.

Which slang term from the past do you think should come back into style?

I'm really rocking "sblood" and, appropriate for Easter, "swounds". Which auto"correct" just tried to change to sounds, so you can see the struggle we face! ;)

Best photo op: sunrises or sunsets?

THOUGHT YOU'D NEVER ASK, anon. I love both and I missed an amazing sunset last night, tragically, there were no clouds and a perfect clear blue sky so the sun set as a golden, slowly reddening disc. But we've definitely got our consolations! A perfect sunrise in October. I was visiting Ribchester, in Lancashire, which tragically was flooded, but here it is before those events.

What's your wish on a four-leaf clover?

This is my response to that bellend George Osborne and his latest budget. Samuel Johnson (an old-time conservative of the kind that stopped existing long ago, replaced by neoliberals who only care about making money) had this to say. And it's what I say about his cuts to disability benefit for people who, just because some fraud medical assessment deems them "fit for work", are either entirely unable to work or can do so only with support of the kind that Thatcherite conservatives consider them unworthy of.
"What we are told about the great sums got by begging is not true: the trade is overstocked. And, you may depend upon it, there are many who cannot get work. A particular kind of manufacture fails; those who have been used to work at it, can, for some time, work at nothing else. You meet a man begging; you charge him with idleness; he says, 'I am willing to labour. Will you give me work?' -- 'I cannot.' -- 'Why, then you have no right to charge me with idleness.' "

Where's Diana?

If you mean the user on here who has had many usernames, I don't know where she is, I hope she is ok and I support her.
If you mean Princess Diana, I don't know that either :)

If the economy were to fail completely and we operated completely on a bartering or trading system, what service or product would you trade/barter with? Would you learn new trades?

I suppose I'd have to ride my bike from settlement to settlement, delivering messages in exchange for bits of wild animals and grass and berries to eat. :)
Though I don't think I'd last long without my levothyroxine, I'd soon develop "cretinism" (a very common disease in the old days) and die.
I think we need more nature and "rewinding" in our lives, we have too little wildness. Have you read Feral by George Monbiot? I highly recommend it, but, just as you can have too little of the wild, you can certainly have too much. Inevitably there is a song about it :)

How do you feel about Daylight Savings Time? If you don't live in an area that observes it, what is it like to never change your clocks back and forth? :)

It never made much sense to me. When I'm on my long distance walk, on the night I'm staying at my parents' house theoretically having a relax, I need to wake up an home earlier for Easter Sunday (at http://stokeminster.org ) and embark on a 17 mile stretch with an hour less sleep! It seems it always happens for the worse, either less sleep in the middle ring or an earlier sunset. I'm not fully cognisant with it but I know there is a movement to have it abolished, as a thing of the past, and doubtless I'll be in sympathy with them when I'm already started at what feels like 7am :)

The first thing to your left is your weapon in the zombie apocalypse. What is it?

A big, fuck-off nailgun. You're not going to fuck around with someone who can do this to you.

What are you looking forward to this spring?

This time in three weeks I'll probably be arriving in the destination for my third overnight stay doing this.
http://twosaintsway.org.uk/
It's going to be absolutely hooj, I'll be in the cathedrals, churches etc and joining in the Easter business, and walking.
One night, I actually booked it well in advance and didn't even know that a massive jazz festival is happening in that town! So I'll be exhausted from all the walking and everyone in the pub I'm staying in will be raucous. But a number of my friends live in that town so if I feel up to it I'll hang round with them in the evening. The next night I'll be at home (the route, happily, passes through my city so I can get changed without carrying clothes round) and the night after that I'll just be rolling into this town, three weeks from now.

Hopefully it will be a bit drier. And I'll lay myself down and then Monday I'll walk the last stage to one of my favourite cathedrals, the final point :)

Last night a woman pushed her way into my apartment screaming about her drug dealer and I had to physically fight her back out. It's situations like this that remind me I always go the way of "fight" in a "flight or fight" situation. How about you? Are you a fighter or a flight risk?

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
I'm afraid I'm the world's biggest coward, I fought off an attacker in 2007 and that's the only "victory" I've ever had. I've been in two fights, both of which I lost, and I've just avoided any unsafe situations since.
Once in 2006 I was in the city and a skinhead was wearing a Bound For Glory T shirt and I said to my friend he must be a neo-Nazi. When this guy challenged me I said I hadn't said anything and he said something like "that's what I thought" and went off, apparently content with having scared the bejeezus out of me instead of crushing me like he could have done. But I'm not one for fighting really.

If someone else had access to your music library, would you be overall proud or embarrassed? What songs would you find especially embarrassing, and which ones make you feel the "coolest"?

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
If I was hauled before the guardians of music and they demanded I justify my existence, I'd probably point to all the blues records I have. Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Willie McTell, Blind Willie Johnson (there were a lot of blind folks in those days), Howlin Wolf, Son House, Robert Johnson and a dozen more besides.
I don't really know what met people would think because I don't discuss it. Most people don't really care for music, do they? So I only have a music talk with those of my friends who have similar views to me, we can give each other recommendations.
And if someon were to slag off my library, I say this. :)

What tastes better than it smells?

When I was in Penang, in Malaysia, I loved this local drink, nutmeg juice. Yes, it's the fruit that the spice comes from but made into a juice! I didn't have the presence of mind to mix it with alcohol but I loved it as it was.
It doesn't seem to have taken off outside Pulau Penang but I wish it would, it's swell :)
