What is the worst advice you have ever been given? Qual é o pior conselho que já te deram?

alyssonzurcmann’s Profile PhotoALLYSSON ZURKEMANN
Just yesterday, someone angrily demanded that I stop picking up litter (with a mechanical device; I never touch it with my hands) and depositing it in bins, because I might spread covid-19 by doing so!?
He said my actions were against the law and I pointed out that this is a load of old shit, that I know more about the law than he does, and that several council workers were in the park, none of whom had complained about my activities.
If I had listened to this man (something probably went wrong in his life; it has nothing to do with me) I would leave this filth on the ground.
He also said I should be at home, even though (as I reminded him) he was obviously not at home himself. When he 'explained' that he was exercising, I asked what he thought I was doing in the park in the first place!
Then I walked off and left him talking to himself.
So much truly awful advice given, and my life would be like his if I followed it.

I remember a few years ago there was this Black man at a bus stop and I just heard someone shout "nigggggeeeerrr" and about 5 or so white youths attacked him and it was over in ten seconds and they ran off lol. Is that funny?

Could you possibly recommend any Netflix shows or movies?

StephenInd’s Profile PhotoStephen Ind
I can :)
The Last Kingdom, based on the books by Bernard Cornwell, has just had its 4th season; if you're new to it I'd recommend starting on series 1 on netflix.
It is about the resistance of the Anglo-Saxons, who are my forefathers, to the Viking invasions. The land that I am from, Mercia, was overrun by Vikings so our neighbours and sometimes overbearing brothers, Wessex, were te last kingdom.
Later on, Mercia began to fight back, allied to Wessex. Although we were sometimes ill-led, we gained a great ruler in Aethelflaed, Lady of the Mercians, whose capital I visited.

There are some problems, most notably that the Welsh leader, King Hywel Dda, is portrayed as a cynical and grasping man in the tv series, when in fact he was a great ruler whose name is still praised (In the books, Uhtred of Bebbanburg meets him and admires his achievements).
So as long as you make sure to look up all the charachters and find what they really did, and how it sometimes doesn't match the tv series, please do immerse yourself in The Last Kingdom tv series as it's excellent.

? What’s a song (old or new) that is overplayed and that you’re sick of hearing?

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
I don't listen to the radio or follow the charts, so thankfully I never overhear anything (even records I love, I only listen to every few months).
Every Christmas, people complain that fairtyale of new york is overplayed! But I tell such people that it's a classic (I've always loved the pogues), and I may not think so if I heard it as often as them but they can just turn the radio off.

What TV show has gone off the air that you wish would come back?

Just watched The Last Kingdom Series 4 and wish it would be Series 5 already as Uhtred of Bebbanburg's work is far from done!
I've been reading the books by the master storyteller, Bernard Cornwell, since 2006 and I want to know more!
The books make more of Uhtred's wound than the tv series and he goes to Wales
http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/wales
Although Uhtred has been fighting the Welsh for decades, in the books they make a comeback after their initial losses against the Danes and Uhtred joins them, where he develops a respect for their ruler, Hywel Dda, and they work together and achieve... well, I won't share what happens in the books but hope we'll be seeing it on tv soon!

Spam: Does anyone know why this text is coming up where peoples photos might be in their profiles? I can't copy and past it but I will write as best as I can "GIF89a[][][][][][]![][][],[][][][]D[];" I have used "[]" to indicate what shows as a square on my computer. Thanks!

I just finished the film Stand & Deliver, about an LA teacher who helped 18 inner city students pass an AP calculus test in the 1980s. Have you ever had (or heard of) any teachers you found to be particularly inspiring?

AmericanLass’s Profile PhotoC.
I still have occasion to thank my high school maths teacher as I work with numbers and think he set me in good stead for that. Wouldn't really call it inspiring though, as that word cannot be used in relation to my job!
My brother is a teacher so hopefully he's illuminating the minds of the next generation?

I'm a bit sad today because the event I was planning to go to,
https://www.mountainsonstage.com/
Has been 'postponed' until September (not even sure if it will happen then?) so I can't go to ths city

Visit my friend who lives there, watch the films, generally have an adventure. Instead of which I cancelled my holiday and worked!
Though I have fewer big events, the literary festival is cancelled, and even worse haven't seen my girlfriend since February (if not for covid-19 I'd probably have met her 3-4 times), many of my days are actually better than they would have been.
I'm glad I don't have to commute or go on the bus, or speak to my colleagues, most of whom are loud & annoying. (The ones who are friends are obviously not like this, but I stay in touch with them, and my family).
I actually do more exercise than I used to, I've taken to cycling at the weekend instead of going on the train. So life is a mixed bag, but BLUEBELLS!

Are you an Eco-friendly person?

Yes, I am and I think everybody else should be.
I recommend watching the new series Our Planet on Netflix, presented by David Attenborough, as a new addition to the environmental canon which I've just got into.

To do my bit, I have cut down the amount of plastic I use, have never driven a car (I used train/bus and now don't even do that due to lockdown) and have bought a litter picker to pick up the stuff that worthless dickheads drop on the floor.

This morning I got a bunch of likes from Russia...for some reason. Are you ever surprised by trends in your own likes?

RidgeBackRogue’s Profile PhotoRidgeBack Rogue
Although I think my blog
http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/photos
is a great blog, and a chronicle of the more interesting parts of my life, I cannot claim that I have many readers (apart from my mum, who once rang me up to complain when I accidentally hit reblog instead of like on a picture of lesbians!)
So I posted a photoshoot from the park in my hometown
http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/tunstall
And I got a picture of a boulder from the park and posted it seperately to the main photoshoot. For some reason, this boulder got hundreds of likes, while many of my posts don't get even one!
I think it was because some geology blogs reposted my post, and I later got put in that orbit thing, but this post got attention I feel would have been better spent on getting long-term subscribers to read all or most of my other posts.
