Do you have a current passport? If you use one, how often do you renew it? I prefer the 10-year option so I don’t have to worry about renewal, as it’s my only form of recognised I.D. I need to renew mine this year before my disability badge runs out. When will you next renew yours?

CactusDoug’s Profile PhotoDoug
I have a passport but I lost my old passport and had to get another in aid of my mortgage application wh I’ll make soon, so it’s the black Brexit edition :(
It will be renewed when it expires in 2031, unless I stop going on holidays!
I once lived in the same building as someone who travelled so often that her passport wore out from being thumbed and stamped so often, and had to be replaced for that reason!

Who would you call first if you won the lottery?

mbates348’s Profile PhotoMicheal Bates
No one, I’d keep it a secret!
I’d quit my job and tell everyone I’d got a new job, then live a fairly modest life, paying myself 150pc of my old salary so I could live comfortably, but spend my time doing interesting things, volunteering and above all not ever going to the office.
They would only know I was rich when I left a fortune to my loved ones and charity after death!

I'm visiting your home. When you step out of the room I scan your bookshelf. Based on the subject matter displayed there, what could I learn about you?

That I’m a wannabe historian.
Hope no one finds out that they’re unread!

My state is holding a vaccination lottery- anyone vaccinated for covid is entered in a lottery to win one of five cash prizes- (4) $250k and (1) $1 million. What would you do with $250k?

shehitsback’s Profile PhotoAllison
Bit boring but I’d buy a house in cash; for that amount I could buy a two bedroom house outright and then not have to pay mortgage or rent ever again.
I am phoning the mortgage advisor tomorrow to ask how much I can borrow so sorry that I’ve become a boring old man overnight! ;)

😲This is my first-ever shoutout! ⤵️ I’m low on direct questions, so feel free to send some my way. 🍞 One for you to answer: what’s your fave bread? E.g naan, croutons, breadcake, tortilla, etc. ?

How much self-control do you have with things that you know are bad for you, but tend to indulge in?

avadroitII’s Profile PhotoAva Banana
Probably above average, but not excellent. Today a work colleague brought in ten boxes of chocolate (to share around 20 people) and I’m happy that I ate none of it, while not judging those who did.
After this I went jogging; did eat a whole bag of biscuits but I’d planned to do that as it fits in with my ethos of ‘moderation in all things, including moderation’.
Now I’ve started cycling again, I am not being very strict with my diet because exercise is what it’s all about and I have the discipline that, even though it’s rarely if ever any fun, I am still going.

What's an funny "old person" phrase you've heard someone use? My grandma used to say "Oh my stars and garter belts!"

Very specifically, my grandad says ‘Crimes of Paris!’ Which is not only a phrase that most people stopped using decades ago, but is one that was only ever used in this city and very nearby towns. I Do think it’s a shame that the usage has died out.

Are you good at mathematics?

avadroitII’s Profile PhotoAva Banana
I used to think I was good at it because I got As at school. But I’m not as good as my colleague who is the master of excel and reporting, and is the person others ask when they need a mathematician.
I do think most people can get better with practice but, though I’m not bad at it, I fear I’m near my natural limit.

How often do you eat out? What kind of restaurants do you like?

avadroitII’s Profile PhotoAva Banana
Yes, I like to go with my friends to a curry house or an Italian restaurant near where we live, but sadly haven’t been able to do this as they have been shut by covid.
I also like drinking in pubs, which is a British thing a bit like drinking in bars, but better! That is soon coming back.

Do you get on well with your neighbors?

avadroitII’s Profile PhotoAva Banana
No, because they keep me awake playing (bad) music, inviting their lowlife friends round, then fighting with their friends (why be friends with people and invite them to your house if you’re going to end up drunkenly fighting with them? Absurd).
They have slightly calmed down because another neighbour complained to the police about them, but I don’t think they e changed, and fear they will start again.
I hope that by then I’ll have moved out, though!

What's the hottest temperature you have ever experienced? When and where?

avadroitII’s Profile PhotoAva Banana
In the place my brother used to live in!
http://dry-valleys.tumblr.com/tagged/singapore
It was the only place where I was glad to see rain.
I believe where you live has a wet season and dry season, but in SG it rains most days and is refreshing, unlike cold rain which I hate. I also don’t like dry heat like the dry season I saw in Bangkok. But tropical rain is actually fun for me!

Have you been outside today?

avadroitII’s Profile PhotoAva Banana
Yes, I walked to a bus stop 4 miles from home before getting bus to work (I work 10 miles from where I live) and then walked throughout my lunch hour, about 3 miles.
I can’t sit in a building for so long without feeling stale and ill so did a bit of exercise as I do every day :)

Have you ever worn traditional costume from your country? Where and when? We're the comfortable?

avadroitII’s Profile PhotoAva Banana
There are lots of dress styles, such as traditional peasant clothes, a suit and tie as worn by gentlemen and those who wanted to look like gentlemen, ladies’ dresses, and so on.
But the traditional dress for men where I live was always functional, for working in a mine or a pottery factory. You will still see older, working-class men like my grandad dressed like this.

Does the weather affect the way you feel? How?

avadroitII’s Profile PhotoAva Banana
Yes, I feel best in April and September-October and worst in midsummer (too hot, and I don’t like too much daylight as it wakes me up too early in the morning), and a I don’t like January.

If you could change one thing about ASKfm for 24 hours, what would it be?

Disable all shoutouts. Asking me a question because you care what I have to say is one thing, and I’ll answer if i can.
(Sorry that I may not always be able to think of an answer, but that’s not because I’m ignoring you).
What I don’t want is people who send the same mindless spam to hundreds or thousands of people, then don’t care about the response. Well, if you’re going to ignore me I won’t talk to you. Very straightforward.
I suspect that this is like the ‘well-being survey’ we were sent at work, a formality where the higher-ups in fact won’t give a monkeys about the response. Prove me wrong.

What's your opinion on the practice of giving participation awards? Or more broadly, the idea of providing some kind of award, prize, gold star or "'atta boy" to a young person, even if they lost a game or played poorly? Seems to be a lot of controversy about that lately.

My first instinct would be to say it’s absurd and prizes are given out too easily.
But then, I reflected that ‘grit’ is often a bigger determinant of success than iq, and a lot of naturally gifted people become lazy and complacent, never developing while those they have always dismissed as stupid overtake them.
So someone who takes part and finishes the challenge, even if they lose, will (as long as they aren’t mocked until they give up) often end up ahead!?

BTW, I don’t know if you follow @origamibirds but I think she might have something interesting to say on this.
