What do you usually have for breakfast ??

Fruit, today I had strawberries as I've waited a long time for the English strawberry season!

If you could have a super power what would you choose?

My answer to this question is always the same, it's all about the flying for me!

How's your day?

It's 6am and I just woke up!
I am a bit depressed by the weather but on the other hand,it will make an interesting photoshoot to transpose 'summer' and 'flood' in the same environment so that should be interesting. Watch this space!

Do you commute to work?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
Yes, on the bus!
Buses are very infrequent and unreliable where I live so I go on an early bus that supposedly gets to my work at 08:08, as the next bus supposedly arrives at 08:48 but hardly ever actually does this so I might not be at work by 9 if I did that.
It's good listening to music & reading books on the bus and I don't drive cars so I wouldn't mind, but I do think in these days of congestion & pollution that there should be more buses and trains.
The bus was, due to heavy rain (itself exacerbated by human activity and by the failure to clear out grids & drains properly) was 50 MINUTES LATE! So I arrived, rather stylishly I feel, at 08:58 for a 9am start!

What was the lowest paying job you’ve ever had?

When I was 18 I worked in a warehouse for £4.50 an hour to help with the cost of my first year of university.
The warehouse paid all its staff the legal minumum wage for adults, it was actually more than they were legally obliged to pay me as I was under 21. But still a pittance though!

Favourite fictional character? And why?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
Which of your children do you most love? ;)
Right now I'll go with Bruce Chatwin's creation, Kaspar Utz, as all Chatwin's charachters are masterfully drawn and Utz is someone I really relate to; I'd recommend reading the book, which is called Utz, as like all the best fiction it captures a specific time and place- the now totally vanished communist Central Europe- and all of life.

What animal do you think your spirit animal is?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
Funny story about that!
I was on top of Snowdon in 2013 when I saw this mighty eagle flying free. And I thought to myself, that bird is my spirit animal :)
Little did I know there was a pigeon on the floor, so now I'm cursed by having a pigeon as my spirit animal!

How many languages do you speak?

I only speak English to fluency. I did German at school and picked up a bit of Russian when I went to Moscow in 2003 (I can still read the Cyrillic alphabet, but hardly know any words)
When I visit my friends in France I try to understand things based on films I've seen with subtitles (the Dardenne brothers are among my all-tine favourites) and I found sone things easy to understand as a number of English words are French (brought in by the Normans), have a common Latin root.
All of the above languages are Indo-European so easier than a language outside the family.
But sadly, none of these apply to any great extent though I like to watch a European film with subtitles.

Do you believe in luck?

TheBeesKneesGirl’s Profile PhotoEffy
Yes, I believe luck is a thing; for instance, people who inherit wealth, go to private school, etc. are luckier than those who don't.
Also I think some random good or bad things happen to people who can't be praised or blamed for what happens.
There is an element of personal responsibility in developing such opportunities as we have, but I certainly think that good and bad luck are things which happen and come from outside.

If you could have only have one food for a week what would you pick?

Would it be ok to cheat a bit and say bread, then I can eat different varieties of bread on different days.

Have you ever kept a diary? I’m intrigued by those who do. I lack the commitment and would be horrified if someone found it, but on the other hand, it would be interesting/potentially hilarious to read it back in later years.

I don't keep a diary in the sense that I write my deepest feelings into a journal then bury it, or an online diary. But my website http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/photos is a sort of diary of interesting things I do, though without any deep emotional stuff.

In a question to me you mentioned the book "Decline and Fall of the British Aristocracy" by David Cannadine which you mentioned speaks of how the decline of the aristocracy in Britain went hand-in-hand with the decline of the society. Could you tell me more about the book? Thanks. :-)

An excellent review is to be found here
https://www.nytimes.com/1990/11/04/books/never-has-so-few-owned-so-much.html
I am especially interested in the way very early in the Industrial Revolution, aristocrats were actually among the main beneficiaries; they owned the land on which mines, canals etc could be established and had the capital for railways, factories and so on.
Next month I look forward to visiting http://www.ectonmine.org which was owned by the Dukes of Devonshire and is a perfect example of this early process, which later petered out.
But they later lost ground and David Cannadine explains how and why.
