are patches really that time consuming to make that people would pay money for them? or are you just a beast at making nice ones

I do spend a lot of time tweaking a patch to suit the source tone the best I can, three hours at the very least. Given the amount of time involved, I do feel it's fair to ask money for it.

How much do you charge to make axe fx patches for people francesco??

It depends on the patch itself (rhythm/lead/clean) and some other details, message me privately if interested.

Is it better to pick from the wrist or elbow? And why?

Some people use their forearm/elbow, some others their fingers, others their wrist. I personally think focusing the movement in the wrist gives better control, helps playing faster while staying relaxed.
It takes time to nail the movement though, and there are LOTS more aspects to be aware of.

Is it normal that I can't play live half the shit I record?

If you don't practice enough to be tight in a live setting, yes.

do you have any dings or blemishes on any of your guitars that you've had to learn to love?

Absolutely, my Ibbies are from '89 to '92 and they carry some signs of time, but overall they're still in pretty good conditions.

Do you think it's acceptable to sacrifice some precision and clean playing in order to deliver more stage presence? Or do you prefer being a bit more still so you can nail every note?

TheInsurgent’s Profile PhotoTheInsurgent
It's perfectly acceptable imho. If someone wants ultratight precision, that's what the album is for. Live should be about the show imho!

Would you change from the axe fx to kemper if kemper mae you an artist offer ?

I've used the Axe for a long time and would personally not feel at home using something else. Kemper is still an excellent machine though!

Do you like any type of rap music?

Absolutely! Aesop Rock above all:

Run The Jewels are also pretty legit:

Apart from that I like Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Immortal Technique and other usual suspects. Definitely not into dumb stuff like Lil Wayne and money-centered "rap", but I like some mainstream artists like Jay Z, Eminem, Lupe Fiasco, etc.

Do you teach Animals As Leaders slap technique?

I can slap/pop basic stuff, but I've never tried the thump technique Tosin does. While someday for sure I'll put some time learning it, I wouldn't personally use it for my music since it's so distinctive of his playing that it would immediately sound AAL-like.

what are good replacement soapbar size pickups for an 8 string carvin?

You can order Carvin 8s with passive routes, it's not listed but you can request it :)

josei -What recording gear do you recommend for a guitarist with very little knowledge on how to record guitars and drum tracks if there going Solo?

Get an M-Audio Fast Track interface or if your budget permits a Scarlett 2i2, use Reaper as your DAW, buy EZ Drummer and x50 2.0 (guitar plugin) and you should be good to go!

I read that you also do some music production works, where can i hear your work? Any link?

Until now writing/recording/producing my band's album and teaching has been the priority, but apart from that I also do "production work" for other bands. I haven't mixed official releases yet, but I've done guitar reamping for various bands, here's a recent one I did (they also recorded guitars at my studio):

I also recently helped Polyphia creating rhythm and lead guitar tones for their latest release '87' which you can listen here:

Lemme ask you a stupid one: In your opinion, who is more superior in playing and technique-wise: Wes Hauch, Michael Keene or Misha Mansoor?

Wes Hauch has a cleaner and more refined technique than the others you mention. They're all excellent though!

I really want to learn theory and how to read music. I know some of the basics but how should I go about starting?

Scott Williams
The best would be to apply theory, starting by small snd simple pieces of it, within a musical context, and then bring those concepts further and expand the correlation between theory and music.
Honestly this is hard to do if you don't have someone guiding you step by step. Invest in a good teacher!

What are your go-to Axe FX cabs when crafting particular tones?

It really depends on the source tone and the purpose, also with all the recent UltraRes cabs I definitely need to check more before having a list of "go-to" ones :)

Do you think a guitar with a mahogony body and maple top, and a 5 piece next made of rosewood and ebony filets would be a good guitar for metal or for you? why or why not? thanks so much and you're the best for answering these!

I'd say "yes these are woods I love" but still too general. I don't know the pickups, fretboard, scale, wood origin and quality, manufacturer, etc. Lots of stuff goes into how a guitar sounds, way more than woods.

i know you like positive grid jamup pro , you have spoken about it so many times , but just want to ask , if i want to get a good pro recording sound is it a best tool ?

Professional recordings nowadays are made with real amps, Axe-Fx, Kemper. Under that there are Pod HDs etc. Depends on your budget and "how much pro" you're aiming for.

Have you ever honestly felt a sudent of yours exceed you in a sense? If so, how did you teach him?

Never happened, but that would be awkward haha :)

if i want to become your student, would you recommend i learn theory?

Depends what you want to do, which stuff you want to improve in, what are your weak points, etc :)

Of all the students you teach do any of them have serious potential?

Fuck yes! This is Giovanni Goffredo, one of my "in person" students. He needs to refine some techniques and get better with organizing his ideas, but he's got superior taste and phrasing. http://youtu.be/XgzJPA4tjDQFrancescoFiligoi’s Video 109965644372 XgzJPA4tjDQFrancescoFiligoi’s Video 109965644372 XgzJPA4tjDQ
Also there are certain students that blow my mind, they learn so fast...there's this guy, Francis Norton, who plays my most technical riffs at full speed and he's only playing since two years.
In the end though I'm not focusing on their overall level etc, I just want each student to get consistently better lesson after lesson, and that's what makes me proud as a teacher.
