HELLO MR. FRANCESCO I AM BIG FAN YOUR GUITAR ON YOUTUBE !!! GREETING FROM JAPAN ^_^ !!!!!

Thanks man, much appreciated :D

have you ever perfected a patch, only to realize it sounded like shit a day later?

happens sometimes! I just prefer to start from scratch and with fresh ears :)

does your student have to speak english

Either english or italian, yes. If you don't speak english I'd need to record custom videos for you in which I explain the stuff and you just have to watch them, but it costs a bit more :)

how do you go about using two amps with the axe? any pointers? I love the chord clarity and midrange of the Recto1 red mdrn and the low end of the PVH 6160 any tips for combing them? thanks!

I usually try to achieve the best sounding preset with just one amp and cab, then try to experiment with more amps or cabs and if the result sounds better than one amp by itself, I might just go with it :) takes much more time to tweak two amps together though, so I don't do it often.

In layman's terms, what exactly makes a "high output" pickup? (An example from a song would help a ton as well.)

Basically, the higher the pickup's output, the easier it is for the amp to saturate and be driven to high-gain. Generally speaking, with a high output pickup you might perceive more bass, wet-ness in the notes, chugs fill more. Too much output and you might lose note definition.
No song examples can be given since you can re-balance the pickup's high output with less gain on the amp, or just lower the pickup height to lower its output as well.
It's always a fine balance between the signal you send to the amp, and how the amp itself processes it. Hopefully it clarifies the subject a little :)

Have you been speaking English for most of your life?

No, just learnt at school and then played tons of videogames/watched a lot of TV series in the original language :) always lived here in Italy.

At what point do you start a new plectrum? I think I use the same picks as you, the dunlop T3 greens, just i find they go blunt fast and i use so many

Definitely agree with you, actually I've started using normal Tortexes because they already have a little rounder tip and don't depend that much on the pointiness of the tip for their sound.
I still prefer TIII though for recording, usually if I have to record an album/EP that means one pick every song.

Ciao! Potresti consigliarmi qualche app (per iphone, ios 7) di EarTraining? Non importa se è a pagamento. Grazie mille!

Cercherei esattamente "ear training" sull'app store, ne trovi un bel po'!

I have a bit of a problem. I like to pick somewhat hard but not overbearingly hard. I can do slower to mid speed runs but when I try to some fast runs I tense up and start to be inconsistent with my strokes I've tried slowly speeding up on the metronome but I still start to tense up. Same w/rhythm

It's a common problem definitely - the solution is to properly isolate the wrist from the forearm, and do selected exercises to know when you should relax and when it's time to dig in with your picking hand. It's not easy to describe in some words though, for more infos read FAQ #2.

Is it possible to cleanly play a distorted electric guitar (about as distorted as your rhythm sound) in the same way that you would an acoustic by strumming open chords w no muting? Or is your only option to reduce the gain to more of a crunch to get less noisyness and more clarity?

I still remember the day when, after playing just my acoustic for months, I decided to go to the store and buy me an electric. I plugged this Squier to a random distorted combo and started strumming, EW.
Distorted electric guitars definitely need to be played much differently than acoustic/classical guitars :) You can do full 6/7/8 string chords from time to time but that doesn't mean you should continuously strum with distortion, that would be very very noisy.

Which level of students do you feel like you can teach the most effectively?

All levels, as long as they have the drive and will to challenge themselves, and improve lesson after lesson. Luckily for me, they're all very determined and passionate about their instrument :)

Man do you think practicing one day legato, one day sweep picking, one songwriting and so on is and organized way of praticing?

No, I would personally just stick with one subject or technique until I feel at least decent with it, and then switch to something else. But that's just me, do whatever works :)

Do you think learning solos/riffs is good to boost your technique?

Only if you're already comfortable with that technique. There are certain repetitive, basic motions to be done over and over before attempting something possibly more various and complex like a solo.

Maybe us (the askers) should focus more on technique and composition rather than pickup choice. Yes? :)

Whatever you feel you struggle with or needs help, regardless of subject :)

what religion do you follow? your name sounds like your a roman catholic. if its personal you can ignore it :)

what is this religion thing they talk about.....you mean relidj0nt?
I believe in what my eyes see. Or Satan, depending on the day. Anyone is free to believe what they want, as long as they don't:
- judge other people's beliefs
- force others to share their views
ps: I'm italian, and like me there are a zillion people named Francesco here :)

Ciao! mi puoi consigliare un'ampli valvolare a basso wattaggio e ad un buon prezzo per suonare in casa? Suono metal.Grazie :D

Dark Terror!

When tracking cleans, do you use the axe fx effects? Or do you ad effects later in your daw??

When recording cleans I don't care too much about the tone I'm using since I'll just reamp it later. I like the Axe-Fx delays/reverbs/effects therefore the final clean tone will be 99% Axe-Fx most of the time.

Francesco what do you think of Dimarzio Evolution? I've listened that Vai purpose was to use them as "Live Sound" and not for the recording, at first... Cheers

Good pickup, but a bit too hot for my taste and has tons of high-mids/presence, resembles the 81 a bit.

Hey Francesco, every tried any of BK's P90 pickups? Or the humbucker sized P90s? If so, what'd you think? And keep writing awesome music, fucking amazing!!!!!

Both their classic P90s and humbucker sized P90s are glorious, I love 'em!
