what kind of headphones you recommend for pod hd 500?

I find playing with headphones really weird and awful but to each his own :) look into Audio Technica ATH-M50.

I know youre advice will be respectable and very trustworthy, and with that statement i ask this; I've been playing a 6 string for about 5 years, and i wan to move on to a 7 string. What would you reccomend as a first 7 string as much as, or less than $1,000?

ThallPls’s Profile PhotoHunter Costello
I'd say find a used Carvin 7 on the internet, that would be the best deal I can think of. Hell, even a basic spec new Carvin 7 is under 1k$.

Francesco, I'm trying to get a similar sound to the rythm tone from Wintersun with a Pod, I don't wanna take too much time, but if you have any tips to use the Parametric eq or anything, would be really nice :) thanks <3

Generally speaking: what you hear on a record is guitar mixed with tons of other stuff, making you perceive it differently than what it sounds isolated, plus the performance and songs themselves can trick you in thinking the tone is better than what it actually is (I love Wintersun btw). I don't think parametric eq will help you, nor a Pod to be honest.
I'd say if you want to get a little bit closer, EMG 81 will definitely help since that's what Jari uses to record, and live they use Axe Fx. If you stick with the Pod, a Mesa Recto sim would be better than others for this purpose.

I'm debating which pickups to put in my Ibanez LACS RG. It has a basswood body, with a maple neck w/ bubinga stripe and a rosewood fretboard. The scale length is 27". I mainly play metal but I want a versatile yet musical set of Bareknuckles. I'm debating between b-hawks, c-bomb/vhii, and juggs sets

I'd say C-Bomb and VHII would sound godly in it. Juggs can definitely be a good alternative, Jugg bridge will be more mid-prominent and smoother on the high end.

How did you improved your alternate picking? Started with one string then 2 string and then multiple strings exercises and masterized them? What technique do you use often to play arpeggios ?

All techniques can be used to play arpeggios: hybrid picking, sweep picking, alternate picking, legato/slide, string skipping, tapping. As of late I'm using "swybrid" a lot.
Regarding alternate picking: there are some crucial exercises, from basic to medium, that need to be mastered in order to play more complex stuff. For sure don't start playing scales up and down all 6 strings if you wanna be faster at alternate, it's not something I'd recommend at all.

Hi Francesco! What's a good start for a home studio? (Everything from monitors to pre-amps to software, etc.) I've seen you have recommended Adam A5X monitors and of course the Axe FX 2, but I would like to know what else I need for high quality recordings.. Any personal preferences?

Already answered quite some times, scroll down and good luck :D

Hey! I own a Boss GT-10 atm. I have now got a very good tone with it, altough not as good as I want it to be. I want a Born of Osiris tone as in your videos where you play the Machine solo, what do I need? Reverb, delay?? Any tips whatsoever to get that tone. :)

For a good lead sound I generally apply parallel reverb and delay after everything, a bit of compression before everything, and maybe even an overdrive in front of the amp block. A good cab with full mids and not too scooped or harsh can work wonders, something Orange or Marshall-like.
What you hear on my BOO solo video is mainly string noise/hands though, so definitely work on your finger tone/technique to achieve better tone, it's the most important thing.

So if I have a multi scale guitar (agile 27/24.75 scale) can I get BKPs? The pickups in my guitar are slanted Cepheus pickups. If I can, what would you recommend for a mahogany/flamed maple body/maple neck? (I play Northlane,Sworn in kind of stuff). Thank you :)

Not sure if you can, BKP only provides 10 degrees slanted pickups. One solution could be you sending the Cepheus pickups to BKP to rewind them :)

What power amp would you recommend for my axe-fx II? Not sure if I should go solid state or tube power amp, what you think about the matrix power amp?

I think you should go with Matrix, it's basically the standard being used nowadays. I expecially like the 1000.

How would you compare your koa jp7 and the b7 tonally? What difference does the rosewood neck make with the mahogany body?

It's not just a wood making the whole difference, they're really two entirely different beasts. They both sound warm but different, it's hard to describe. The B7 has a huge, monstrous midrange, JP7 is more balanced but still on the warmer side of things.

hey Francesco i know you've answered tons of times for this before for bedroom practicing/recording via axe fx 2(not too loud) which studio monitors do you recommend?(not too pricey) thanks!!

KRK RP5 third gen, or if the budget is a bit higher Adam A5X :)

What think about Rg8bk in relation of price-quality? : )

You always get what you pay for, don't expect miracles :) it's ok for the money.

Do you read scores? Are they useful for you?

I can identify notes on a score but not more than that, I personally have no use for it.

can you tell us your top 5 movies of 2013?

I haven't watched many, but for sure I enjoyed The Place Beyond The Pines and Pacific Rim a lot, for completely different reasons haha :)

What scales /arpeggios are used most to create jazzy-bluesy licks?

When you hear stuff and you're like "whoa...what was that!" it's not much about WHAT scales are being played but HOW they are played. The discussion could be endless, but as a general rule I'd say study the guitarists you like that play those kinda licks, and see if there's some "common ground" between them :)

any new guitars you are looking forward to seeing released at Namm? Also do you know when the 2014 ibanez catalog comes out?

Carvin DC7X, Majesty

What sort of stuff did you practice when you were younger to be at the level you are now?

I was playing a lot, but spent way more time just noodling around, riffing or playing Slayer/Metallica songs rather than actual practice. I surely did practise though, but not like "ok let's do two hours today, two hours tomorrow, every day, go always with metronome etc.", just whenever I felt it.
I believe the biggest difference is practising the RIGHT exercises, don't try more complicated stuff but start from the very basics, until you master them.

(not a sympathy grab) I have been recently diagnosed with a visual disability, although i am primarily a auditory learner, i don't feel my ear and transcribing skills are what they should be. Are there any programs/ material you know of that could help me develop my ear? to slow down tracks?

Ear training might help, google it!

are there any guitars you thought of maybe selling? btw you have quite a nice collection!

Thanks! No although offers are always welcome, you never know :)
