If you were to get a signature pickup, what would you demand from it?

In the bridge, probably a blend between ceramic Nailbomb and ceramic Warpig, or a tweaked Nailbomb with a bit more grind.
Tight of course, but I'm more looking after "character under brutality". Pickup has to be balanced, I'll let the guitar shape its EQ a bit. Not looking for a particularily mid-forward pickup, as long as it's not scooped of course :) I like a broad midrange.
I believe cabinet is much more important to cut thru in a mix rather than the pickup's EQ, therefore I'm more concerned about character and bass response during single notes/chugs/chords/etc.
In the neck something with single-coil juice and clarity, but more power. Painkiller/Nailbomb/VH2 are favourites of mine, will check the Juggernaut neck asap to see if it's the ultimate one haha :)

do you think that mayones are a little bit overrated ? Would you prefer the old good JP7 with basswood body than a regius 7 ?

I've tried many Mayones guitars and they were all "anatomically perfect": no defects at all, perfect action and playability, superb attention to detail etc. But at the same time none of them has been "love at first chord" for me, I'm not huge on their multi-layer necks and while they look fancy none of them had a distinguishable tonal character.
Their prices are high but so is their quality standard, they're perhaps the most consistent brand I know. I just haven't encountered a "masterpiece" from them yet. So up to the customer in the end!

Ciao! Hai già avuto modo di ascoltare lo Stream di Volition? Se si, Cosa ne pensi? Io lo trovo fantastico!

non ancora :)

Hi Francesco! As you've played the necks on JP, Carvin and Ibby and like them all, is the neck shape a big deal for you generally or not? I've played all three companies and found they quite different, and JP's (6) necks don't have much meat at all. Or is this the reason you only have JP 7s?

You're correct, they're all pretty different and among them I'd consider JPs to have the thinnest one (that doesn't mean better).
I've never had a problem with any neck shape whatsoever, they're all equally comfortable to me.

What's your favourite fixed bridge?

Schaller Hannes, but Hipshot is great too! Bridge is not that big of a deal to me, anything works but Hannes and Hipshot sound better imho.

I'm looking for a 7 string with tremolo and ebony fretboard. Are the JP 7strings the best in that category and price range?

As of now Carvin, Jackson Broderick, JP, maybe something else my mind doesn't recall. I like all of them, depends on individual tastes

I have a VERY basic live rig.. basically guitar>boss me pedal>mic'd amp ..what would be the best and easiest way to get a stereo sound for gigs???

Hmmm not sure why would you want a stereo sound? Are you the only guitarist in the band? Easiest way would be two different mics, one hard panned L and the other hard panned R, but that doesn't mean much. There wouldn't be coherence in the stereo image as one might "eat up" the other, or sound much better than the other. If you have a cab with X pattern and a 57 for each speaker, it might work but I'm not into it to be honest.
Some guitarists manage to get two cabs or even two amps/cabs sounding great for a broader image, Vogg for example until not long ago. It's something I wouldn't do personally. If you want stereo effects though, that's another story...
PS: nothing replaces two guitarists playing at the same time rather than doubling one, even live!

Francesco, in the BKP's web says that the VH2 is a "vintage hot" and the Nailbom ceramic is "contemporary" this makes a difference in volume when you change from the bridge pickup to the neck? and if it happens, how do you "fix" it ?

The main difference is voicing: "vintage hot" pickups are voiced and winded to provide tried and true classic tone like the vintage ones, but tweaked to push more and be equally at home in contemporary stuff.
While the contemporary ones are theoretically higher output, this isn't actually true for all of them. The main aspect to consider is "perceived" output, how much the pickup saturates your amp. Blackhawks for example have a very low resistance, but they saturate and push A LOT, so it doesn't mean much.
The lower the output, the more dynamic a pickup is: this means that when you pick and strum hard, it will have the same volume or even more than a higher output one, but as your picking becomes mellower, the effect will be more noticeable since it will compress less than Aftermath/Warpig/Blackhawk etc.
It's not a big deal to me, I had great results coupling Warpig and VH2. I also have an incoming guitar with Warpig and Emerald which are completely different pickups, but I'm positive I'll make them work. You can higher/lower the pickup's height and screw poles to balance them better.

Pickup for my Carvin HH1? Since it's a 1 pickup guitar I am looking for a versatile pickup that has low output for sakes of clarity and cleanliness and can do anything from jazz tones to great distorted tones (think new protest the hero). 25.5" scale, swamp ash body/koa top, maple neck, ebony board

Connor Sullivan
It may sound redundant but Juggernaut is clearly the best choice here. Versatile, with healthy mids that ash+ebony lack, very clear and never harsh, and will tame the overkill harshness/brightness that ash+koa+maple+ebony have together. Holy Diver is another excellent one if you want a more classic voicing.

my strings always break after around three shows, do i make something wrong? i play standard b tuning, 67 cm scale and daddario bariton set 13-62 (yes, i like thick gauges). they always break at the bridge which is a hipshot. too much sweat, too strong playing technique, what would you guess?

letranger
Almost baritone scale and thick gauge means very high tension, might just be that.

Hi Francesco! JB vs Duncan Disrtion on a basswood 7 strings... any opinion? I play death metal

definitely Distortion, it's more aggressive and tighter. JB doesn't really work that well in basswood, too nasal imho.

How do you usually bring your main/stage axe outside to gigs/practice or just heading out to the streets with your guitar? Do you prefer carrying them heavy cases or a gig bag? Was wondering if i should invest in a mono gig bag as i travel quite alot locally.

I still bring my Axe around by itself with no casea but that's very risky, as soon as more frequent gigging is happening, flight case and/or bag are mandatory.

Hi, I've been playing a lot of steve vai songs but my strings keep breaking! What do you suggest for making the strings last longer?

I used to break strings in the past when I had either just crappy strings or most likely a crappy bridge, the saddles weren't high quality at all.
Lower your string tension (use 9-42) and maybe upgrade saddles, bridge or use a different guitar for those ultrawide bends.

Hey have you played GTA 5? Since I know you like to get away from guitar sometimes.

I'm not exactly a videogamer, actually not at all since I don't have any console since SNES and I use Mac. I finished Diablo 3 as of late but not much else. Internet already hinders my productivity, if I put videogames on top of it... No thanks haha :) but I'm fancying a ps4

I need your sincere opinion ! Mayones regius 7 or blackat Leon 7 ?

I think Blackats are more bang for the money.

Do you see your self replacing your favorite nailbomb/VHII combo withe the new Juggs ?

Well let me test them at least :)

Who are some bands or musicians you really respect but can't get into their music for some reason?

A couple bands I really really admire and respect for their musicianship and stage presence are Opeth and BTBAM but apart from a few tracks I was never able to appreciate them completely. Blasphemous I know! Still waiting for them to grow on me someday haha
