Why is your walking buddy scared of cows? I'm a little frightened of them, too, although I have no idea why.

Because she and another friend of mine that I walk with got chased by a herd of cows when they were out with some other people (I wasn't there). Another person in my group avoids cows because they bother his dog, so we just avoid them in general. They can apparently be quite nasty.

Today is Cow Appreciation Day! Would you hug a cow?

I've actually always wanted a picture of myself standing next to a Belted Galloway, a particular rare breed. But the person I generally go for a walk with is scared of cows so it hasn't happened yet. Nevertheless, here's a picture of a herd of cows.

If you could visit anywhere on holiday where would you go?

Vienna (before 1914). I'm properly good thru the Austro-Hungarian empire, I don't actually know that much about it but I'd have a day eating pastry, goulash and what-have-you and visiting imperial sites.

It's World UFO Day! What's the first thing you'd ask an alien?

WHAT TIME IS LOVE? WHAT TIME IS LOVE?

If you could be any OITNB character, who would it be?

Presumably one who knows who the other ones, given that I've never watched it :)
On the plus side, I've just downloaded an audiobook of Ecclesiastes.

What movies are you looking forward to renting or seeing in the theatre this summer?

I'm not much of a film buff, but I just got Waterloo (the eponymous battlle having been fought 200 years ago) and I'm hoping to watch it tonight. Also I am looking forward to a film called She Who Brings Gifts that I don't think is out yet, but I heard about it because it was filmed in my city and Gemma Arterton stars in it, she is my wife*.

In my wisdom, I forgot to go and watch the shooting, but I'll recognise a lot of it when I see it on film :)

If you were bread and they announced you were going to be a sandwich but could choose your own filling, what would it be?

HUMANS

.

For the avoidance of doubt:
a. My keyboard has som kind of weird problem sometimes typing letters twice, other timess not typing them at all. That explains most of the typos, I try to correct them but don't always succeed (as I think much faster than I typen I try not to linger over typing anyway).
b. That picture is actually not a black and white picture (look very closely, and the horse has a dark green coat). I don't actually know why it looks like one, it wasn't through any conscious effort on my part. I send my pictures to a printing firm and the make cards for me, blank on the inside so they can be customised for all occasions. That wwill be the next one :)

What, if any, is your conception of the afterlife?

"I don't know, and neither do you". I think it's possible that we live on after death, but I'd imagine it being more like Sheol/Hades than any everlasting reward or punishment. I also don't believe in reincarnation.

What do you think Aldous Huxley would have to say about The Walking Dead? Do you think he'd be a fan of contemporary, dystopian fiction/science fiction in general?

I'm sorry that I'm not much good at this game, I have in fact never heard of The Walking Dead! The best follow up to Brave New World is probably Island, his final book.
But what I do know is that he was very scientifically literate and concerned at the great gulf fixed between literature and science, and would have been a scientist if his eyesight wasn't so bad. I'd imagine he would follow developments in psychology with great interest (the second Mrs Huxley was a psychiatrist) and take it from there.

What do you think makes a person beautiful?

Yeah, you're knocking on the wrong door if you want some profound insight.
What do you think makes a person beautiful

I reallllly dislike those Pixar minion things. Just seeing them makes me mentally roll my eyes and people who wear shirts and stuff with them strike me as unintelligent. It's obviously a very unpopular opinion. Do you have any similar feelings about any specific part of our pop culture?

I have, in fact, never heard of them. I'm sure if I knew anything about popular culture it would only anger and confuse me, so I keep a healthy ignorance of it :)

If you could talk with only one person for the rest of your life, who would it be?

I don't know? Chesterton maybe, I'd like to know where he got his thinking from and minee his head. But perhaps even more so Aldous Huxley. The post-1918 iconoclast, the 1930s seer, the 1950s mystic, all contained in one person, so it's like speaking to several geniuses who are all one person.

How would you describe your diet? Are there any foods you can't eat or choose not to eat?

Not got any restrictions or allergies or anything. Of course there are things I don't like, but I eat what I do like without fear :)
