I'm looking to either put new pickups in my shecter blackjack or buy a sterling jp70 and put pickups in that as well. Question is, what bare knuckle pickups would go well with what and also what would be the better option. I play a lot of progressive metal. What's your opinion ?

I think the Sterling JP70 with new Juggernaut set would sound stellar.

for you wich is the pickup with more definition

Pretty much all BKP models are incredibly clear and detailed. I'd say Aftermath though, it's alien tight.

Haha man thanks! And for the neck? I'm looking for a pick with really quality cleans and for solos and Stuff. Like a real solid and warm sound!

Warpig neck too, definitely.

Hi francesco! Just bought the new sterling jp70 and I'm looking for a pickup set put on it. I was wondering to buy some BKP but I don't know whitch ones. I'm looking for a agressive, with a really tight chugging and and really High quality on the low strings. I play death/brutal metal.

Ceramic Warpig bridge, don't look elsewhere.
And THANK GOD someone that manages to write guitar, genre and what he's looking for within a question :)

Do you judge people a little on their gear? Like if I was a 30 year old man with above average guitar skills but a cheap guitar and bad guitar tone

Why should I? Chon have pretty normal gear and they are kicking all kinds of asses around.
Music is what matters, I buy gear to inspire me writing different stuff, not to "do numbers" or an end of itself. Playing with different guitars and stuff is my way to keep the writing and ideas fresh, but there's of course plenty of people who don't need to do this to be creative.

I don't really learn by ear but is learning through tutorials and videos and watching finger placement a good start?

I'd say do both, I do it myself when ears are not enough.

Maybe this is a weird question but do you ever get self doubt or embarrassed about your music? Especially lyrics, sometimes I'm embarrassed to show people so I throw them out. Does this ever happen to you?

If it's like-minded people not at all, if it's other kinds of people who are not into this type of music or have different "ways of thinking", I just don't talk about it.

we never met but I love your guitar and your answers and you inspire me to pursue my dreams and be a better person thank you Francesco.

No, thank YOU for taking the time to read my ramblings :)

Any good tutorials or literature on metal/prog superior drummer eq and mixing that you could point me in the direction of? I've been using sithu aye's preset which is great but I'm looking for another flavor. Thanks!

I find mixing within Superior Drummer very limiting: if you want to obtain the best out of it, you should bounce all the midi stuff into audio with its "bounce" function and then treat every single track with external plugins. It will be much more rewarding in the end.
What I do on Superior is usually delete every eq or comp in the mixing chain, put all faders at zero, and then choose accurately which drum samples I wanna use among the available ones. Then tweak my midi velocities and dynamics until I am satisfied with the flow, and then export everything with the bounce feature.
Once I have all the separated audio stems, I put them on my DAW and start tweakin!

i haven't played guitar seriously for the last 3 years because of my school work load and it kills me that i have to spend a minimum of 3 more years in school. any advice?

Well it's actually a good question. Either you join an easier class (like I did when I was experiencing way too much work load and stress) or you give a shit about school and focus 100% on guitar, but you do have to be sure of your skills and what you're doing otherwise it would be pretty bad for your future. Or you just go to music school :)

do you do remixes

Used to time ago, just want to focus on my Metuhlz right now :) I will most likely return writing electronic music after the first Abiogenesis album, but of course Abio remains priority

I am truly grateful to you for answering my questions with so much detail. You're truly inspirational, keep inspiring and I hope you get really big one day! Keep at it bro!

Hey man, I am 20 and have had a guitar for like years, learned to play bits. However, recently, for numerous reasons, I got serious about it and started playing some Dream Theater Stuff through tabs and videos. I just finished learning the riff of just one song. Is it too late to get good?

Here's my little story: I've been playing guitar for 13 years, I'm 26 now. Until 22yo I was 90% a rhythm player only and had never been too serious about guitar. I was earning good money doing DJ in little clubs and was more interested in "girls and having fun".
Of course I played and noodled around a lot, but it was nothing more than thrash/death riffs, pentatonic runs and Van Halen tapping haha.
After all these years I got very sick of all the "going out/having fun/club" shit I was doing, so I abandoned it and started being much more serious about guitar: joined a pretty good band, did a fair amount of gigs around, also finally started taking lessons, first on soloing techniques and then theory.
It's been two years since I haven't taken any private lessons and also two years since I left my prior band to focus on Abiogenesis and teaching full-time. So you could say I had a "soloing/theory/skill" jump and learning curve in two years.
Short story: no it's not too late at all to get better haha :) know plenty of people who have started late and are killing it now!

Hey! Have you got an acoustic guitar? I'd pay to see you play some trippy gypsy licks :D

I'm receiving my Ibanez acoustic 7 string anytime soon!

penso che tu abbia il maggior numero di risposte in un singolo ask.. almeno per quanto concerne la musica :) continua così!

Tante o poche, spero che almeno ci sia una buona dose di informazioni utili :) grazie!

HI Francesco! FIrst of all, i'm a big fan of your insane work and guitar skill! Second,I need some advices, have you any tips to 'pierce' through a song for a cover? when i put together my guitar sound and the mp3 of the song, my guitar tone is 'drown' by the song..I'm using axe fx II btw. THX BRO!

Most of the time I just lower the song volume and/or raise the guitar volume :)

What do you think about SD Distortions?

Very badass all around Metal pickup. Tight, aggressive, punchy, meaty, it's a good one.
