what are some of you favorite wood combinations for guitar and why?

Anything works for specific reasons, can't say I have a very favourite one but mahogany/korina body with maple/walnut/bubinga/koa top, maple/mahogany/rosewood set-in or bolt-on neck, and ebony/pau ferro/cocobolo/snakewood fretboard are all very good choices to be used together.
Generally speaking, I'd want the body to be lightweight, warm and resonant, "rich" sounding. The neck stiffer, "harder" sounding, more focused and of course stable. A top to add even more complex frequencies to the body and a very hard fretboard to give attack, percussiveness and firm fundamental.

Alternate or economy picking?

I much prefer strict alternate, but it depends: on our last Abio vid my arpeggio part is economy and that's the only logic way to do it

Does neck dive on guitars bother you a lot?

It's definitely a bitch but there are certain straps like the Gruv Gear DuoStrap or SoloStrap that get rid of it completely. A good guitar should be designed to be perfectly balanced when standing up though, if it's not then it's the design's fault.

what did you study in school

Went to college of science then studied architecture, left architecture to focus on graphic design, then a master in typography design.

I was joking about the fact I unfortunately have many things to do, one year of vacation would be very irrealistic to me :) but hey anti joke chicken strikes again!

How does the bolt on neck of the JP12 (and other Petrucci models) affect the upper fret access?

It doesn't affect it, higher frets are very easily reachable. Can't say the same about other bolt-ons though.

Do you still feel excitement going into guitar stores..even though none of their instruments stack up to the custom guitars you already own?

I don't own that many custom guitars, "just" three. I always find fantastic stuff at guitar stores, recently I've been tremendously impressed with the new 7 strings from Sterling and PRS.

what's your opinion on black water guitars ?

Never tried them, they look good but I'm all for originality in design so I'd prefer to see more unique looking models from them, rather than being very inspired by others.

Doug doesn't currently accept orders, and in the remote chance he accepts it, it will take a LONG TIME before the guitar will be ready

Che ne pensi dei plettri Pickboy? in particolare quelli della serie Hi Modulous,? personalmente mi piacciono molto i carbon nylon e ho ordinato quelli in Ultem/Pei che dovrebbero arrivare a giorni :-) :-)

usavo i pickboy con la foglia di maria da gggiovine, fighi ma si consumavano subito!
