How fun that you are in Morocco! Is it your first time there?

StephenInd’s Profile PhotoStephen Ind
Yes, this is the first time I have been to Morocco.
I have been to the city of Marrakech and am going back tomorrow and (if everyone on the group wants to) to the mountains tomorrow.
I am reading these books.
Susan Gilson Miller a history of modern Morocco
Samuel Pepys on the English expedition to Morocco (1683)
Museum with No Frontiers book on Andalusian art in Morocco.
Emily Gottreich on the history of Jews in Morocco.
Paul Danahar’s history of the Middle East.
And a guidebook to Morocco that I read last week but had to take back to the library.
Am drinking this wine which was brown in Morocco.

What’s an irrational fear you have?

jazzyazul’s Profile PhotoJazzyAzul
My carbon monoxide alarm went off around 5am on Wednesday!
I was terrified but overcame the panic, because I thought most likely a false alarm, so I pulled the batteries out of the alarm, opened the windows, switched off the gas, and went out (I always go for a walk on the canal at 6 because I need to exercise and have no other time, so going out at 5 isn’t as bad for me as it might be for someone else).
That same day I bought a new carbon monoxide alarm. As you’ve probably guessed, with everything in the house back to normal, the alarm didn’t go off (except when in testing mode).
So it was all a load of bollox, I haven’t got carbon monoxide and could have just disabled the alarm weeks ago instead of wasting £25 on a new alarm that didn’t go off because the old alarm was full of shit.
I like to think that I handled this well and it’s not irrational tho?

What's your opinion dishwashers?

Shannon678900’s Profile PhotoShannon
They save water which is helpful if you’re on a water meter, but I can’t make the upfront investment of buying one.
The effort of washing dishes is something I don’t mind, but if someone really hates it then that’s another advantage to a dishwasher.
So there are three factors in making your decision and I can’t say what you should do, but the above is what happens with both ways, and is why I don’t have one.

What's your favourite day of the week.

dawn1975’s Profile Photodawn1975
Saturday, because it’s the most relaxing and me day of the week.
Monday to Friday is just work, and I’m not one for wild nights, so I’m rarely hungover on a Saturday, can just do the things I like (unless it’s bad weather or I want to go somewhere on train but can’t afford it that month).
Sunday is quite good but by the afternoon I’m thinking about Monday and it overshadows my relaxing, so that’s why my vote goes to Saturday.

When do YOU feel most alone?

frostawolf20’s Profile PhotoAdam
Not when I’m actually alone, but when with people I have nothing in common with, such as at work or at family get-togethers that I didn’t want to go to.

Have you ever been sent home from work?

Shannon678900’s Profile PhotoShannon
Yes, when I had norovirus. I barely did any work and was in danger of making everyone ill 😆 I’ve never been sent home as a punishment though, if that’s what you mean?

Do you enjoy putting up the Christmas tree? I freaking hate it.

mkugrl’s Profile Photomkugrl
I don’t actually have one! I’m going to my parents’ house for four days (they only live 10 minutes drive or 30 minutes walk away) so my house doesn’t really see much of me at that time.

What will change in every day routine if democracy replaces democratic monarchy in the UK ?

Fontaine
I think it would be a mistake. America is a republic yet has worse poverty and inequality than Britain with less social mobility.
I don’t think lords and ladies are the problem, I think turbocapitalism and Brexit are the problem. We can have Charles (who has done excellent work near where I live, btw, at Middleport Pottery) and abolish the worst of our problems. Or we might do away with Charles and find that the real problem gets worse, as in America?

Happy December, do you have any plans this month?

Shannon678900’s Profile PhotoShannon
Hoping to cycle tomorrow (though it might be too cold) and going here.

Next weekend, doing my voluntary work and meeting my girlfriend.
The week after that, a film festival in Liverpool about mountaineering; probably alone because the friend I was going with had to cancel, but it will still be good having the whole day to do cultural things and then the filmfest.
After that I might do nothing the weekend, or try to cycle, if weather allows.
Also work and at least 2 house cleans, but who wants to hear about that!

Contract or pay as you go? Which are you?

paulapiranhaxoxo’s Profile Photopaulapiranhaxoxo
Contract! I had too many bad experiences with running out of calls/texts in the early noughties and having to wait until I could buy £5 of phone the next day.
Although things like contracts and apps have their downsides, and the old ways still have a place (I do something like half my spending in cash as it helps budgeting, and buy CDs/DVDs because they’re cheaper than streaming for some artists) we are lucky enough to have a choice nowadays.
